Logitech Craft Advanced Keyboard with Creative Input Dial for $179 (Was $299) + Delivery / Pickup @ JB Hi-Fi

280

Hi all. Was looking at buying the Logitech MX Keys keyboard but saw that the Craft keybord is on sale. This is essentialyl the same keyboard as the MX Keys but also has the creative dial. One thing to note is that the MX Keys is all aluminum while Craft is plastic in the key area with aluminium in the dial area. Battery life is also a bit different with the craft coming short at 3 days vs 10 days for the MX.

This keyboard may not be for everyone but some might find it useful.

  • but also has the creative dial

    what does it do?

    • +4

It is like the surface dial. It is touch sensitive and can be rotated. there are many app uses like panning, scrubbing, etc. These can be set up in the Logitech software. There are also some inherent one from logitect itself for programs like photoshop, MS office, etc.

        thanks

Had to look it up. It's a dial that ties into software packages (photoshop, etc) and allows you to change settings. The setting you're changing will depend on the tool you're using.

    • I have this keyboard, the dial does next to nothing useful and Logitech has given up on it which is why the MX Keys is this keyboard without the dial.

  • Hi OP

Curious to know how this differs from a standard $40 wifi keyboard. Apart from the material build, are there additional functions?

    • +2

Probably just the build quality and typing experience. I am typing on a $20 keyboard right now but the keys are not the best feeling to type on. But to each their own. Not everyne would want to spend this amount on a keyboard though.

      Other things to note are:
      - Backlight
      - USB Connection
      - Wireless conection through dongle
      - Bluetooth connection with up to 3 devices at the same time, with keys to switch on the fly
      - optimizable keys
      - Logitech MX Flow compatible

        everyne

        That's a $20 keyboard for ya.

        • Lol. yes this is why i am looking for a new keyboard. my current one is skipping letters a lot and i do a fair bit of typing.

          • @bonechiller: Once you go Mechanical, you won't go back.

I am using a $35 kogan mechanical keyboard. Works well.

            • @reddead2067: I actually prefer my MX Keys to my mechanical keyboard. Its the best keyboard I have typed on

    • The keys are great to type with.
Backlight is a cool feature but drains the heck out of the otherwise great battery.
Keys have also got concave groves in them which i thought was a gimmick but it's been a great addition.
BT works well but honestly, with OSX nothing beats the Unifying software (which in my case i've run a usb cable to right under where my keyboard and mousse normally sit)
the Crown….the Crown…another feature i felt was a gimmick but once you script program-based shortcuts, there is really no other competitor imo.

No idea if worth it, I use Lightroom and Photoshop 24/7, would this be worth it for someone like that?

Excuse my entire lack of knowledge!

what does image and video editing have to do with a keyboard?

      • +1

The dial on the keyboard can be configured to setup easy access to application tools, e.g in Photoshop you can configure the dial to select certain Photoshop tools like brush sizes, zoom etc to minimise clicking around.

        • Interesting, I'll have to research more. I have the mx master 3 and am disappointed with… I lost my previous gen 1 mx master and absolutely loved it!

Mx 3 just doesn't have the same size feel and weight, the buttons feel plasticy and cheap and is quite a bit smaller, this is mostly due to personal preference but I'll be returning it and buying the 2s, so have been hesitant for the other mx lineup.

          • +2

@Dubious speculation: I have the MX Master 1 and 3 and much prefer the 3. The thumb buttons next to the side scroll wheel are so much easier to click on the 3.

            • @eug: I guess so, I can see your reasoning, but I personally vastly prefer the gen 1 implementation overall.

            • @eug: I agree with you and the thumb button of my MX1 is stuck.

              • @Imposter: Ahh, I had that problem too. Had to open it up to fix it.

    • pair it with the Logitech MX Master 2S or 3 and you'll have the idea setup. I use the crown multiple times daily but the MX Master 2S & 3 extra shortcuts with the FN key opens you up to a whole new world of shortcuts imo.

      • What sort of shortcuts do you have on your MX Master? Looking to utilise my mouse more effectively

    • This is definitely a nice to have rather than a must have. might help with productivity but not a complte game changer in myopinion. if you are buying it, buy it for a great keyboard…something like the MX Keys which is one of the best keyboards.

I got this keyboard about 6 months ago, very happy with it. It's the best keyboard I have owned. Highly recommended.

  • +4

wonder when the mx master 3s is gonna go on sale again. its been months

  • What is the closest wired version of this keyboard?

    • This keyboard… plugged in 24/7.

  • I have a Logitech MX Keys version of this keyboard (no dial) - best keyboard I ever used :) I mainly used cheapies so far though…

  • With that amount of money, absolutely go for mx keys!

    • +2

….thats because the MX Keys IS the Craft without the crown…if you arent gonna use the crown, no doubt get the MX Keys for the better battery life & slightly higher profile…but at this price, you are you saying pay $20 extra for a relatively identical product with less features….

      • I wonder if they mean Cherry MX switches.

        • hmm i doubt it lol. Mechanical's are a whole different breed altogether haha..the way people customise their Mechanical keyboards is quite unreal lol

      • My comment was based on loads of negative reviews regarding the connection issue of Craft. It seems Keys suffers less from the disconnection. Do you have one? Have you experienced any connection issues? Otherwise, both are great keyboards.

I am currently using a wireless mechanic kb which suits me very well. The only feature it lacks and I wish it has (after owning it for a while) is backlight.

        • ye i've used the Craft for bit over a year now. No issues with my iMac at work. Had minor BT connection issues with my Macbook Pro (since Working from Home) but nothing the Unifying Dongle couldn't fix. But the connection issue would be the same on it's brother the MX Keys. I think the MX Keys is absolutely the best option for most people. but the Craft in the realm of under $200 is hard to argue against imo. At work i didnt use the backlight so i charged it once every 2-3 weeks, at home the lighting is obviously worse so i use the backlight and charge every 3-4 shifts.

    • Would also recommend going with the MX Keys if you dont need the dial. The MX Keyboard has a better battery life, recharges using USB-C and has a small footprint.

      • The MX Keyboard has a better battery life, recharges using USB-C and has a small footprint.

The Craft recharges with USB Type C as well.
Logitech says the MX Keys will last up to 5 months and the Craft will last up to 3 months with the backlighting off.

I reckon recharging once at the start of each season (or even once a month) isn't too big a deal, so I wouldn't worry too much about battery life. YMMV of course.

    • i was going for the MX Keys but for $20 cheaper, you get the same keyboard with more features. If you miss out on this, then definitely go for the MX Keys.

  • +1

Years ago, I used to use the Griffin PowerMate for non-linear video editing.

If you can find a way to utilise a dial into your workflow, I'd highly recommend this product.

  • +5

    I have this keyboard.
The dial is mostly useless, I never really make any regular use of it.
Basically , if you can get MX key for cheaper, get MX keys. MX keys also have better battery compare to this one.

    • I set the dial to switch virtual desktops and use it frequently.

    • i have the dial programmed to run Automations via Automator & ScriptEditor. I use it all day everyday (along with the FN Modifier for my MX Master 3) for my work.

      • +1

But haven't you heard that henrypham120190's word is gospel? ie. He doesn't use it = useless.

        • hahaha….dammit! if that crown is useless and i rely on it to perform everyday work tasks, does that make me less than useless? argh!

  • Would anyone know how this compares to the Logitech K750? My Cherry MX Blues are no good for my PC as it's in the lounge and driving everyone nuts.

  • i have this keyboard…

    great to type on…low profile…

recharge it maybe…once every few months

the dial is a bit gimmicky…used it less than i thought i would as a part-time content creator, but that's probably because I don't have a adobe subscription.

other than that, would recommend it at this price.

    • +1

I have this keyboard also. And I am also a part time content creator.

Dial is definitely a gimmick. I deliberately bought this to speed up workflow using the dial, however I really only use it to zoom in and out. Nothing like change brush sizes or windows etc.

Great to type on, USB-C charge maybe once a fortnight. Looks good. But worth $179? I would say no.

  • I have this keyboard and love it but the dial is next to useless , it's very sensitve and that's why Logitech released the MX keys which is this keyboard without the dial.

Also the battery life on this thing is ULTRA bad and I now have it connected to my laptop via a usb-c cable permanently now.

The coolest feature is the sensor that lights up the keyboard when it senses your hand near it but it's buggy if you have a sliding keyboard desk and slide keyboard away as it kills battery but not a issue if it's connected via cable all time.

    • Thanks. I saw some reviews said the battery life is not good if used for 8-10 hours a day working from home and ended up charging every day or two having the backlight sensor on.

      Is that true?

      • reports are right. You need to turn off the keyboard lights if you plan on using it more then a few days.

I do LOVE the keys on it though and it has a very nice build and weight to it.

I don't know much about the logitech MX Keys but from what I heard it's the same kb without the stupid dial. The Craft KB is discontinued last I heard and the MX Keys is the replacement.

  • I ended up paying more for the MX Keys. The way they switched the materials for the top vs the entire keyboard is what sold me. Feels niiiicceee. The crown looks like (and seems to be echoed here) a bit of a gimmick.

Great feel on the keyboard though. I moved from an Apple magic numeric to get the ability to control multiple devices from the one keyboard.

    • +1

That's what I want, the mult-device control and no wires. I have two mechanical keyboards on my desk for work and play.

  • Expensive RR. Does anyone know if it will work for Dex with Samsung Galaxy Note 10+. Ie through phones Bluetooth.

    • It works with ANY BT enabled device.

It can store 3 BT/Wireless dongle profiles.

  • Thanks, been waiting for one of these to come on sale somewhere for months.

  • RGB lighting on a wireless keyboard is painfully stupid yet 95% of models have it. Every retail store I go to only has keyboards that either look like they were built by Fisher Price, or are selling for single digit prices.

I just want a classy looking keyboard with no lights but no retail stores seems to sell any. Happy to pay up to $500. Seems I'm going to have to order something sight unseen from an online retailer.

  • Got this for the office - @ $148 at officeworks Would never buy at full price. Its…. a really great keyboard (for the right price) I didn't think so at first but it really grew on me. I notice my typing is so much faster and accurate plus super quiet which is a plus. I like the feature of having 3 devices and easily being able to select between them. The profile is very small but the keys do feel nice, FYI theres no keyboard kick stand so it is rather flat (theres a slight angle) but seems to have decent ergo's how it is - oh & the dial thing is really gimmicky for an everyday user.

  • Was looking for a MX Keys which seem to be fairly thin on the ground right now… Grabbed one of these as it's cheaper than any MX Keys I could find in stock and the crown 'should' come in handy for a few programs I use.

    • I would highly suggest to customise the dial as per your preference as opposed to the defaults.

      • Cheers… That'll be one of the first things once it's set up across the two or three computers I'll be using.

  • JB has pulled the listing it seems… so, all sold out?

    • Thanks for letting me know. Marking it as expired.
