Usual caveats. Online only direct sale, house brands bulk wine supplier. Not real vineyards.
RRP meaningless since these are never seen in retail shops.
    Deceptive & misleading.

Georges Exile does retail at one small SA chain, but $15, not $50. Seems a bit of a fake RRP to me.

        Please do inform us.

        • Different wine. That is George's entry level wine. If you are going to rubbish something, perhaps do the correct research. https://georgeswines.com/product/2015-georges-the-exile-shir… As for the Lone Palm from BTP Vintners, just because they primarily make their wine for export, does not make them "not real wine." Winemakers purchase fruit from feeder vineyards instead of just using their own estate grown fruit. Because that fruit "doesn't come from a real winery" does that mean that that isn't "real wine" either? In that case, someone should tell Penfolds as they buy a lot of the fruit for Grange from such vineyards. If you'd like a comprehensive run down on the particular vineyards that all these wines come from, I'll be more than happy to educate you :)

I’m not familiar with most of the wines but yes, we had George’s Exile a couple of nights ago. Bought from skye and from memory, about $15 (and great value)

          • @roonie: The Georges is a cracker. I had a bottle last night, it was lovely. Very smooth and persistent flavour.

$35 cash back from AMEX offers (over $150) for next 2 days

    • even better!

    • All the negativity around this kind of offer is so mind boggling. It's incredible how everyone is an expert. There are many reasons suppliers offer their wine on the secondary market. They may need to make room in their warehouse for new vintages, they may have had an export order cancelled, they may be a smaller producer that wants their wine to be more identifiable by being included in a mixed pack, they may just need instant cashflow and to move a large hit of wine at once. That doesn't mean the wine is crap. I'll clarify for you, the wine is great. I've tried each of them. I may not purchase them at their RRP but isn't it lovely that you don't have to. If you want to pay the RRP or close to because you are cagey on the quality, then go for it. You are not aware of exactly how we decide what wines we stock. We get send thousands of samples of wines that come from large producers, small producers, export labels, anything and everything. We get together as a tasting panel, decide if the wine is good or not and if it is, we will stock it and offer as much discount as we are able. It is sometimes a lot, which is great, it is sometimes a smaller amount, which is not AS great, but still pretty good. If you only want to buy things with 95pts from Halliday, that is fine, but don't judge a wine that you haven't tried and say "its RRP is Bullshit" or "There is something wrong with it" if you have absolutely no reason to think that. Rant over

you're certainly entitled to your opinion. Plenty of people take up the offer without upvoting it, which is why I continue to offer great specials, even if it falls on a few deaf ears that want to come up with theories of "lying" about discounts. The fact of the matter is, the wines offered are AMAZING value at $16.60 a bottle, regardless of what RRP is fictional or exaggerated. Anyone can say anything they like through the anonymity of a public forum. You did not ask any question "Jack Soffalot" you made conjecture which i took upon myself to respond to. You got a detailed response in reply. I'm sorry if you think it is woeful and I'm "blowing my stack" not the case at all, just making sure people are well informed so there is no need for assumptions and accusations :)

@User344505: Absolute nonsense. Wineries set their RRP and we rely on them to provide us that info. If you don't like it, sorry. But your nonsense accusations of being unlawful are ridiculous. I'm not arguing with Homer Simpson with a childish joke name on a forum anymore. Have an amazing evening "Jack"

I bought my first wine pack from wines direct for Christmas break last year and bought a number of the wine packs since. Yes I agree that the "RRP" is exaggerated but I still feel that you are getting a bargain. The mixed red 12 packs I've tried average $16-$20 per bottle (always a mix of RRPs within the pack). While I would never pay the quoted RRP for $100-$150, I would easily spend $35-$50 for an equivalent tasting bottle in Dan Murphy's. The cheaper RRPs also stand up to being worth at least $20 per bottle. Stand outs for me are the Curtis and Martins Vineyard wines. I used to buy from Vinomofo black market every now and then but found the quality go down a bit in recent years.Just my personal experience, each to their own.

    • I'm glad you enjoyed the wines. I'm glad you understand the offers for what they are. Thanks for the kind words!

Guys, Girls, those who don't want to be identified as belonging to a gender…….

WTF!!!! Seriously I can't believe what this thread has turned into…..feels like we all have our axes out wanting to have a crack, isn't there enough hate in the world right now. Are we all a little bit on edge from being stuck in ISO for the past however long it has been. Take a chill pill, open a wine and enjoy a glass or six.

All I am going to say is that I am an extremely happy customer of Wine Direct for 5 years or so, more probably. I am NOT associated with them in any way at all.

The first time I purchased from WD, I reached out to Dan and he helped me make a purchase according to my wine tastes.
He always gives me the inside goss on the "secret sales" and what wines were behind the mystery etc. Just email him…..easy.

I couldn't be happier with the service from Dan and the quality of the wines that I get from WD, especially for the price.

I don't give two fks about the RRP and how ridiculous it might seem, almost all wine producers do it, as many other industries. WHATEVER. ever bought a car from a car yard?? rest my case….ever bought a house…..geez…yeah, this house is expected to sell for 1.2mil….pfft….2million later…GEEZ
I just look at the price I am going to pay, often there ARE reviews on Vivino, sometimes not. Then I just make a choice of will I spend that or not…..??

Not one purchase from WD has been bad and almost everything I have bought has been under $20 a bottle and the quality far surpasses the price.
Therefore, I feel like I am getting value for the money I pay for WD wines, compared to spending the same amount at DM or BWS etc.
Never once have I gone "Oh, now that's a bit of a dud OR that tastes like cheap rubbish". Always quality wines, that's why I buy from them.

Anyhow, just wanted to put that out there, I think Wine Direct is great and Dan has always been nothing short of incredible. YMMV.
Yes I am defending WD & Dan, because they have been amazing for years and years, not just a once off wonder.
