Home UPS Recommendation

Hello,

I'm after 2 UPS units to be used in separate areas of the house in the event of a power outage.

-One UPS will be used for standard FTTN NBN Modem/Router such as the one supplied by Belong or an TP-Link Archer VR1600V (approximately 30W of power draw I believe, 12V 2.5A).

-Another UPS will be used for CCTV system plus additional standard modem/router (8 POE Cameras, 1 NVR with 8 port POE switch and HDD approximately of 80-100W of power draw I believe).

Would prefer both UPS to have the ability for user replaceable batteries for future servicing.

Thanks!

Sadly not enough state solar battery rebates here

  • How long do you want them to be able to keep the devices on for?

    • 30 mins or an hour

  • I've been really happy with https://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/p/cyberpower…

Keeps my modem, switch (POE with 4 cameras), router, wifi AP, DS918+ NAS all running for about 45-60 minutes before shutdown. Has the ability to safely shutdown the NAS as the battery is getting low.

Got it for $113 from Officeworks with a pricematch back in October.

EDIT: Battery is replaceable - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ZWy-bG3wZ4
EDIT2: You may want to check your actual power usage from those units. I'd be very suprised if the modem/router used 30w under load. And same with your camears

    • I'm looking to purchase the same device. Where did you pricematch?

Honestly can't remember. I think it was an ebay 20% off sale. I price matched over the phone.

    I have the above -

RT-Ac88U, jgs524pe switch, 8 POE cams, NAS, optiplex server, yealink w52p - 60 mins on battery.

It is worth it for me - I have several power interruptions per year particularly over summer but none usually as long as an hour.

  • According to the APC UPS selector, 100w for 1hr can be done by the APC Back-UPS Pro 900 while only running at ~19% capacity.

It's a pretty light load, so realistically you could get away with something much cheaper around the 400VA mark for a few hundred dollarydoos without sacrificing too much.

  • Op, I have the Cyberpower pure sine wave UPS. Works well for me. U may wish to consider this.

If you just want to backup a 12V device, it is better to buy a dedicated 12V output ups such as this one: https://www.ple.com.au/Products/628830/Power-Shield-DC-Mini-…
Powering up 12V devices via a normal UPS is not as efficient as you are converting from AC to DC to charge the UPS battery and then DC back to AC to power your 12V adaptors to then step down to 12V again to feed the actual device.

Router also hardly draw more than 2.5A at 12V. Maybe more like 0.5A or less. The Powershield one that I linked to should last a hour if not more.

    Just a thought.
