nbn Connection Fees - Charged for Two Different Types

Hi all, hoping someone could please explain the new connection fees associated with NBN. I've just purchased a new townhouse and was expecting a $300 New Development Connection fee. I've been hit with two fees though, a $400 Multi Dwelling Fee AND the $300 fee. Does anyone know if this is right? $700 to get a connection seems a bit excessive. I have to pay $400 even if I don't want NBN. Cheers!

It does come under the Developer contributions charge

    https://www.nbnco.com.au/develop-or-plan-with-the-nbn/new-de…

    • is that borne by developer / builder ?

  • $700 to get a connection seems a bit excessive.

How far is the pit from your power box and what type of connection is available at your location?

    • Sorry - lost on terminology. Power box? The NBN pit is literally at the garage door. So about 1m from where the NBN box will go (being installed tomorrow - he did a cable pull yesterday)

      • Power box = power meter.

What did NBN Co say when you asked them?

    • Haven't had contact with them, only NBN provider and developer

  • $300 new developments charge is right. $400 developer contribution charge for MDU is to be paid for by the developer or builder.

    Did you get FTTP?

    • Yeh FTTP. Seems the developer has just passed the fee onto us. So we're paying both

      • There not meant to. The policy clearly states..

Developers are required to contribute to the cost of providing phone and internet infrastructure
This is a flat rate charge applied only to developers and builders for

At least you have FTTP :-)

        • Friggin contract states we need to pay adjustments for all utility connections. Does NBN realise these fees are usually passed down to the end user anyway?

    • SHOULD be paid by the developer. But often they don’t and when the new owner tries to connect up, they get stung

The landlord have right to say no to the nbn installation.

    • In new developments all equipment is installed. You don't have to order a service.

      • In new developments all equipment is installed.

The LIC provided by the builder/developer for single dwelling units can only go as far the PL. The occupant have to sign up with a RSP to get NBN to install a LIC from the pit to the PL.

there are some would kill to pay $700 for a fttp connection

    • Going off Whirlpool - Seems to be minimum $6000 to as high as $25000 for majority of FTTN to FTTP installs at the moment. Crazy expensive.
