Just got off the phone with the customer care and i found out these things .. if it is useful then go for it !!

    1. This is a contract (for 1 year) (just like a mobile contract)
    2. U cannot cancel the subscription in the middle (u can cancel it if u are willing to pay for the whole subscription + a penalty)
    3. The earphones will be delivered withing 15 days of the subscription start.
    4. You will be paying monthly (for both the offers)
      a) first offer - only digital access (28 per month)
      b) second offer - digital access with physical paper (sat and sun) (30 per month for first 3 months then 33 per month + an upfront of 129).
    • The Sat/Sun Paper option is $30 every 4 weeks for the first 12 months:

"$129 upfront (includes first 4 weeks payment) then $30 billed approximately 4 weekly for the first 12 months, min. cost $489"

      • +5

What if you cancel your credit card?

        • good question

    • +1

      just like a mobile contract

Are they doing a credit check?

      • -1

        100%
But only after they've taken the 28 bucks

        • Doesn't look like they are … they don't ask for age, etc (giving credit to an underage person is a big no-no). They also don't have the standard warnings about credit.

  • +1

    hmmm

    • +16

This would have been a perfect deal when there was a shortage of toilet papers. Bummer…

  • +127

Tempted but (profanity) supporting Rupert even if he pays me for it.

    • +23

but the money goes to support struggling politicians /s

      • +1

Sadly his type of politician is not struggling enough… like a foot from the surface, me sitting on their back…

    • -1

Most popular comment I've seen in a while.

Nothing would entice me to give money to Murdoch. Not that he needs it when the Liberals hand out tens of millions of dollars of our money.

      https://thenewdaily.com.au/entertainment/tv/2017/07/19/foxte…

Little headphones are worth nothing compared to that.

  • +1

do they give you the earbuds after the completion of the subscription? i can see in the t&c, they will refund you the cost if you terminate earlier?

    • -1

Pretty sure you have to pay $364 upfront.

      • +1

In T&C for this special offer you will be charged 4 weekly and no cancellation allowed in first 12 months

      • +1

it says, 28 dollars payment upfront and then payment every 4 weeks of 28$ ..

i have searched but there is no mention of what happens if we cancel the subscription after receiving the earbuds ..

They only say that the (paid) money will not be refunded if we cancel the subscription but no mention of the gifts .. Can anyone please comment !!

        • +4
          1. If your subscription is for a specified plan period or a fixed term with regular periodic payments throughout the term then you may not cancel your subscription prior to the expiry of the specified plan period or fixed term (so for example, where your subscription requires a payment every 4 weeks for 52 weeks then you may not cancel your subscription to take effect before the expiry of the first 52 weeks).
    • the faqs say that the earbuds will be supplied by harvey norman and they will be given the go from the paper after the 28dollars for the first month subscription is paid and started.

will take 2-15 days approximately to reach the customer it seems according to the faqs!!

    • +1

I subscribed a few years ago when they were doing this deal for the Sennheiser HD50BTNC headphones. The headphones were sent out immediately and the subscription was charged monthly. Even if you cancelled, you were still charged monthly until the subscription period was up.

      • +5

I got the same deal but my credit card expired about 3 months into the 12 month subscription so the HeraldSun cancelled my subscription due to non payment. I contacted them to provide new credit card details but there was a glitch in the system and they couldn't reactivate the subscription so they said don't worry about it and to keep the headphones. I never renewed my subscription.

        • What a win! I had a similar situation, but they actually chased me for my details. Some people have all the luck!

          • +1

@CBrads4: Theoretically speaking I might sign up for this with a prepaid VISA but I worry that they'd get a debt collection going.

            • @JD9151: Your an ozbargainer so that shouldn’t worry you as your credit rating is already stuffed from all the rewards points credit card applications you’ve gone through.

    • +2

      ..what?

    • wrong thread sweetheart!

      • -1

Actually no, there are plenty of people in here having a sook about the “ultra far right murdoch press” (lmao) so I’m definitely in the right thread!

    • …cue simpsons prezel throwing meme

  • I'm confused, how does the deal claim there is $750 value when the earbuds are $499 RRP?

    • +21

Because of the subscription to courier mail..

    • The digital news subscription is included.

    • +96

I think they are trying to suggest that the Courier Mail subscription has some sort of value itself.

      • +1

        Bingo!

      • +5

valued at -$135 ….sounds about right you would need to pay me to read their articles but even 135 isnt enough to get me to do so

    • +1

They're evaluating their news papers at going toilet paper rates, which would explain the extremely inflated value.

  • +1

I am able to see the offer. Is it sennheiser momentum wireless true wireless 2?? They haven’t mentioned it though. Need to google about the previous version and the issues with the same!

    • +1

Nah I think it’s only Gen 1 which is the one that drains battery when you leave it in the case for too long.

      • +1

Try again- think its version 1 which amazon has for $328.10

  • +4

Looks a decent deal, especially if you already buy or subscribe to the paper.

  • +1

12 month subscription without the earphones is $5 a week so really you are still paying $2 a week for the earphones

  • +11

Not sure if anybody cares but it's available through all the New+ publications I'll be signing up through the telegraph

    https://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/subscribe/news/1/

Just remember to select the heaphone opton o nthe right tab

  • +25

This is handy. You can block your ears to any wails of common decency and compassion for minorities as you read the latest in Uncle Rupert's propaganda.

  • Any ETC?

  • +21

    Say no to Murdoch.

  • +1

These are first gen and not second gen? If so they're hardly worth $499

  • +3

So its only Gen1 which a quick google shows can be had for $335 on Amazon AU.

    • actually $328.10 when you follow that link!

  • +12

Headphones are $335 on Amazon so you're spending $29 for the CM which is $29 too much. I don't think I've ever wanted to neg a deal so bad but don't see it ending well.

  • +2

They say subscription can't be cancelled, but what if you use a prepaid card to sign up? I doubt they'd get debt collectors on me…

    • I wouldn't be so sure

    • +2

Also, that would make you terrible person.

      • +2

Almost as terrible as running a news outlet that spits out propaganda to scare people away from the parties that represent people rather than mining companies.

    • +3

C’mon guys - this is OzBargain, not OzTheft…

  • Has anyone 100% confirmed if its gen 1 or gen 2? It looks like gen 1 in the image and I expect it would state if it is gen 2 but thought I would check.

    • It’s gen 1. They’re trying to get rid of all gen 1 stock to make way for Gen 2

      • Cheers

  • +3

I would not suggest reporting a lost credit card after the first month. Nope.

  • +1

    Propaganda!

  • +2

Isn't half a newspaper sports anyway? So shouldn't the subscription be 50% off in the first place?

    • +2

Can you ask them that and see if they’re happy to honour that deal for you?

  • +7

Don't bother! $349 at Dick Smith.

    • But this offer is for Digital subscription as well whether you like it or not.
Also you are paying over 12 months.
Negging this deal is not warranted based on Gift price.

      • +5

Saying NO to Murdoch Propaganda is all the justification required.

    • They're grey import?
      These aren't?

  • +14

    https://github.com/nextgens/anti-paywall

For those who want to get past the paywall without filling up old Rupert's pockets

    • Thank you. Looks interesting, but it seems has been dropped since 2018. Does it still work? How to install it as it's been removed from Chrome Web Store. Any other alternative ones?

      • +5

It still works. Download zip file, turn on developer mode in Chrome extensions, drag and drop

        • +2

Drag and drop doesn't work for me. I have to unzip it and press the "Load Unpacked" button to select the folder to install it.

Tested it works for couriermail.com.au. Thank you. Only issue is you can't see the comments without login.

    • +4

I have an extension for Chrome, I believe its called Murdoch Blocker. Works well.

      • It's called Bye Rupert. Available for Firefox too, works a treat

  • Not bad if you want to have a pair of true wireless earbuds.

    • +5

Except for the fact you can get them cheaper without supporting Murdoch.

      • +3

Murdoch? Then forget about what I just said. Totally agreed with you mate!

  • +5

Do you reckon I can find someone stupid enough to sell the subscription on to at a discounted rate?

    • I wouldn't do it to my enemy!

  • +6

Poor grandpa Pupert (US citizen) is trying all manner of tricks to sell/move his newspapers

I understand circulation was slammed once air travel stopped and then, they couldn't give away their trash for free to bored passengers

  • +7

    Not worth the brain damage.

  • +3

Couldn't think of a worse subscription to pay for. Just read online 'incognito' tab.

  • +4

I mean if it was the financial review I'd jump on it, but yeah nah.

  • What happens if you subscribe, get the ear phones then cancel your debit card so they cant get any money out?

    • Then the sheriff will be on your ass in no time.

  • +4

These headphones have been as low as $295 in some cases. Wait for a deal instead of committing $364 to that rag.

  • +2

I'd rather throw up then pay for a Murdoch subscription LOL

  • +4

Only in Australia are we stupid enough to pay to be brainwashed. Every other country this is done involuntarily. I want the buds but can't do it!

    • Without sports journalism and Fox Sports they'd make nothing.

  • +1

Typical Limited News tactics to prop up their paying customer numbers. You couldn't pay me enough to subscribe to one of their state-owned Rupertistan right wing propaganda rags.

    • absolutely

  • +2

Desperate to grow their numbers now Foxtel is getting smashed these papers are free to read at most cafes and are handed out for free at my local IGA.

    • Hopefully they'll realise in the next few years that their propaganda machine is failing. More focus on sport and less on climate change denial sounds like my kind of Foxtel.

      • We just need the laws to kill it for good and make sure it can't recover.

    • No, they had a similar deal last year.

  • +3

They're $335 on Amazon AU. And no need to buy Rupert's rags.

    • You can probably tax deduct the newspaper cost though so there's a extra saving through this approach

  • +1

Are the headphones worth it? Don't mind the idea of paying $28/month if they are, even if they are Gen 1 and not Gen 2.

  • +1

Imagine subscribing to one of these papers for something as cheap as a pair of earphones. If it was a car I would think about it.

  • Out of the three papers which one is the best?

    • +2

Courier Mail for QLD Herald for VIC and Daily Telegraph for NSW

I'd only recommend them if you're reading sports or business because the rest is garbage

  • When the AFL comes back, in the case of the Herald Sun it also includes SuperCoach Gold for the season. It's a good deal.

  • Shoot me, but I've been looking for a subscription deal with the Herald Sun for a while so I thought that this deal was perfect for me as I would get a free set of earbuds. But upon further review, the minimum cost of:

    • Digital Access + Sat/Sun Delivery with the earbuds offer is $489
    • Digital Access + Sat/Sun Delivery on the 12 month plan (without the earbuds) is $286

So this is not really a free set of earbuds with subscription, you are actually paying an additional $203 for the earbuds.
This is a great deal if you were really keen on both a subscription AND those earbuds, but if you were thinking this was a free set of earbuds, think again.
