  • I'm good for hand protection, but just wanted to say a big thanks for the training shoes deal you put up last time. They've been great for training at home without proper mats!

    • Nice one, glad to hear.

  • ideal for people with short fingers.
Michael Jackson fans..a spare in case.

These Taekwondo gloves will go great with the speed/radar gun that I bought on here the other day.

This is a great deal for Storm Troopers…

I should have posted on May the 4th.

  • Is there any particular difference between these and the usual MMA gloves? Perhaps less padding or something?

    • +1

MMA gloves usually are 4-6 ounces of padding for competition, they come in a couple different styles but just at a glance they usually have less thumb coverage then these but more wrist support.

    • +1

Usually taekwondo gloves have a piece of PU covered dense foam across the palm so when you clench your fist its more comfortable, but they're not really designed to give a beating.

Functionally they just protect your finger bones when someone's roundhouse lands on your hand instead of the shield. It doesn't give a huge amount of wrist support either

So "Hand protectors" is really a very accurate description.

  • "Hand protectors" …So, pretentious gloves?

  • Thanks for the info guys, much appreciated. Been wanting to replace my MMA gloves for a while now so thought I'd ask. Guess I'll wait for a better deal.

No idea why someone would down vote you for that. Here's a plus to balance it out for you.

What are you using them for? I've had two mma fights and rarely used competition gloves for either of the training camps, mostly used 12 ounce thai style boxing gloves for striking, Very occasionally used "hybrid" mma sparring gloves for specific drills and only did grappling with the little mma gloves to get used to the feel a month out from fights

Haha yeah no idea why the down vote…meh…

I haven't done any MMA fights myself but we like to use them for sparring while doing groundwork so we can throw hands and grapple (controlled of course). While the MMA gloves I have are not broken or anything, the PU leather is flaking off them pretty badly and leaves both my training partners and myself with a ton of black flaky shit all over us and on the floor XD

Fair enough, we often just go for open handed slaps etc. Punching on the ground's always tricky, Big gloves ruin the grappling but hard to punch with any real intent with the little gloves.

Not sure for 4oz MMA gloves at the moment, I went top of the line a couple years ago when I spotted a pricing error that that the seller honoured so only have had the one pair. I have a pair of RDX branded hybrid gloves though which are OK, they're open palmed like an MMA glove but have extra padding over the knuckles so in theory more like a boxing glove level of protection. They are OK but I wouldn't buy them at RRP

          • @Insidious: Yeah I agree with the tricky punching on the ground. We more or less like to do it to let people know when they arent protecting themselves properly or not holding position properly. Nothing too hard, more of a wakeup call XD.

I've used gloves like the RDX ones you linked once and I personally liked them but never did use them for groundwork. Might be worth a look, thanks!
