The remake of the first two Tony Hawk games is coming out on September 4th, developed by Vicarious Visions (who did the Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy) and it's looking quite promising and it's currently at a lower price than any other retailer for just $59 on Amazon which is $10 cheaper than JB and EB Games but it's only the standard and not the deluxe edition (or the collector's edition with the skateboard deck).

This listing is for the PS4 version but the Xbox One version is also available at this price, so I suggest you get on it before it goes up and it's an even better deal if you're a prime member.

Mod Edit 25/5: Price dropped from $59 to $58 (a few days ago at least).

@Bryanalves: Wow, what an 'insult'. Be careful, I think you just used your days allocation of brainpower with that one Bryan.

            • +2

@TheDukeOfNukem: It’s weird that you’re getting down voted for saying this?

              • @aja12: Next time I'll interject with lyrics from Bring the Noise from THPS2.

Activision couldn't manage to put it in the remake so I'll put it in the OzBargain page of the remake at least.

                YEEEEEEEAH BOOOOOOOOOOOI

@chihaeru: But HELL THERE AIN'T NOTHING TO GAIN!

    • +1

      You funny cnuts😆

  • +19

Same price as Gamesmen and Mighty ape.

Not really a deal. It's just a pre-order price for something three and a half months away.

    • Oh really? I didn't notice that.

    • +1

It's $70-$80 digitally and RRP for Xbox. $59 pre-order with free shipping is definitely a deal.

  • +1

Why didn’t they do the first three together??

    • I’ll do one better - why don’t they do the first four together?

      • +14

Why not five? Oh wait, no one wants Pro Skater 5

      • +3

        THUG was just as good

        • THUG 2 was, in my opinion, the best of all

    • +3

I don't think 3 is seen as being as classic as the first 2 were. First 2 are more iconic.

      • +6

Er…3 is the bomb. Early ps2 title. Was magnificent.

        • +2

3 definitely rates above 2 in my opinion. I’d actually consider 3 the best of the time limited THPS titles.

        • YES, the 3rd one was great. i got it for PS1 on my 6th birthday

      • 3 is the best one.

And also tied for the highest rated PS2 game of all time on Metacritic (at 97, with GTA3).

I'm sad Tony Hawk 1 and 2 have now been remade 3 times (not to mention the enhanced Dreamcast ports too) and all we got for Tony Hawk 3 was a 3 level DLC pack for the second THPS1+2 remake in 2012 (which has since been delisted).

        Seriously.

I (profanity) ADORE the THPS games but 1 and 2 had been remade on Xbox back in '01 with new content. They had then been half remade on PS3/360 in 2012 which I won't say much about. And now we're getting another remake that admittedly looks amazing and I can't wait, but (profanity) sake, if this doesn't lead to a Tony Hawk 3+4 remake (yes I know the differences in gameplay, I don't (profanity) care) I will RIOT.

        • +2

          Buy it then bitch

      • +5

It was the (tied-for) highest rated game of the entire PS2 library, so pretty sure a few people would want it…

        • I agree. It would have been awesome but I guess doing all 4 into one with a new engine would have been too much work.

    • +8

Probably so they can follow up later with 3+4

    • +2

Yeah it'd make sense to put 3 in there too, because it was the last game with the timed runs as main gameplay. But much bigger levels, and details like reverts, make it a bit too different than 1 & 2. The first 2 are essentially the same game.

    • So they can do THPS3/4 together and then THUG1/2 together if the sales are good. Milk it for all it's worth.

      • I wouldn't be surprised if they did that.

    • I will be the one waiting for the MCC counterpart of Tony Hawk's Collection.

It will take ten more years but it will be glorious.

    • Money. If people like this, they will be more inclined to buy the next HD remake. That way, they can sell 2 full priced games to fans, rather than including everything on 1 disc and only make 1 sale.

  • +2

I thought Vicarious Visions were the original developers.

    • +15

I think they did some of the handheld ports/versions, but Neversoft were the original developers of the main games for consoles.

      • Yes, Vicarious did the handheld iterations of the Tony Hawk games.
Sad that Neversoft is no more since they were kinda run into the ground by Activision.

  • +3

Keen as, one of the first games I remember playing.

    • Dam kids.

  • +19

    Remember NO preorders people!

    • Agreed, especially with something that's trying to get to your nostalgia

    • +1

Yeah I pre-ordered Tony Hawk's Pro Skater HD and for some reason they totally cut the multiplayer from the PC version despite both consoles having it. Didn't matter in the end because I only played it twice as the physics were absolutely garbage and played nothing like the original games.

      • +1

I got that version before it was taken off Steam because I thought it would be the closest thing we'll get to a decent TH game even though it's garbage. I guess I don't need it anymore.

    • Not a fan of Kickstarter?

    • But it's so shiny and it smells soooooo good…

    • Say this constantly get downvotes.

      Fickle consoomers

  • Too bad they don’t have the collectors Edition.

  • +8

I just need a demo disk with a 2 minute timed demo of the indoor skatepark from THPS1, and I'm good.

    • +2

No joke if you preorder digital you get a warehouse demo lol

      • any news if you get the Demo with the Amazon Pre-order? i just pre-ordered while it's $49. the demo already started but would like to know.

  • Any discounts on Ghosts of tsushima?

    • +3

They do. Heather Graham's putting her name to it

    • So very modern, Wilma Flintstone.

    • +5

"And then he goes, get this, he goes, 'Is there a rollerblade version?' He posts this on a skateboarding game. Because, like, it's a skateboarding game but he's asking if there's a rollerblading version. And I was laughing so much that I was crying. But then when I went to wipe away my tears, I saw there was blood all over my hands. So, that's why I'm here at the hospital."

    • Aggressive Inline was Acclaim's answer to THPS back in the 00s:

      https://youtu.be/t-Uos-GBOT4

    • jv, I could see you down at Bondi Beach having a little roller blade. Short shorts. No shirt. Headphones.

  • +10

Can't believe they didn't bring this to switch….

    • +2

I'm pretty sure they will in the next year or so.

    • Agree! The console even looks like a skateboard. Bring out a special edition Switch that looks like a Birdhouse Tony Hawk skateboard. Print money.

  • +6

I have high hopes for this game, but I won't be preordering it.

A playable demo and a review embargo that lifts well ahead of release date would be a good show of confidence by Activision. If initial impressions seem good, I'll get it, but the track record is way too spotty to preorder this on blind faith.

    • +1

Yeah, I understand. I'm keeping mine since Amazon doesn't charge me until release but that said, if things go bad, I'll cancel.

    • I'm not suggesting you should pre-order it, but the Warehouse level is available as a playable demo for digital pre-orders.

  • Does Amazon still do additional $5 off pre-order?

    • -1

Sadly they haven't offered that for over a year.

      • +1

They did it a few months ago

        • +1

I think it was for selected titles, not as amazing as when it was first offered. Everything got $5 off, no question.

  • So tempting compared to digital price. But I want to be able to play on 2 consoles at once.

  • ROLLING AROUND, AT THE SPEED OF SOUND, GOT PLACES TO GO…

    • FOLLOW MY RAINNBOW!

      • BUT I JUST LIKE TO GO WITH THE FLOW..
UNTIL IT GETS HOT AND STARTS TO GLOW..
N THE JEEP NEARBY GO KABOOM AND BLOW

  • Sooo… any benefit to pre-ordering???

    • $59 is a benefit.

    • +1

If there's a lower price you should automatically get it. If not you're locked into this price which could possibly go up.

  • +1

    But does it have Horse?

    • Of Course.

      Edit. I don't know.

  • Does Amazon charge you now or when shipped?

    • When it's shipped.

  • +3

For any skateboarding lovers checkout Skater XL, currently at beta pricing on Steam for PC but set to jump as releases on Xbox, PlayStation and Switch in July (7/7/20).

Has controls similar to Skate 3 using analogue sticks unlike the button press of Tony hawk. left analogue is left foot right is right, and no snapping onto grinds, you have to perfectly line up to fall into the rail at the right angle, quite frustrating but very fun.

  • Thps2 is the patricians choice.

  • I need the special edition of this. Thank you for pointing it out, I wasn't aware it was coming out. Pro Skater 1 and 2 were my childhood, and later games just weren't the same for me.

  • +2

anyone who preorders this far out is insane…

    • why this game is great lol

    • Why?

    • Amazon doesn’t charge until they ship.

    • -2

      Anyone who preorders is insane

      • People that preorder a game they’re going to buy anyway are mentally ill?

        • +1

I don't understand how / why people decide to buy a game this far out from release? What if the developers completely and utterly botch it and it's a steaming pile of crap? Better to hold onto your money until release and hear what the word about it is and then decide if it's worth buying or not. Or does Amazon's returns policy allow you to refund for any reason? Even then are you on the hook for the return shipping?

          • @AngusD: Everyone is different. Is pre-ordering pointless? Pretty much. Do I do it for some games? Yep. I’m yet to regret a single preorder. With Amazon, the cheapest price is locked in even if it drops in price again before launch. I don’t know why people worry about how others spend their disposable income.

Things are different these days, there’s so much pre-launch coverage of games that it’s easy to make a decision without relying on reviews and being told by someone whether something is good or not.

I’ll preorder this game because a) its a franchise I love, b) nostalgia, c) Vicarious Visions has an impeccable history and has been in the industry for 3 decades, d) Vicarious Visions has ex-Neversoft staff working for them, I’m confident the game will turn out exactly as it should, and e) it’s $59, maybe even cheaper by the time it releases.

          • @AngusD: Amazon don't charge you until it ships, also the price may go up before release so by pre-ordering now you lock in the $59 price, if it goes cheaper Amazon will charge you the cheaper price, this has happened with a few games, FF7R is a good example as price dropped $10 after I pre-ordered (was cheapest place at the time already) and they used the wrong artwork so gave me a further $5 back. The price subsequently went back up and I was still charged the lowest price as that is their price guarantee terms, all of this is automatic you don't need to claim.

If nearer the time I change my mind, simply cancel the order as my card has not been charged so no refund needed.
