I want to know if people didn't think they would be eligible (due to eligibility criteria) for JobSeeker and ended up receiving the payment. Also, why did you think you wouldn't be eligible?
What was your experience with Centrelink like as a customer? How was their communication, could you reach them on the phone without long wait? Did you end up going into their offices.

Bargain of the century for them.
Thats before Tax. It ends up only a little bit more than JobSeeker anyway
Exactly.
The costs to manage and monitor different payment rates would have been a logistical nightmare and cost far more than just giving those unlucky enough to earn under the average minimum wage, the average minimum wage.

Not really. We do the exact same thing for taxes and other benefits.
The government saw this as a massive opportunity to build rapport with the nation, particularly young people or low-end earners. Free money buys a lot of votes.
Jobseeker is taxed too.
Not for every one. If you receive income under the tax free threshold it's not taxed. But for a person with no employment and receiving Jobseeker then there's no tax because it's under the tax free threshold to begin with. And the Coranavirus supplement ($550 supplement on top of Jobseeker) is not taxable.
But if they were only on a couple of hours from the beginning of the financial year to the start of the Jobkeeper payments they will get most of the tax refunded.
That's why I just nominated 10% tax, it's about right for that amount and for this time of the year. It is lower than my regular tax bracket.
I applied for JobSeeker since I have been stood down and my employer is not eligible for Jobkeeper. I initially got denied, so I walked into a Centrelink office and they saw I answered a question wrong, so she changed it and I was approved on the spot. I haven't received any payments yet because I am doing some Woolworths work at the moment and am getting about $600 a week.
You would be better off to reduce one of your shift and earn just below $500 a week in order to get the most money out of centrelink.
I know, I worked that out fairly early.
But I don't really want too. I prefer to earn my money than get it handed too me. And yes I know that I could do less work and get more money, or even do no work and get the same amount of money as doing 20 hours a week, but it just rubs me the wrong way. I've never gotten any money from Centrelink before and I would prefer to be self-sufficient than rely on a handout. That's probably stupid male pride talking.
Also working makes me get my far arse out of bed and doing something rather than sitting on my computer all day.

Shhh dude, don't you know that makes you literally a Nazi who hates poor people? Don't let the SJW mob hear you brag about personal responsibility, they'll slam you. The government is supposed to pay for everything and you shouldn't do any work at all!
I thought it's pro-rated? Even if he reduces below $500, doesn't that mean he'll get very minimum sum anyway?
P.S. I still have my job fortunately, so have no idea about this whole thing. rather just asking out of curiosity.
I applied directly on Centrelink website and got paid within 2 weeks of applying. Never spoke to a single person in person or over the phone.
Hey Koala can you pm for a little help with this?? Thanks
I don't recall giving my bank details at any point… do they ask for that after the approval notification?
You have to give them your bank details because they need to check your savings balance. That is also the account they send the payout to.
Did you have to complete the Job Seeker Snapshot / Jobactive before the claim is accepted?
I want to know if we've got any of those people who were doing a couple of hours a week casual for over 12 months but are now on $1500 a fortnight.
