Time to use a new email addy

    • +4

And new CC details too, I believe?

    • +4

ive used 3 emails already ahaha, be careful though you have to use different payment methods from what i know

  • +2

    YouTube Music > Spotify

    • +7

What is it about YouTube music that you prefer over Spotify? I’ve only ever used Spotify but am willing to switch.

      • +1

I'm curious about the opposite direction… But I'm paying cents/mth for YouTube music… And it does everything I want. Can't beat it.

        • What are things it does well?

          • @idonteven: Hard to detail my full usage. But it's probably different to most. I don't want to discover or guinea pig random stuff.

I find any & every song and/or video I ever look for. Plus whatever is on YouTube, like rare/unlicensed/unofficial/remixes etc. Download/offline anything I want. Easy to journey through artist, album, compilation-inclusions and add a heap of old/forgotten faves fast. I find there is plenty of settings if needing adjustment. Casting, play in background… Plenty.

And it's all free, considering the 70cents/mth I pay is worth it in-spades to kill YouTube ads on all devices.

      • +3

I have youtube premium through the long running deal on here.

From my experience so far spotify is better but not an extra 10 bucks a month better. I also really appreciate ad free youtube (i know you can use 3rd party apps for this but i am lazy).

    • +1

I'm considering switching to YT music too. But only downside is the slightly lower audio quality (256kbps < 320kbps) and the lack of desktop app. Are there any work arounds for the desktop app? I don't want to open a browser to listen to music everytime. Also, how does offline songs work on windows, can offline songs be played through browser?

      • +1

Yeah google YouTube Music Desktop app. It's a 3rd party application. I think these fellas also created the original Google Play Music desktop app which ive been using for a while

        • Can you play offline songs using this 3rd party app? Also, how do you transfer all playlists from spotify to YT music?

        • Thanks for this tip! I love YT music for the remixes etc.

    • +7

Google play music > Spotify > YouTube Music > Death > YouTube Music App

I'm gonna miss GPM when they shelve it for good.

        • +6

          How big's their bum?

      • i personally couldnt stand the UI for GPM

      • Where does deezer fit in this?

    • Thoughts on YouTube Music compared to GPM? I'm sad it will be closing at the end of the year, but if YouTube Music is alright I guess I won't mind switching.

      • It has dark mode?

      • +2

YTM app is all I've used. The Mrs complains about the Indian content all over her GPM app, but too lazy to change apps.

        (Indian VPN sign-up)

    • I've been trying to get my mrs into YT Music since we both have the India YT Premium.. She doesn't want to quit Spotify due to her playlists although we're in spotify family account she was willing to signup to normal spotify sub if I cancelled Spotify Family lol

      • +2

FYI There are plenty of sites that transfer Spotify playlists to YT format.

    • +1

I don't get this. I love spotify and use it even though I have YouTube music through YouTube premium.
The recommendation on YTmusic is always sp pathetic. It's either 'Listen again' methodology.
Also, Spotify UI is much responsive.

    • How are the playlists? Probably the main reason I use Spotify are the huge numbers of curated playlists which are frequently updated and just seem to nail it.

    • Not for me, YTMusic not supported by Garmin

  • +1

Along with using a different email address, need to use a different payment method.

  • +4

Bloody heck. Just joined for 1 month free last night.

  • Can I get this and stack it with the 90 days free from Xbox Game Pass?

    • I'm guessing no. They are both one time offers. Difference is the Xbox Game Pass one has a longer expiry date.

  • +1

    Includes Family?

    • asking the right quesitons!

  • just in time, as my free 3 month tidal is about to run out and barely worked with Apple car play.

  • Interestingly it doesn't seem like you need to validate your email address…

And luckily for me I just had a new bank card sent out. Thanks OP.

  • +5

    6 months won't work without a code

  • +1

it says to verify code on receipt

  • Yep, defiantly need a code. So don't waste your time and save your other email addresses as this will block those emails from future offers?

  • Thanks. Signed up with a new email and got 90 days.

  • Is it easy to cancel after 90 days?

    • +2

Cancel immediately, still get 90 days.

  • +5

Thanks OP. Unemployed now due to Covid, and still want to play music while at home heaps more. Couldn't have come at a better time because I was nearly ready to cancel existing paid premium subscription to reduce my living costs.

  • should this be on deal?

I get the 3 months free offer from Spotify every week for the last 3 years.

    • +1

It should be on deal. I get 3 years every week for the last 3 months.

      • +1

3 years is great and should be a deal.
But 3 months is offered to me every week. It's like they're begging for me to sign up

  • Can you cancel instantly or do you have to wait till end?

  • +7

Handy trick if you want to recycle a gmail account, just put a dot anywhere in the name eg. [email protected] is the same as [email protected] or [email protected]

Gmail will still accept the dot and will forward it to your inbox, spotify will think it's a unique email address.

    • Knowing Spotify, there's probably a ticket in the backlog to fix this loophole.

      • +1

Knowing Spotify it will take them at least three years (if ever) to get to it ;)

    • +9

Another approach is using a + symbol after the name and then anything you like after it as google disregards anything from the plus symbol on.
Eg. [email protected] I would use [email protected]
I do this as the added bonus is you can track any spam emails. Eg if I got an email trying to sell me some random holiday and it was addressed to [email protected] I’d know Spotify has shared my email address.
Ohh and obviously you can use +spotify1, +spotify2 and so one.

      • +3

It's tips like this that make Ozbargain what it is.
        Thank you :)

  • +1

if your considering it just for yourself, you can get an edu address really cheap off ebay and use that to pay for half price too
I bought one and 7 months later still active

    • +1

Does it need to be a edu.au? I only see US edu emails on ebay.

    • +1

Lots of parents actually inherited an edu email recently with homeschool during covid (thanks for this tip from the Samsung Education store deal posted recently). Worth using.

          No love for existing customers

    • +2

Offer not available to users who canceled Premium after April 14, 2020. Offer ends June 30, 2020.

  • Copying all the songs into a new playlist on a new account isn't really feasible when you have thousands and thousands of songs. Unless there is some kind of site or web tool to do it?

    • Go check YouTube there is a trick just drag and drop from one account playlist to another.

  • Between paid and free I can't hear the audio quality jump I'd expect. Yes I'm using good hardware and stupid expensive headphones.

    • +1

You've set the bitrate higher manually?

Settings - Music Quality - set to VERY HIGH

      • +1

Yes, Spotify had some weird compression even on the highest. I mostly listen to vinyl / cd but Spotify has an incredible catalogue, I'd pay if it sounded better.

      • +1

        another good tips! thanks

  • cough mobilism cough cough

  • Does anyone know how do you transfer or share playlist to a new account ? I have been using free 3 months spotify and I have created some playlist and would like to use it for a new account.

    Thanks

Isn't that what OP outlines in his post?

      • Sorry missed that. Cheers
