actually the big bottle(640ml) of tsingtao beer is so much better.

    • +11

I agree that most beer is better in bigger bottles

What's wrong with a hearty stout in winter?

  • I only drink this beer in Bali when it's like a $1.80 a stubbie at the pubs

    • +3

would have been Bintang (same shit)

      • They have this as well as a regular

  • +16

lots of whingers here and yet none of them are linking better deals. this is way better than say, aussie brewed asahi, for a better price

    • +6

Yeah, you've got to be careful with the Asahi. The real Asahi from Japan is bloody fantastic, but I think in Australia that's just the Super Dry cans and the Asahi Black bottles (my personal favourite). The Super Dry bottles used to come from Thailand and now China, and you'd be better off just bottling your dog's p*ss and drinking that (lifehacks!). The Soukai is made in Australia. I haven't tried it, don't intend to.

It actually really annoys me how many of these "foreign" beers we get here are either brewed locally by the big brewers or imported from 3rd countries (eg China) and taste nothing like the real product they're impersonating. I'd like to see the labelling laws sharpened up so they have to prominently display that the beer is not the original.

      https://www.abc.net.au/news/2017-10-11/foreign-beers-brewed-…

I like this idea about having a standard label to indicate country of Origin. Should be a bare minimum.

Not better, but not too much worse for people that don't want to buy this: 24 Peroni Red Lager 330mL for $40.90: https://www.danmurphys.com.au/product/DM_569365/peroni-red-l…

  • +13

Why doesn't OzBargain create a label to identify anything made in China. All goes into my decision making.

    • +26

that will be 90% of items mate

      • +5

Even if just 10% are Aussie products - I will happily buy just that, knowing where my money will go.

Where Australian products are not available, I will buy from friendly countries that respects us.

And that's really the most of the globe. But it aint Tsingtao.

The time has come to learn to read bar codes and decrypt small print on product packaging, to make an informed decision.

    • +29

Well better throw away that device you're using to post with, along with 50% of the stuff in your place

      • +9

        50%? more like 70%-80%

      • +2

Most of my home devices are made in Japan or Korea. My car as well.

And most of my computer components are made in Taiwan, some in Malaysia and Thailand.

        All really good countries.

    • +26

I'll drag my balls through shattered glass if you can go 6 months without buying anything Chinese

      • +5

can the glass be not made in china?

        • Aussie glass mate 😁 nothing but the best

    • +1

Not sure if you're being sarcastic. Your avatar means China

      • +1

No it doesn't. It means middle/centre.

        • That what China is, literary means middle kingdom

          • +1

@tiara: You're missing the important part of the second bit "guo" which means country. So yes, China means "middle country", but that word on its own just means middle.

            • @Munki: Do you say Australia or Australia country?

              • @tiara: If Australia comprised of two individual words with meaning on their own, then I would absolutely use the two words combined.

Do you call the US "mei"? No, because you need to give that word context that you're referring to the country, so you'd use "mei guo".

The word "zhong" on its own does not say China. In mahjong there's a tile called "hong zhong". Does that mean it's referring to China?

                • @Munki: I accept your argument and please accept my bow.

              • @tiara: do you say middle or middle kingdom? amazing logic

    • You'll need a deal on selective-blinkers.

Thinking just doesn't suit some people.

    • Ideally there should be a country of origin on everything, but that's more the responsibility of the company offering deal itself when you click through to their website - it should be shown there.

If you can't find it, it's probably safe to assume that it's from China.

    • +1

Do you still own an Australian made car ? If not, you (and I) are part of the problem.

      • +1

Holden hasn't been Australian owned since 1931

  • +9

I first had a Tsingtao when I was on a business trip in China. I wasn't expecting much at all but it went down amazingly after visiting hot factories all day long. Not sure if it was the heat speaking but I really miss it compared to the cheap stuff we have here.

    • actually, the best tsingtao beer is just in Qingdao ct

    • Good to see your are supporting "Australia owned", just wish more companies would follow in your footsteps.

      • +16

I'm not sure what you mean?

Pretty much every cheap beer in Australia is not "Australian Owned". The only exception I can think of is Coopers and I have to say I'm not a fan of the views of the family that runs that company.

If you are complaining about my company trading with China that's hilarious. Trade with China is inevitable and necessary and it certainly doesn't detract from our commitments to Australia which are substantial. I think there are many people (maybe not you in particular) who say things like "support Australian made / owned" in the context of a China discussion when they actually mean "trade with anyone else is fine, just not China because China = bad". I actually think there's a lot more racism / xenophobia around than people will admit.

I'm not of Chinese descent and I'm not an apologist for the Chinese government but China is an important trading partner to Australia and whenever I visit China I am always left impressed by the ingenuity of their people and what they have managed to achieve in such a short period of time.

      • +3

Good to see you are supporting anti-globalisation, just wish more people are going back to caves.

  • +20

Discount not worth the 74% tariff on farmers…

    • +17

It will take effect from today, poor farmers…. Trump told Scomo to lead the investigation, Scomo did it with no questions, and now China signed the agreement to buy wheats from US and meantime placed heavy tariffs on Aussie farmers…feels like we were fooled….

Pretty sad when petty politics and a disgusting racial divide creeps into OzBargain.

Some of us are just here to read the about bargains, and not your political position. Save that for the forums.

    • -4

If you get too sad, maybe you could cheer yourself up by making a donation to the CCP, they love it when the gum on their shoes gives them money.

    • +17

It has nothing to do with Race. It has to do with supporting Australia.

      • +4

        Well said.

      • +14

Don't we export a crapload of resources to China? Pretty sure our trade surplus is 57 billion with China as a trading partner

      • +16

No, this kind of anti-China spirit is hurting Australia.
Australian businesses suffer for media and political propaganda.
What does Australia get in return for being anti-China? Absolutely nothing positive.

        • +26

Yeah, it's really funny because our trade surplus for Australia in 2018 stood at 67 billion and 57 billion came from China alone. 😂😂😂 If you want to support Australia don't buy from the USA because our trade deficit for the same year is 27 billion.

          • +7

@Andrew12388: You are talking too much sense for these people stop it.

          • @Andrew12388: Finally we got someone who says things that make sense.

        • It could get a lot more postive if industries returned to Australia.

        • +1

          Thanks Twiggy

            • -2

@Andrew12388: It's ok, I'm still Offended. I went to school also. Soon we'll have more Confucian schools to attend. I guess it's all good, sovereignty is overrated.

              • +1

@[Deactivated]: I guess home schooling counts 😂😂 Confucian schools 😂😂 mate you gotta tell your parents to stop smoking that good stuff when they teach you the alphabet.

                • @Andrew12388: My parents fled a country where the government was the enemy. I'd rather not suffer a death by a thousand cuts. Just flick me your Wechat ID and we can talk more if you want.

        • +1

Pretty much exactly how I feel as someone who trades with China. Of course there should be an investigation about Covid 19 so we can learn things but why did Australia have to lead the world demanding one? It's surely going to happen anyway and all we've achieved by coming out strong is damaging our trading relationship. Absolutely crazy.

          • +1

@chiefbodge: you really think that Australia is leading that investigation? Google around it, the result may shock you how disgusting the Aussie Scomo and its mouthpiece are

  • I thought these were brewed in China from dans?

  • +7

I tried to call in my order but they would not pick up the phone…..oh sorry I mis-dialled the Chinese ambassador.

Not keen on anything made in PRC.

    • +1

I tried their baby formula but it tasted like Polyfilla

    • I hope things made in PRC are not coming down on you too hard.

    • +1

Well then i've got some bad news for you mate

  • +10

I’m trying to buy as little China made items from this point on. I think Taiwan and Korea make devices.. next time I need one i will look into it. From now on, China made only if it is an absolute necessity and no alternative available.
