Good Mattress Factory Outlets in Sydney?

After reading the guidelines in the Mattress Underground forums (https://www.themattressunderground.com/mattress-forum/genera…), my takeaway was basically stay away from the big brands like Sealy and Sleepmaker as they use inferior quality materials and are not very good at disclosing details about their product.

The recommendation was to go to different local mattress outlets to test and ask questions about mattresses. I tried looking for recommendations on the website (and Ozbargain) but unfortunately, could not find anything or any good suggestions.

Does anyone have any good recommendations on mattress factory outlets in Sydney that are good value and reliable?

I don't really trust mattresses in a box and will probably avoid brands like Koala etc., esp given mixed opinions on their returns policy.

Thanks!

I bought my mattress from Dial A Bed in Rhodes 2 years ago. I'm not sure if the outlet is still there. They have a range of mattresses for you to test out.

  • Try https://www.rockdalemattressfactory.com.au they're located in Padstow.

Ok well i am not sure where they are getting their info from
but Sleepmaker in particular are not "inferior" products they are in fact 100% Australian made and nothing in the mattress is inferior.
    Steel is: One Steel
    Foam: Is Dunlop Foams
Bed is manufactured in Melb, NSW or Auckland

Sealy Mattresses are made in Australia also and they use top quality steel and fabrics.

I suspect the poster of the article linked has a reason behind pushing people away.

Brands that use below quality materials: KingKoil, Maddison, any Mattress that can be sold under $500 and manufactured in china, Most in house brands, KingsDown

Sealy and Sleepmaker are actually your best chance at getting a high quality mattress if buying in Australia

(Disclaimer: I work in the industry and can personally vouch for the brands mentioned above)

    • Hmm interesting. Given you exp in the industry, what mattresses would you recommend in the $1000 range? Some of Sealy and Sleepmaker's products are priced far too high for us.

Honestly at that price you can pick up a decent Coil Sealy or Sleepmaker.

Sleepmaker M101 mattresses is around the $800 mark on sale and are a good all round Aussie Made coil mattress.
If you wanted a pocket Spring (better in regards to partner disturbance) you would probably be looking at around 1100-1200 as PS are traditionally more expensive to manufacture.

Chinese made mattresses will always be cheaper and in a few rare cases they are not bad overall but some really are bottom of the barrel and are priced as such.

        • Thanks mate - super helpful. Other than those brands, are you pretty much against anything else?

@raquethead111: i honestly do not know everyones brand, but most "in house" brands are Chinese made and come with a huge mark up which is better for the seller than the buyer.
I am so lucky i work in a store that does not pay comms so i can sell the right mattress for the customer not the one that pays me the most kick back

  • I had this mattress delivered (free) from Chipping Norton in April, 2014. I am not connected to them in any way; I have to say that because I've never loved a mattress more in my entire life and I tend to gush about it offline. If I could save it in a fire, I would not hesitate.

The prices are unreal. My expectations were fairly low because I paid $229 for a double mattress. It isn't even the bottom of the line mattress available.

They claim they're medium-firm but I would call it a solid firm, and I'm a fan of firm mattresses. I think (but wasn't traumatised enough to remember details) I woke up sore for the first night or two (too many years on a really saggy mattress) but it was smooth sailing after that. I am completely truthful when I share that I say "I love you" to my mattress a few times a week, 6 years after purchasing it. There is no sag on either side of the bed and it's not much less firm than when I received it, which is amazing because my husband and I are not even close to tiny sized people. ;)

Please note I contacted them on Facebook and the products are made in China.

          • @fozzie: Thanks fizzier. Eyeballz seems somewhat too enthusiastic about the product for me to take it seriously.
