With B450 not supporting Zen3 upgrades, the x570 becomes more attractive. I expect the B550 to be a bit more expensive than the decent B450 boards ~ $200 to $250, X570 still has a place as the VRM will be better.

Description shamelessly stolen from the last deal:
Despite most items from Amazon US skyrocketing upwards in price recently, this ASUS AM4 TUF Gaming X570-Plus ATX Motherboard is still a good deal relative to all local stores (in-stock sellers typically want $399 to $429 here + delivery for the Wi-Fi variant). Note this does not have inbuilt 802.11ac unlike the Wi-Fi version but is identical in all other aspects

The motherboard has been reviewed positively, has a good VRM for this price tier of X570 board and can handle CPUs like the 3900X without problems. The upcoming MSi X570 Tomahawk Max looks even better but is likely to come at a higher price point (especially with the lower AUD to USD exchange rate these days).

Please correct me if I am wrong here but…

    • Zen3 is meant to come out in the next 6 months.
    • Zen4 is due 2021.
    • Zen4 will be AM5 socket (along with DDR5 and PCIe 5.0)

Meaning, this is only offering 1 future gen upgrade path, before the next socket is relased (and will probably be the standard for the next 3 to 5 years).

If I am wrong… How does this compare to the locally available and cheaper MSI X570-A PRO AM4 ATX Motherboard
    https://www.mwave.com.au/product/msi-x570a-pro-am4-atx-mothe…
    https://www.umart.com.au/MSI-X570-A-Pro-AM4-ATX-Motherboard_…

    Thanks!

    • +1

I would go for this one but already bought Asus prime x570 pro ahhhr

      • +1

Yeah but the prime is significantly better in RGB

    • +12

This is significantly better than the MSI

This compares to the Gigabyte X570 Aorus elite as an excellent value x570 board.

      https://i.redd.it/2iwdy5wrrly31.png for Vrm tier list)

The VRM on the MSI board are no better than a B450 board, which makes it overpriced.

Yes you only get to upgrade to 4000 series. Better than a kick in the teeth.

      • +1

        Beat me to it. haha.

      • +1

Appreicate the response (and the link).
These boards are obviously different qualities and more than the spec sheet needs to be compared.

Also, it seems like a bizzare decision by AMD to require the 500-series chipset to support just one future generation of CPU.
With so many 400 series board including extended BIOS storage (and flashback), it seems crazy to make this change now instead of waiting one more generation until the AM5 socket and coming out with the big change then.

        • +1

unless it's to effectively bug-fix on a mass scale, with marginal (but still significant) changes for their next generation

    • +2

The cheaper MSI's have terrible VRM and get roasted both by reviewers and because they run notoriously hot. The X570 tomahawk they are releasing remedies this.

The Asus TUF board in the deal is a well reviewed board and has decent VRMs.

Between the board you linked and this deal, it's a no brainer to go with the Asus TUF.

    • this is only offering 1 future gen upgrade path, before the next socket is released

More reason why Zen3 should be supported on older mobos. Hope AMD will and I can use my x370 with Zen3 CPU.

    • Sure its only one gen to go of support but most PC users upgrades within 3 years or so. Especially if you're just gaming. Prices of these new gens will be much more expensive to build on. You won't see any real benefits until years later when it becomes the actual standard

      • I don't know anyone that upgrades their whole pc that often… Must be an enthusiast thing. You know it's funny that people that purchase mid tier products often sit on them for 5-6 years while people that buy high end gear justify the cost with the idea that it's future proof only to replace the parts faster. I do have a friend that upgraded his gen 1 threadripper to gen 2 after 1 year…. 5% upgrade woo lol

        • It really depends. Some Hardcore Enthusiast likes to brag and wants the best of the best even if they dont need it or just purely "Enthusiast". Then there's your professionals such as video editors or those who like to play simulations. Then you have your wanna be streamers. Then your gamers who wants as much FPS as possible. It really depends.

CPU upgrades common on gaming to achieve better and consistent FPS, once bottle neck happens, upgrade GPU. its a cycle. For some 5-6 years are the one who are just satisfied with average use.

          TLDR: To each their own

  • This one doesn't have Wi-Fi, does it? I can't see it anywhere online

    • +1

From what I can tell it is a US only model without WIFI

    • +4

Better off without a wifi mobo so you can upgrade wifi independently and replace the wifi card as needed. Plus, if your mobo wifi breaks then you're SoL.

      • +2

No motherboard actually has "built in" WiFi, they are all using an M.2 expansion card so this is a moot point.

        • -3

          Thats just straight up wrong.

  • +2

I watched 2 hours of Buildzoid rambling and this motherboard came up as the top "budget" choice. Good VRMs for CPU overclocking, and being PCIE 4.0 compliant the motherboard will be good for RAM overclocking too.

  • Sorry for the stupid question. How is the warranty for this motherboard?

    • +4

Amazon US, don't expect to receive any support from Asus Australia.

    • +1

I've dealt with Amazon US warranty before and they were extremely good

    • +1

if u have any issues call up amazon they’ll help you

i got refunded the full amount when I had major issues

  • +3

Good price but you might see it by Christmas the way amazon US has been (and thats for instock items…)

    • yeah… I lined up a GPU on Amazon US

was meant to be in stock this week, so placed an order a week ago
got fed up of it (it's vanished out of existence now), and placed an order on Newegg instead

Newegg (with free shipping on some items over 300 AU) has already listed the order as packaging (despite ordering under an hour ago)

  • Got one from the last deal for a little bit more. Arrived today - payment only got charged last weekend so pretty pleased

  • Hey guys for my planned 3600 build this or the new MSI b450m pro carbon max wifi? Not looking to upgrade cpu in the next few years. https://www.pccasegear.com/products/50001/msi-b450-gaming-pr…

    • +2

Definitely this as that b450 is egregiously overpriced. If the b450 was -$100 less then I would probably suggest that as you don't an x570 with a 3600, but this will remain a lot more relevant going forwards.

    • +1

In your budget range, you should definetely be checking out the OPs X570!

For what it is worth, I'm eyeing a budget 3300x or 3600 build and have been looking at this motherboard:
      https://www.umart.com.au/MSI-B450M-Mortar-Max-AM4-ATX-Mother…

According to the chart linked above, VRMs are not as good, but shouldn't be an issue at our end of the CPU lineup.

    • +2

Get a MSI Mortar/Tomahawk for around $200, plenty for 3600 and its a great board.

Got one in my 3600 based gaming pc and its great.

Was going to run one in my new 3900X system but decided after ordering to go X570 (Asus X570-F deal off ebay)

    • +6

Like everyone else mentioned, you don't need this class of MB for a 3600, and the one in your link isn't good value

MSI B450-A PRO MAX or MSI B450M MORTAR MAX if you want the smaller mATX, both are good cheap boards. Save $100, you can get a top wifi card or a better GPU.

B550 boards will be out mid June so if you are not in a rush there may be some discounting going on.

Intel's new range should also be out mid June, but it looks like we will be paying an Australia tax (according to preorder pricing), so they unfortunately won't be as cheap as they should be.

Check http://staticice.com.au/ and au.pcpartpicker.com to compare prices

    • Thank you everybody for your replies!

    • I paid $175 for a b450 A pro from pc case gear 6 months ago. Not sure if they still sell them but way better value than the board you linked. Plenty of overclocking headroom for a 3600. Plus b450 atx boards often have better cooling with more heatsinks than their micro counterparts

      • I'd be looking to add a $70 wifi/bluetooth card and an nvme heatsink (for the aesthetics) which will add up to pretty much the same as what the carbon costs and has all the features built in already so I won't have to mess with drivers and everything.

  • I took the deal end of last year from TechFast and they supplied the similar model:
    ASUS TUF GAMING X570-PLUS (WI-FI),
    along with R9-3900X

The only problem was my first CPU died within 24 hours of delivery.
Techfast had no issues to do a DOA claim and swapped me a new CPU and an SSD. No issue since - So far, so good.

The CPU temperature is a bit high using the default CPU voltage setting, I set up a manual offset by -0.15V and it runs very well now.

  • awesome price compared to local but warranty would be a nightmare no?

  • +1

im hanging for an ITX board - x570 or b550 that doesn't cost a fortune!

  • +1

Is now a bad time to build a PC in relation to pricing?

  • Hm, only gigabit networking.

  • Would Amazon US gift cards work here or still only Amazon AU? And if AU, is there any place to buy gift cards with a slight discount? By the time Auspost ones would arrive deal would probably be over.

  • No WiFi onboard. Rather wait for a B550 with WiFi onboard.

  • Wow So much info to learn from in your comments. Thanks guys

  • Decent board it’s the hand full that u can pair it with the gigabyte ssd for x4 speed. Fastest sss in the world.

  • Damn, looks like it's over.

    • It's back, and $0.31 cheaper!

      • Looks like I missed it again..? Lol.

  • Would you guys recommend this for my editing build? Parts in forum post linked below - have since upgraded to 64gb 3200C16 RAM and Noctua DH-15 cooler. Won't be overclocking and probably won't be upgrading CPU for a few years.

It's back up for those interested, says no stock till 1 July though

    • Dam 1 hour too late have to wait again

      • I kept refreshing and then I got lucky. Snagged one.

        • +1

Yeah it came back multiple times last night. I'd just set up an alert, at least until Amazon change price seems like as they get stock it will keep popping up.

          • @Osiris: yea i just checked now showing in stock but for $282.19 not sure if its still a good buy

  • Hi all, this is available again and a little cheaper too.

  • Available for order again.
