[VPN Required] [PC] Borderlands 3 ~ $7.43, Red Dead Redemption 2 ~ $28.66 etc (Russia Store, after RUB650 Coupon) @ Epic Games

844

First post. :') Cheapest prices I' ve seen so far. Was looking at the different regions for epic games and found the games to be hella cheap on the Russian store. All upgrades(deluxe packs, gold editions etc) are also available. Claim the RUB650 off coupon by claiming the free GTA V (original deal is linked below) and then purchase the game you want. You do require a Russian VPN and a card which supports international payments.

Did a bit of digging around and I dont see any evidence that the games are region locked. Please do correct me if I am wrong.

P.S I would advise creating a new Epic Games ID on the VPN and keeping the games on there just to be safe.

I'd love to hear someone's experience with this - if we can just use the Russian shopfront and it'll get credited to our regular accounts, or if it's necessary to have a separate account and use a VPN the whole time.

Also whether these versions of the game support English would be ideal too! Thanks for the insight

    • +6

Checked in with a friend who does this. Apparently the store asks for documents when you change your region after a purchase. So it's recommended to have a separate account. But AFAIK games aren't region locked so you wouldn't need a vpn to play after purchase (my friend does this but he's in another country so don't take my word for it).

Regarding the language, I checked with Borderlands 3 and a simple launch command setting was enough to play in English.

        Thanks for the insight kazer!

      • Any idea about games like Star Wars Fallen Order which requires the origin launcher?

        • +3

For Star Wars, you're better off getting it from the Egypt Epic Games Store, as they only have it for $8.19USD (with coupon).

      • Hi buddy,

can you elaborate a bit please on what you means with the launch command to play the game in English?
Is it complicated or is it just a matter of choosing the language on startup/

then get banned and lose all of your games? great investment:)

    • +6

It ain't very hard to create a separate account on Epic. Hardly takes 2 mins. The savings are pretty considerable. The cheapest price for Borderlands 3 is 29$ while here you get it for 8$.

      • -5

But that's actually dodgy, not because of purchasing from RU store, but the attempt to get another voucher using another account.

        • +6

You get another voucher every time you purchase a new game, so they're not exactly limiting it.

          • @MissKitty: how many times they give u voucher on purchasing a game? i got Detroit BH and they gave me another 15$. if i use this one too, will they give me another voucher?

            • @V003: To my knowledge, as long as you use the coupon on a game that WAS valued at $22.99(AUD) they'll give you another coupon. I'm not sure if you were asking for AUD or were asking about the RU stuff mentioned in the post, can't help there

              • @Dingleberry: i was asking AUD one, but i got the answer anyway, thanks

            • @V003: I got three games and got a new voucher each time… (as long as you buy a game over $22.99 where the voucher is used).

              • @MissKitty: OH NICE, I was hesitating to spend it on something less important but i guess i can go at it again. thanks

  • +2

Managed to get Borderlands 3. Worked out to be $7.71. Thanks OP!

    • could you please explain the end result. you have now two separate EG accounts and log in to one or the other on your pc depending on what you want to play?

  • +2

    Nordvpn doesn't have Russia boooo

    • +2

Yea I had to download a new one. I used a free trial of a vpn called Hideman.

    • +1

I'll try Ukraine with Nord and report back if that does the trick.

  • Anyone know if what this works out for things like AC Odyssey?

    • +2

It does for the Gold Edition. The Standard Edition of AC Odyssey does not meet the minimum price requirements for the coupon

      • It did for me. Got it down from $30 to $15, the standard edition that is.

        • That's the Aus store right? In the Russian store even without the discount it's around 15$

  • Red Dead Redemption 2?

    • ~ $28.66 for standard edition.

      • +1

Title now changed, didn't have the 2

        • +1

Yes sorry. I noticed only after you asked. And I thought you were asking about the price.

You can get a free vpn with Moscow server from Kaspersky. It comes with their Kaspersky Internet Security pack (I bought it on saveonit website from another deal on ozbargain)
Free VPN is limited to 200 mb per day.
    Good luck.

    • I tried kaspersky VPN, but unfortunately the free 200-300mb version doesn't include the Russian server.

You will need to subscribe to a minimum of $8 per month VPN to select Russia

      • Which country do they use?
For me free VPN comes through Moscow's server mate. If you subscribe than you can use other 24 countries.
Funny thing I can access all blocked in Russia sites through Moscows Kaspersky server.

      • I believe their iOS app offers the subscription with a trial period. So you can subscribe, do what you need to do and then unsubscribe.

I bought from one of the dirt cheap regions when Epic Games Launcher. After buying one game all of my future parents got rejected, had to contact support and change to Australian store.

I can confirm it used to work with 28degrees card but now I can confirm if you have any of these cards don't waste your time as it wont work.

    • Commonwealth Bank Platinum MasterCard (debit)
    • Commonwealth Bank Business Visa (debit)
    • Citibank Mastercard (debit)
    • 28degrees Mastercard (Credit)
    • Coles Mastercard (credit)
    • +2

Yea its recommended to create a seperate account for this region and not change the store at all. I think most of the OZBargainers should have an ING Orange Everyday card which is one of the best to use internationally.

    • Will PayPal work?

      • +1

PayPal is not a payment method available on the Russian store.

        • Oh :o

    • +14

      future parents got rejected

      RIP your parents

    • +1

      Sorry about your parents.

I just used 28 degrees to purchase through the Epic app. It first deducted a $0.89 that I had to verify, but went through after that with no problem. This is with a brand new Russian account using VPN.

Intrigued that the whole process did not ask me for a residential address at any point.

The email receipt I got from Xsolla (payment processor) said the total was A$29.74 and VAT (10%) was included, Country - Australia. Interesting. I guess this is the card payment processor and the country was based on the credit card.

    • Can't get through payment. can't see the verification charge on my account

  • So where exactly on the Epic store, terms of service, etc does it say you cant buy from other regions and they will lock your account?

    • +3

My first thought exactly. Not exactly a bargain if it's a grey area like this.

  • -4

This kind of behaviour is fraudulent and in many cases and platforms, can result in account suspension / access revoked.

This isn't a OzBargain, because this is always an option, an option that is underhanded looked down upon, that can easily lead to a bad end. It really isn't worth it.

    • -6

      Agreed.

    • +8

Meh doesn’t stop those out there with Indian Youtube accounts lol

      • +1

        Very different risk.

I've got Indian YouTube Premium, and Turkish Netflix. Difference is, there's nothing to lose.

        • Any tips for signing up for Turkish Netflix? I'm with PIA and they have servers in Turkey but do I need a certain type of payment method and/or Turkish address?

      • Different businesses have different policies when it comes to VPN use. I would say that Epic Games takes a harsh stance towards VPN use. You can get your account banned because of it. There was some one in another thread who reported getting access to games on the Epic Games account banned and it was because of VPN use.

    • +2

Its not always an option bud. There's a sale going on which i believe classifies as a Bargain.

    • Good point. I would feel bad switching regions. I'll leave mine in Russian

    • I'd be too worried about losing my 40 free games from a ban

      • +2

        Sounds like a you problem

  • so whats the deal? you end up with multiple epic accounts which you need to login to to play/get updates?

    • +1

From my understanding accounts are region locked upon first. If you don't have billing details added yet you're free to change regions. Having multiple accounts will depend on your current accounts circumstances

  • If you do this on steam you get banned pretty quick, but epic are as dodgy as ever huh

    • You used to be able to do this on Steam, except even more freely - they wouldn't ask for documents to change your region

      • I can't remember Steam ever officially endorsing VPN use on their service. In fact i'm pretty sure that VPN use was disallowed in the EULA. It was always a violation of the agreement.

        • VPN use to buy from a cheaper region is banned.
          General VPN use is not.

          • @Lysander: I think you will find any VPN use is not allowed.

            • @hollykryten: I have checked with them years ago. Unless something has changed since then their main concern is VPNs being used to buy from cheap regions as it affects their bottom line.

        • Nor does Epic endorse using VPN to get around region pricing, unless I'm mistaken. Not sure what your point is.

As for Steam, long ago it wasn't explicitly stated in their terms and it was quite easy to get games from cheaper regions. They gradually tightened things up until they were how they are now where you can't even gift a game between regions if the price difference is too large.

      • yeah go do it, i know plenty of people who got banned doing it

  • You are all greatly risking having your Epic Games account banned. Epic Games is monitoring VPN use with some automated system and auto banning those accounts. If your VPN IP is on their monitoring list then say goodbye to all your games. It's just not worth the risk.

  • This doesn't work unless you have a card registered in Russia.

    • I love my ИНГ Банк card

    • +1

      Working with CBA debit card

      • I can confirm this after several attempts, the pending charge code went through after several attempts

  • when i try to buy a game aafter switching my country, it says my account is blocked from making purchases, i havent made any purchases on the other account, is this because i didnt use a vpn? the correct russian currency shows up

    • +1

You do require a Russian VPN and a card which supports international payments.

  • ok now how I launch this friggin game? Can't seem to get it to work.

    • I kept getting problems authenticating to EPIC servers, but finally it ran after a few hours. Just bad timing.

  • Epic have caught onto this already, much like Blizzard doing the same thing with the Brazilian currency last year. There has generally been weekly ban waves since February.
So yeah have fun getting banned;)

    • Links? It's against their ToS but the only regular vpn Epic bans are all Fornite related

  • +1

Got RDR2 for $25.49 through Ukraine store

  • GTA 5 is $750 RUB in the store…

  • So, my question is:

Has anybody here bought Borderlands 3 and downloaded and played it yet? If so, did you download with or without VPN, is your VPN on while playing, and, if no VPN, have you had any issues logging back into your normal Australian account?

    • Use vpn while buying. Downloading and playing without vpn. No issues logging into either accounts. Only time you need a vpn is for purchasing.

      • Ok. Already done that. So I can log into my new Russian account without VPN as normal?
