Secure715 2.4″ Digital Video Baby Monitor

Oricom’s Secure715 is the perfect entry level video baby monitor.

Including a 2.4″ colour display with zoom and a versatile pivot mounting camera, this unit will ensure you are able to keep a constant eye on your child.

The SC715 also features baby friendly night vision, parent talk back, 5 soothing lullabies, digital volume control and the option to add up to four camera units to the system.

CU715 sold separately for $96 so I ended up purchasing two sets.

  • Neg for falsely advertising this product as secure. I checked the manual. There is no authentication.

Every fricking baby monitor under the sun is too afraid to put authentication on their wireless communication. This is not acceptable and needs to change. It is not funny when a stranger starts talking to your kids at night.

    • We don't have internet-connected wifi setup at home so hope this would be ok? I heard those internet-connected IP cameras could be hacked.

      • It'll help. Anyone with an oricom product could connect. Unless the protocol is standard between manufactures but I don't know. Look, your chances of jerks/weirdos is slim. It just pisses me off when all that's required is a physical button push to pair devices.. And they don't implement this.

I've had people play porn over my Bluetooth before.. On a new av receiver (I had assumed Bluetooth would be secure out of the box). There are knobs out there.

  • been using facetime to monitor our baby. too easy =)

  • Anyone not in a hurry, Aldi had the Secure710 which (despite being a lower number) is a better monitor with a bigger screen - for $99 (normally $249) a few months back. Not sure when it will come back but this doesn't seem very cheap to me.

    • Won't happen for another year.

      • Thought that might be the case but they definitely do multiple sales for certain things like baby, camping, gardening etc but maybe certain special buys within those sales are still yearly….

Also I lied, it was the 740 and it was in January (just checked).

        • That was a better bargain as I saw second hand 740 on gumtree selling for $150

        • Yeah agree, that was a good price. I have a friend at Aldi and they mentioned that it won't be happening until the same time next year (at the earliest). So I'm on the lookout for a similarly priced 740, or 895 :)

    • Yeah we got one. Good unit.

  • Slightly off topic but I am thinking about purchasing some type of standard wifi security camera to use as a baby monitor, since it can have a second life when no longer required.
is this a suitable solution? I expect you need one that has some type of auto-connect / alarm when audio is detected?

  • I have an Oricom baby monitor, wouldn't buy one again, picture quality/screen is average and night vision is very average, battery life is terrible now a few years in and it has weird annoyances like randomly going out of range without being moved or touched then chirping to alert you i.e. waking you up for nothing, and then being fine a second later.
