    This is a good movie.

    • +47

      Nah, I disagree.

      It's a great movie.

      • +40

        Nah, I disagree.

        It's a masterpiece of a movie.

        • +7

          Nah, I disagree.

        • +2

It's entertaining, nowhere near a masterpiece

      • trump disagree on all the above…

    • +3

It was boring for an hour and a bit and then it smacks you unexpectedly and all the different clever layers come through at once. Very few movies make you leave the cinema quietly trying to process it all in your head. Good movie indeed.

      • +1

Upvoted you. Ohh i actually liked the 1st hour. Love the story of the rock and how it changed the family’s lifestyle at the initial stage. The ending bit, was unbearable. I couldn’t look.

      • +2

I thought it was gripping from the very beginning. The movie had so much dialogue but they told it so nicely that it didn't feel boring to me. And I'm usually very easily bored with movie with lots of dialogue. Its probably also because I know there's twist coming, so it was all just building up to the anticipation of that twist.

Honest note, I thought initially it had to do with zombies… lol

  • I love Korean made.

    • Koreaboo?

      • +2

        nah.. i am a socceroo :)

    • Kimchi?

      • meaning?

        • +1

Kimchi essentially half of the Korean diet.

Kimchi (/ˈkɪmtʃiː/; Korean: 김치, romanized: gimchi, IPA: [kim.tɕʰi]), a staple in Korean cuisine, is a famous traditional side dish of salted and fermented vegetables, such as napa cabbage and Korean radish, made with a widely varying selection of seasonings including gochugaru (chili powder), spring onions, garlic, ginger, and jeotgal (salted seafood), etc. It is also used in a variety of soups.(https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kimchi)

  • +5

One of the best movies in recent years (obviously).

  • +4

Available on iTunes in 4k for the same price

    • +6

It's shown as $6.99 buy / $4.99 rent to me.

    • +5

Not sure why you got negged but an extra $1 for 4K is worth it on my books.

    • How does one watch this? Do you need an apple TV or can we stream, cast, etc somehow from our phones and/or smart TV?

      • Any of the above but easiest would be Chromecast or just using the native apps in Android TV/ <insert TV OS>

  • +1

Agree that this is an awesome movie. Has anyone watched the colour one and the B&W one? If you have watched one, is it worth watching the other?

    • +2

i wasn't alive when they screened the B&W one.

    • They are both great, the B&W does give a different experience (maybe a bit more tense) but I would watch the colour one first.

    • +1

I thought the movie was striking and beautifully made and presented.

Didn't know they screened a black an white but I personally wouldn't see a need to see both after seeing one version

  • +1

I'm waiting for the German dub.

    • +7

      username checks out

    • -2

Kinda agree. Not sure why the negs

    • +4

I think the "wow" factor is from the movie showcasing how the "bottom" lived and exposing that world. The movie brought that issue to light (the director is a "socialist"). The cinematography was on point.

The question is: who are the parasites?

I found it hard to side with the Kim family because they were so morally depraved. But I got annoyed with the Park family because of their ignorance.

    • +2

      Nah, I disagree.

    • +6

      Still better than Joker

      • Sure, this is a 10/10, Joker was a 9/10

      • +2

Compared to the trash that comes out of Hollywood these days, I can understand why this movie would beat all those crap movies and win the Oscar. Not saying this movie is a life changing movie for me but I can't remember the last time a decent movie came out of Hollywood.

Joker for example was one of the worst movies I've seen. So bloody boring for the entire length of the movie. It started slow and never got interesting. Compared to crap like that, this movie kept me intrigued. There are nuances you won't follow if you are not a Korean obviously.

    • Agree with you. Good movie but IMHO I think 1917 should have won the best picture at the oscar instead of parasite.

  • +11

For Stan subscribers this is part of the current screening. Stan also do a one month free trial. Lots of Aussie content on Stan too.

  • -2

Very overrated movie! It definitely was by no means a bad movie, but just never understood the hype

    • +1

      hype is hype.

  • +4

    It’s metaphorical.

  • This is all a part of Mega Movie Week which is organised by the Australian Home Entertainment Distributors Association. Discounted movies down to $4.99 across all your favourite Digital Movie market places including Apple TV, Google Play, Fetch, Telstra TV Box Office, Microsoft Store and Playstation Store.

    Get on it!

    • So is it this price on the Microsoft store?

  • +18

It's a bit unfair to be calling a movie 'hype' or 'overrated' because you, personally, didn't enjoy it or didn't think it was that great. Yes, most people watch movies for enjoyment, but if that were my yardstick I'd be calling dozens and dozens of critically acclaimed movies overrated even though I've never studied film and don't know much about film.

    • +1

No, you're right many "critically acclaimed" movies are overrated. The films cost hundreds of millions to make, because a large part of that cost is to buy positive reviews, and buy awards from the industry, and also to do marketing.

You can notice this striking when looking at Rotten Tomatoes between "critic scores" and "audience scores". Most of the time, the critic scores are just rubbish, and the audience scores is more meaningful.

  • Dumb question, but if I bought this, how might I go about watching it on a TV? I have a Hisense so it's not properly an Android TV, but also have an Xbox One. Would it play through that?

    • +2

      Chromecast should do the trick.

    • +2

If you buy a movie on Google Play Movies you can (generally) go to YouTube on Xbox and watch it there.

    • My Hisense TV has the Stan app built in. I think all the inbuilt apps are capable of 4K. You should look into the app for your phone that lets you use as the remote because the buttons Hisense remote are annoyingly clickly.

    • Just open the youtube app on your hisense TV, log into youtube inland go to purchases. Works well.

  • +15

The movie is objectively very good - good characters with award-winning acting, interesting script and dialogue, great cinematography, plot twists that are unpredictable but believable, every box is checked. However this doesn't mean everyone will like it. Some people just prefer watching things such as Spiderman and Twilight…

    • Loll

    • The Lighthouse should have been nominated and won instead

      • +2

The Lighthouse definitely should have been nominated for cinematography. Best Picture though? I'm not so sure.

It was a good movie, but not Best Picture quality.

        • For me, I thought The Lighthouse deserved an oscar more than Parasite

      • They both have in common that you need subtitles.

  • This is nuance that the viewer can't understand in English.

  • Is the movie violent/gory?

    • +3

Depends on how you look at it, it definitely gives you a shocking experience

    • A small part yes. But it's certainly not a violent film for the most part.

    • Rated MA15+ on the Apple TV store.
Labelled ‘comedy’ on the Google Play store.
So it seems you can’t really define the movie clearly (and by Western/Hollywood standards). But upon its runtime, the tone and nature does introduce the violent and somewhat gory parts appropriately. No cheap jump scares from my memory.

  • -7

Parasite a whole lot of Wu..Ha!

  • Good movie

  • +9

    Respect!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • And the award for the best picture goes to

  • +1

Great movie. I dunno why its listed under comedy. Definitely not something I'd watch for laughs

    • Parasite is very genre-fluid. Probs “thriller” would be a more appropriate category if you only had to pick one. But then again, it is satirical comedy with a thrilling plot… hm..

  • I love Google Rewards.

    • +1

What’s the trigger for them? I used to get heaps but haven’t had any in ages. They get enough $ out of me in YouTube Premium and occasional Google Play purchases.

      • Tap the Google Playstore on the top right.

  • I heard a symptom of Covid is having no taste, those that didn't like this movie better get checked

  • People are looking at the comedy tag from a conventional perspective. Its a black comedy, similar to In Bruges. You don't have to have a laugh a minute for it to be a good comedy.

  • Loved this movie so much. Ending drums in the whole last 45 min. Hope director does something else like this like that other guy who did get out and now doing those interesting types of horror

  • +2

It wasn't awful but it wasn't great either. There I said it.

    • +2

I'm sort of with you on this.
There was a stretch in the movie that I found boring, it was maybe 20 minutes too long. The rest of it I enjoyed, especially the detail in each frame, reminded me of a Wes Anderson movie

    • +1

I was shocked when I saw that this movie received so many Oscars. I almost left the cinema at the 3/4 of the movie, because I was so bored. Well, I guess we are all different people with different taste in films and we have to respect that.

  • Can't wait for his next movie.

    • -5

I heard it might be about some virus. A pandemic. From Choina.

  • +1

Do people still buy movies "to own"? Serious question (Keep in mind I don't even Netflix and chill, I'm more of an outdoorsy and study-for-fun type of person).

    • Yes, I do. I still buy most of them on physical media, too, although I also occasionally buy digital ones when they're cheap (like this Google sale which has a LOT of good movies for $5-$10). Netflix doesn't have every movie, and the movies that are there don't stay there forever (except the Netflix Originals ones). So if I want to be able to watch one of my favourite movies when I want then I need to own my own copy, because Netflix etc could remove it tomorrow.

    • certainly not on platforms like this, but of course people who like movies have some sort of collection. Netflix is mostly garbage most of the time, and the stuff you want to watch comes around about as often as Haley's comet.

    • Yes, every now and then I buy to own. Google Play have regular sale and you can find some great movies in HD for under $10. I also got Netflix but as others point out, with Netflix it can get boring to sift through soo much of junk to be able to find something good to watch. Your own digital collection complements very well with a streaming service like Netflix.

  • Rented for the same price couple of months ago, bad luck

  • No 4K?

  • +1

Watched many movies by this actor, Song Kang Ho, many great ones. <Parasite> is the second best, after <The Attorney>.

  • That's how much I spent on the movie ticket, whilst I was on my European vacay. I find these single movies rather pricey, when Netflix is around $15 per month and I still get to enjoy them on my lame 42 inch smart TV.

  • Watched this movie recently and recommend. Thanks op

  • Is that an English version or English subtitles only?

    • +1

English subtitles only (over Korean dialogue).

No official dubbed version exists, if ever.

    • +1

I don’t really understand why some people prefer watching English dubbed versions of foreign movies. To me, dubbed versions just ruin the essence of emotions portrayed by the actors.
