Shortest Lease Estate Agent Would Likely Take?

Hey home owners!

Looking to put in an application for a new place, okish studio in Melbourne.
Through a reputable estate agent and all legit.

Would asking for a 3 month lease be likely to go through? Or is a 6 months lease still like the 'bare minimum'?

I’m guessing it’s a apartment on the CBD, and there’s a heap of empty apartments in the CBD, so I would likely seriously consider it (as a landlord)

    • Appreciated, its inner west actually. CBD far too noisy for me

I actually saw a 6 week lease in Pascoe vale at $250 a week if that works - https://www.realestate.com.au/property-house-vic-pascoe+vale…

  • "Likely"? Six months.

    "Possible"? Try your luck.

Would asking for a 3 month lease be likely to go through?

Who knows, one way to find out. Ask them and see what they say!

Is it 3 months and you'll be moving out or you just want a short lease while looking for something else?

If moving out quickly, you could put in a offer higher than the asking rent to seal the deal. But there is a huge amount of empty units around, I wouldn't think you will need to. Any landlord ATM would be silly not to jump on ANY lease.

    • Always looking, but this place ticks more boxes than the usual meh

      • Always looking

Ugh who has the energy to keep packing up and moving home every few months. Not me, but if it works for you then good on it.

Ask the agent, see what they say then.

I think at the moment, there are some optimistic ex-AirBnB owners that wouldn't mind a short-term lease, so they could exit you out once visitors return on higher rates. Try your luck!
