Looking around at a cheap gaming laptop and stumbled across this for Clickfrenzy. Seems like a solid price for something with a 9th gen quad core and GTX 1650.

  • i bought a dell with almost the same specs for 900$ last year. no deal.

What model? I can't find anything remotely close to that with Dell at the moment. Closest I can find looks to be something like the G3, which is $1700

      • inspiron 15-7000 gaming.

The dell g3 3590 with i5 and 1650 with 512gb was $900 a couple months back. I bought it too. Great computer but I sold it for profit as I got a desktop. Doubt we will see those prices again for a while. It was advertised with 256gb but they sent out 512gb to everyone.

        • Damn it, that's exactly the deal I'm trying to find now.

    • +8

Did you buy a time travel machine too?

interesting this one has been negged, but a comment asking for the model got upvoted. I don't understand the mechanics of ozbargain.

      • +2

I didn't neg you, but I think the general logic is that it doesn't matter what the prices were a year ago because you can't get that deal if you're looking right now.

I didn't need a laptop 12 months ago, but I need one today. What the price was last year doesn't help me much.

Don't… buying anything Lenovo is like using a hooker you know has herpes. They cut any corner they can to save a dollar. They used to have a good name, now it's just cheap garbage!

    • thank you, sir.

    • Yes, agreed, after the first year of ownership the product quality starts falling apart, this company pay their keyboard warrior to spread the good word about their products.

      • My bad it comes with a backlit keyboard and heaps of IO options. It is a bargain. If ppl are complaining about RMA you should see Apples RMA policy. Its all about getting more money from u.

        • +4

I dunno man. I have had a few problems with Apple products in the past but they are always amazing with support. I’ve had things replaced on the spot multiple times.

          • @blergmonkeys: I have dealt with both Apple and Lenovo support hundreds of times for work. In my experience Lenovo products are significantly more reliable and they have much better support.

    • +22

I have nothing but praise for Lenovo Thinkpads, have seen them deployed widely on a corporate level and they had very low RMA rates. Have not had the same confidence inspired in me from any other Windows laptop.

      • +7

No comparison between Lenovo's consumer cheap stuff and business grade Thinkpads though.

      • +4

Most workplaces are using Lenovo T or X series.

The most popular thinkpads being posted on Ozbargain are consumer level E-series which are generally less robust than corporate models. The L Series is kind of in-between E and T series.

        • Yeah I've an old i7 X220 and used heaps of T420's from work and they're all 100%.
However, yeah, they're business grade ones so probably different kettle of fish.

I don't think the consumer ones are quite as flakey as being mentioned here though… but obviously not up to the same quality as a Dell.

        • X1 mostly.

Are we talking about Lenovo or Apple here? All i know is I brought a Lenovo Yoga a 2 years ago and still holds up well to this day. My Macbook from 2017 is slow playing games. But i read how Macs were advertising the butterfly keyboards and selling them for 5k. Only for ppl to have issues with dirt getting between the switches.
All i can say about this deal is it is a good price. I haven't used it so i cannot write a review. Generally, these cheaper laptops with a GPU are missing out on a feature ie no backlit keyboard and cheap trackpad. I have external HID devices anyway. Good price for the power.

      • Yes I still have a yoga 2 Pro from 2014, and they are pretty nice machines. Feels a bit slow these days compared to my older i5 desktop but almost not worth replacing.

An X1 carbon would be nice, could probably live without the touch screen for fingerprints. The battery life is pretty average now and one of the USB ports send unreliable. Had that screen flicker problem that's back after a windows install, may do again from an ISO file.

If I updated I think I'd want USB C of and Thunderbolt etc, and 16gb. The display is nice, so would prob go for a 4k model but fhd battery life is a lot better.

I've had no issues with my Legion laptop from Lenovo. Also their think pads are highly regarded. Coming from 2 Dells, now there's one company I'll never buy from again.

    • So I assume Asus gaming laptops are better the ROG range at this price point?

      • Yeah I'd get an Asus laptop any day over this crap.

    • +1

Just buy a XPS15 way better

    • You wouldn't be able to recall which corner said hooker works on, would you? Asking for a friend

    • Agreed. They tried to take the cloak of IBM but we all know they're not IBM.

  • +4

I have this model and its ok for light gaming. Nothing new or AAA plays nicely on this but if the game is a few years old, its not bad.

However its battery life is TERRIBLE! Like 1.5 to 2 hours tops. The power adapter is a brick as well.

I did buy this about this time last year and it was $1200 and came with the Jedi AR and a spare power adapter.

  • Waiting for another cashrewards promo with TA for the E14

  • looking for a gaming laptop at the moment, but looking at these I think I'll go with the more expensive, but mote powerful eluktronics RP-15.

    • Looks US only - how do you plan to get one?

      • It looked like it was working at this link https://www.eluktronics.com/RP-15/

I got to the checkout n discovered they were hiding Tax $347.97 AUD and delivery was $241.68 AUD, taking the build I wanted to over 3K, my budget was originally 2k, but was happy to pay up to $500 more for something I liked, but an extra 1.1K is too much … so decided to pass

I want to purchase a laptop in the next few weeks… will now do some research on this to compare it to the G14(the original front runner)

the main thing I want to make sure is the screen is color accurate and it has enough power to do some light video editing.

Are you sure you need a laptop? I made the mistake of buying a gaming laptop and the throttling was horrendous (dell g3). Or maybe wait for the new Ryzen laptops as they seem to run much cooler. Maybe a desktop and cheap laptop? You can also then get a decent monitor.

          • @blergmonkeys: I've considered getting a desktop(as I have a decent monitor)… Main reason I wanted a laptop was portability… But with the world the way it is right now I ain't be doing much travel anytime soon… Maybe get one of those $1200 ryzen 5 setups n double RAM

  • Interesting price for this model. I think I saw it cheaper. Got my one custom built by calling in. Have a 16GB, 512 SSD and 2 chargers version for around 1500 at the time.

Interesting to know the price I can sell it for now that I am working from home and have a desktop pc.

Edit, it is also the 9750H version.

  • As other have said BIG gap between consumer and commercial grade laptops and 2 in 1s

My wife swears by her Carbon X1 and has never given an issue

My son's Yoga 530 is a bucket of shite.

Cheap Realtek wireless which kept dropping off the network here and at school. Complained bitterly about it but they did nothing.
Stopped working 2 months within warranty expiry (phew).
Sent back to Lenovo took over a month. Asked them to install Intel card instead while it was there and I would pay for it. They didn't do that.
When they sent their feedback form I ripped them a new one about repair time and wifi still dropping off.
Sent back to Lenovo again - they replaced card. Never dropped off WiFi again.
Now, 4 months out of warranty - the fingerprint reader has stopped working, as has the power button. My son has to fire it up with a paperclip now.

Bucket of pus - I will never buy the consumer grade Lenovo again.

    • Just because its out of warranty means nothing. You can still exercise your rights under the Australian Consumer Law. Just might be slightly difficult if Lenovo is operating out of Australia.

    • Agreed with nedski, worth pushing for a repair under Australian Consumer Law schedule 2, part 5-4 remedies relating to guarantees

      • +1

I understand what you are both saying - but ACL is not the point I was trying to make here. As others have said consumer grade Lenovo just isn't good.

I'd rather people know about the Lenovo consumer grade stuff issues so they can vote with their dollars.

The internet is full of issues. Circly below even had an issue with a C940 after just a few days by the looks. The QC just isn't what it used to be or they're cutting too many corners.

I've just written an email to Lenovo to see whether they'll do anything. I MAY consider going ACCC but from memory when I had to do that 5 years or so ago it was a bigger nightmare to actually go through the process than it was to walk into JB and just buy a new device.

        Thanks for your input though.

  • Great price nowadays

Girlfriends Yoga C940 (over $3000) turned off during netflix after a couple days of owning and wouldnt turn on again. Returned at Harvey Norman and got a Macbook instead lol.

  • basically im looking for a gaming/laptop i can travel and do work on, i only really play LoL and DBD, ive seen good reviews for the L340, thoughts?

  • +1

Personally, I would never again buy a Lenovo.
Bought a couple of Yoga 3 Pro few years ago, and had lots of problems with them hanging if you moved the laptops.

HP Laptops, Dell, Asus, Microsoft Surface and Surface Book have all been trouble free.
Esp. love the HP, and MS Surface Book is a close second.

Note: This is my personal preference and posted with bona fide intentions to share my experience and assist people make a decision for not so insignificant purchase.
