    Organic, Free Range Beef

as opposed to Synthetic beef ?

    $216 Value!

    ummmm… i don't think portehouse really costs $40 per kilo… chicken thighs, $30 per kilo ????????

this deal is probably closer to $89 for $100 value…

    • Yeah, crazy RRP prices……..$30 for a 2.2KG organic free range chicken? Cost about half that at coles from their organic range.

It's Scoopon. You should expect to be disappointed if you believe you're getting the value they advertise for anything.

    I prefer my cows caged

    2kg porterhouse is ~$30 (Vicmarket $12/kg)
2x whole chooks ~$15 (depends on size, assume medium)
2.6kg of chook arms & legs ~ $15 (being very generous here they're around $5/kg)
    1kg thigh ~$10

    total ~$70

well i find free range/organic to be tastier… you're not comparing like with like.

      • +1

No I am comparing "organic" chicken (which doesn't really mean much, they're all fed on cornmeal)
I bet in a double blind taste test, you couldn't tell the difference.

I'm not neg'ing the deal, but just noting that the price isn't a bargain and certainly not when buying in bulk.

you're not comparing like with like.

you can get free/range organic for have these quoted prices

      • brb placebo effect

    • I dont want to buy mad cows, i like em well mannered and caged… lols

If you buy chicken directly from one of the largest suppliers e.g. Baidia, Steggles, Lillydale etc. I found them alot more cheaper than this.
I used to buy organic chicken for around $4-5 and on some days for only $2-3 each. They have all kinds of varieties you wont find in the supper markets.

I dont think this is a real bargain.

where can you buy directly from these suppliers?

        • yea how?

        • Baida has factory outlets in NSW, VIC and WA.
          http://www.baiada.com.au/aboutus/factoryoutlets.html

They usually open at 6am and close by 2pm. Usually restaurants and other retailers buy from them. They often have many items on clearance.

FYI Baiada owns Lillydale and Steggles.

There are other factory outlets, I think there is one called Codina and some others.

      • Yes, how to buy direct? Do you haggle? Do you have to go to their farms?

        • Check the comment posted above.

  • This is insane, if the margin between caged and free range is this huge i'd rather donate the money saved elsewhere. Especially when they're just lying.

"4.4kg of 2 Whole Organic Chickens (worth $57.15)" - Roasted free range chickens at Woolies are ~$10ea.
"1.2kg of Organic Chicken Wings (worth $9.58)" - Chicken wings are ~$3.99/kg.
"1kg of Organic Skinless Boneless Chicken Thighs (worth $28.99)" - Thighs are ~$9.99/kg

    • Free range =\= Organic

      • Never said it didn't. But what I said still stands.

  • Just as a point of reference I buy 10KG free range chicken breast @ $70 from YCC poultry (pick up).

Their is a huge difference from certified organic and run of the mill free range.

  • It's very hard being an ethical carnivore, if that's not an oxymoron. Now I read that "free range" chook in industry speak means they are allocated an area per animal smaller than the size of a tabloid page.

    • A lot of times free range chickens are just crammed into a massive barn with no space to move, as opposed to individual cages (you can google pictures of these barns).

So it's kinda like being kept in a prison shower instead of a cell.

  • Free range chicken from red lea only $14 per kg (chicken breast)and drumstick at $6 dont know about free range Cow??? new terminology for me? buy at your local market it is probably costing you half the price and you dont have to store 10KG of meats

Also, free range chicken is suppose to make the chicken killing more humane not more tasty. Seriously, it is the same genetic chicken same feeds and how do you expect it to taste different? The cause of cost difference is the space you need (real estate) to grow the chicken

I buy mine, fully harvested and force feed. Well it wont be like the duck they use for foie gras!

Free range has nothing to do with the actual butchery/killing. Its how it was raised and feed.

Would you rather your chook spends its whole life in a cage and gets injected steroids or would you rather its running around in the sun eating crap of the ground.

    • But it is organic that they are selling not just free-range.
