Cheers OP.
The item gives me some good ideas for improving my desktop PC setup.
can you share your ideas please
thanks
Bought, love to hear some ideas too
Would get it but dont have Prime unfortunately :( - And already used my free trial.
Make a new account.
Thx OP got one. Now I can finally arrange my pc cables haha
Not powered so no good for hard drives :(
Important to remember this, guys.
On the other hand though, you'll probably be fine if your external HDD is powered itself.Should be okay to power one portable 2.5” HDD shouldn’t it?
Yes typically these new USB 3.0 are quite good.
Can you elaborate what this means? I have a fairly cheap USB port and I always have issues with portable HDD on it, randomly disconnecting or not showing up sometimes. They work completely fine when plugged directly into the laptop. I always just thought it's a problem with cheap USB ports and was going to buy something more reputable like this one
yes - you need this - if you have an existing hub which is faulty and the direct ports on the laptop work fine then get this and it should fix your issues. plus Anker is a good brand - ex-google engineers.
Or the port isn’t supplying enough power to the portable HD. Does the USB port work well with flash drives or mice?
My laptop usb port works well with anything
But once I plug a USB hub in (4 ports), I can only reliably use 1 external HDD with the hub, adding a second one and it always disconnects.@poormansbackpack: Sounds like it’s not delivering enough power. This hub won’t help.
your pc/laptop also has hard usb spec limits on what you can daisy chain off a single port.
In short: it's not recommended to daisy chain anything off USB 1-2-3. Windows OS has hard data allocation limits, that is not hub-related. It's actually an architecture shortfall.
in future: USB4 will unleash either end of this year or next year and will be better than thunderbolt 3 daisy-chaining; but you'll have to update all your hardware/portable drives/hubs/switches.
I'm personally holding out for USB4 before I update my old usb 3.0 gear. Don't get me started on Usb 3.1 (gen 1, gen 2), 3.2 (gen 2) … LOL it's so convoluted.
Ah that probably explains why when I plug in 2 external HDDs onto my hub it always disconnects?
I'd consider myself somewhat tech-savvy but had no idea this limitation exists!@poormansbackpack: yeh I found out the hard way as well when I tried to create a pseudo-sync with multiple portable drives… it's just not possible with the hard limits. This is why thunderbolt and now usb4 has a stronger selling point for power draw and daisy-chaining.
USB hubs are mainly for connecting various low-powered devices like mice, keyboards and bluetooth adapators where space is limited — hard drives just have too much power draw and usb cables limits the amount of data draw from each usb interrupt.
There's also been a kerfuffle with the quality of USB-C cables hence some Google engineers like "Benson Approved" had to create a subset of quality rules for consumers against those cables and their hardware counterparts (many of which were dodgy and being sold without certification from USB-IF). USB-IF has been all over the place. Hopefully USB4 will be the true USB-spec moving forward.
you are probably using all your ports…some USB hubs cant handle so many external dongles and external HDDs. Dumb i know. I have a 4-usb hub that has an external HDD, Logitech Unifying & 2 USB cords that are used to charge my Mouse and keyboard (when required) and all work fine…
to make it more complex, i have the hub connected to a USB extender which connects to the USB outlet on my monitor which is then fed back to my MBP via a USB-C hub
Yeah I run into problems when I plug two external HDD on my hub, it works perfectly fine with just one
From website:
Power Usage:
This USB hub does not support charging.
For a stable connection, avoid connecting devices that exceed a total of 900 mA. Devices are usually rated as follows:
Mouse 100 mA
USB Flash Drive 100 mA
Camera 300 mA
Keyboard 500 mA
External Hard Drive 900 mA
Does this work with PS4?
Any suggestions of the hub like this that support charging aswell?
Thanks OP - ordered one!
Good price, and anker products are always good quality, bought one.
is this the same but with a shorter cable? If so, your deal is a good price!

aaaaaaaaaand it's Surged
Still available. Just change the seller
It's $12.99 again.
These are nice but ideally I'd like one that has a card reader built into it also
Thanks OP! Should be handy to add an extra flash drive or two and possibly external SSD on my music production machine. We'll find out.
Back in stock
still working
Still in stock! grabbed one cheers OP
100+ votes! I wonder why it's so popular, given it's almost a 'legacy' product by now and the discount is less than 20% and less than $3?
I was tempted to pull the trigger given the number of votes, but then I realise I don't have any immediate need for it and it would be likely just sitting in the drawer collecting dust. And if I ever need such a hub it'd be ok to pay the extra $2.xx for the item.
Am I not an Ozbargainer?
I'm in the same boat, but I still pulled the trigger.
a 19% discount is pretty good, especially if you have prime.
I actually had it in my cart last week for $19.99 but didn't check out - on Friday I noticed it went down to $12.99 so grabbed it immediately. Anker is a reliable brand and that price is on par with the cheapest one available at Officeworks.
ok bought
no actually i missed it lol
I've had one of these for about 12 months. Very good. No disconnections compared with previous USB hub, which likely needed to be powered. Can slowly charge tablet from it's ports but not recommended. Have not tried portable HDD.
links me to Amazon US, had to click other sellers for the AU deal.
Thanks OP
Noob question - (I have already bought it) can I connect this to my monitor and then connect my keyboard and mouse to it? Also charging my phone through it? Thx
your monitor will most likely need a male-to-male USB cable from your monitor to your computer/laptop, which will power the rest of the usb ports in your monitor. As long as you have that you should be able to connect this to your monitor.
yep I actually just figured out yesterday lol..Spent 30mins trying to figure out how come the monitor's usb port is not recognising usb connections! Thank you!
Did the Prime shipping change on this since being posted?
FREE international delivery on Prime international orders over $49
No more free delivery on Prime unless it's >$49
Nevermind, the one OP linked is not the $12.99 one.
Find it here: https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/offer-listing/B07L32B9C2/ref=dp…
wish it had an sd card reader
Thanks OP, got one.
