Not the cheapest (I think I've seen this around the $220 or $260 mark), but if anyone's looking for a premium, somewhat discounted air fryer and missed out on earlier ALDI or Myer deals. This might not be a bad choice.

I've has this for a year now - didn't want the digital version because imo that's just more to go wrong. Been great, use it all the time, cut oven usage by probably 80%, and the kids can now just chuck a bag of chips or onion rings or whatever in without needing to call on parents.

But the markings around the timer dial wiped off with a good rub, so take care cleaning this if you need the dial markings to last.

    • The cutting oven usage was a big win for me too. It just take so much time to heat the oven and it takes forever to just bake some chips and I have a frestanding oven stove. I've timed a 1kg bag of chips fresh out of the freezer will take 13-15mins depending on cut with these air fryers.

    • I've seen the markings wiped off on a couple friends Phillips ones as well.

    • My dial marking is gone within a month. Quite disappointed. At this price, might as well pay more and get a digital one.

Never understood why people overpay for these big brand ones when the cheaper in-house Branded ones from Aldi, Kmart etc do as good if not better job at a third of the price.

I was curious about this question myself, as I wasn’t able to find any comparisons between the expensive ones vs cheap versions.

Have you had experience with the Aldi/Kmart versions and the Philips one? Would be interested to hear some feedback.

I had the Philips Airfryer and it broke after 5 years (our kid dropped it!). Purchased Maxkon 7L (https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Maxkon-7L-Air-Fryer-Electric-Ove…) for $114.95 in January and it works just as good as the Philips one. I personally won't ever go back to more expensive Philips Air Fryers.

        • Was the Maxkon on special? Coming up as $180 now.

        • The kmart ones are great, we have both the smaller and the larger ones and both get used almost daily.

          Thanks for the comparison John.

I thought jimbobaus might share his experience seeing as he claims other brands do a better job. I know for a fact through usage that the Aldi one does not perform better at all. In fact it's terrible. Not sure about the kmart one though.

      • I heard this too, from an ALDI afficionado no less. Also, I hate buying gadgets for the kitchen because usually they end up not being used much, so if I do I try to keep them cheap.

I got good recommendation for the Philips devices from a few people, ummed and aahed about it for a year, then finally bit the bullet after getting a pretty strong hint from my wife that she wasn't interested in my sensibilities, she just wanted this thing. So I got it (for her!), and now I can't recommend it highly enough. Next to the dishwasher, this is the next best timesaver in the kitchen.

    • Had the Kmart one and this Philips one…bought two after our oven broke. Kmart one was great until it stopped working. The Philips one has lasted longer with more frequent use. It seemed to do a similar job as the kmart one however didn't take as long to cook. I thought the kmart one was louder though.

Is it worth buying at least 2 kmart / aldi ones over a few years, or one Phillips one?

Our timer print wiped off after a month too though, but made marking using a sharpie before they were completely gone

  • I have the digital version and it’s a godsend. Great device.

  • Yeah, I'm thinking just grabbing a kmart one instead. Seems it's pretty well liked. How much better are these going to be?

    • No difference at all, except maybe in capacity. I own the Kmart one and another one I bought on ebay with 7 litre capacity.
Its basically an element with a fan but Philips charge 3 times the price.

      • Hmm this comment suggests the Philips may perform slightly better… I guess it depends on whether you think it's worth the extra dollars.

        • The Kmart one I have is the digital one, not the analogue one with the dial. Have had mine for about 2 years now and performance is the same as the day I got it. But agree, if you want the Philips, just get it. If you are on a budget, do not dismiss the Kmart one though.

  • Off topic, but has anyone tried a Kogan air fryer. I ordered one on presale for $99 and it’s due to dispatch 25th June.

Just checked and it’s price has since increased to $129.

Yep I’ve got one and love it. Yes the build quality probably isn’t as solid but for $100 (I got mine for $75) it’s well worth the discounted price and the basket is much bigger compared to the 5L ones which is important since you can’t stack things If you want that crispy crunch. The overall size of the machine isn’t much bigger than the 5L versions either given the extra space you get. I have an oven but takes forever to preheat, cook then cool down. I’m done before my oven can preheat in most cases. Overall I’m pretty happy with it!

  • I bought the digital one of these in 2015 (Philips HD9240 XL) and it is still going strong today. One of my favourite kitchen investments ever.

Same comment I always say: If you're not desperate for one right now, Amazon bring the digital XXL one down to $269 periodically. Hell of a deal and absolutely fantastic unit.
