Bing Lee Price Match Policy in Online Chat

I`ve had an interesting experience today.

I have approached Bing Lee rep on a Live Chat feature they have on their website, asking if they would be willing to price match and beat BES920, as offered on David Jones website (https://www.davidjones.com/bes920-the-dual-boiler-20484183).
In return, after waiting 20min in a queue of 2(!), I have been received a spam on chat start like "Hello, how can I help" -> "Unfortunately we do not match deals, only go off RRP as per our price match policy" -> "Is there anything else I can help you with", all in under 5 seconds. To my question about the paragraph of the policy which states they don`t match deals, he quoted point 2d:

2.The product offered by the Competitor must be:
(d) not offered as part of a bundled or bonus offering at the time of price matching;

I may not be a lawyer, but I see no mention of RRP in there.
Has anyone had similar experience with Bing Lee reps online?

I just don`t understand how can they claim they can price match, if they do refuse to even match (without beating it) the price a competitor makes, since they can always claim that it is not a RRP base.

What did live chat say when you ask them?

    • Um, exactly what I wrote above. Afterwards, it was just a repeated barrage of "We don`t price match deals by competitors", even when I pointed out paragraph 2d of their policy does not sound like what he makes it out to be.

      • Ask for a supervisor or call them directly

  • Go elsewhere. Try BillyGuyatts FB community posts for someone to call you. First check they have item though. Most of the time they say below cost can't help you. It's my understanding they still have their on discretion as to whether it's a sale for them or not. Why would I sell you an item cheaper than I can buy it for.

    • Ozbargain history shows this items periodically goes on sale for anything between $671 - $899. RRP of $1899 is a joke.

  • I've had them price match JB specials multiple times in person without any issues. They just go on to the competitors website to check the price and that it's in stock at the closest store.

You're much more likely to get success talking to a salesperson instore. I would expect that the chat is considered part of customer service so are probably not incentivised by individual sales.

That sale could be the difference between them getting commission or not. A salesperson in store will have a target to reach and if they want to do it, will have a supervisor they can check with.

Alternatively just buy from David Jones.
I can understand price matching a local store if it's convenient, but I don't understand complaining about a store that won't, when you already have a store that's willing to (Particularly when DJs do free delivery on it).

Give the original store your business otherwise they may not be around in the future to pricematch to.

  • As mentioned by some others above, live chat is more of a customer service and existing orders support method of contact. Best to go in store or phone up. Don’t see how they would price match it online either.
