[NSW, SA, VIC, WA, QLD] WD 1TB My Passport External SSD - USB Type C - $139 Pickup @ Officeworks

1620

Officeworks has dropped the price of these again, might be able to snag one if you weren't swayed by the Amazon/JB pricing.

Seems to be clearance stock with pickup only but looks to be a few dotted around at various stores.

Does not appear to be in stock in some states.

I could have purchased it from Officeworks but I went to the local Good Guys store and made them price match from $359 down to $139 - the look on salesperson's face was priceless :D They even called Officeworks to confirm if it was a price-error. Lol!
Anyways, avenged TGG's Google Hub Max fiasco as a tribute to our OzB community, haha :)

    • I’m planning to do the same. Could you pls share your receipt so it’s be easier :) thank you.

    • even showing out of stock?

      • +1

It was 'Available' at the time of my pricematch mate, so it'll be trickier/impossible to price-match if it's out of stock state-wide at your place.

      • The good guys shows no stock as well?

        • TGG will only price match if it's in-stock and available locally (or for delivery after adding postage) on Officeworks website. They will not accept screenshots/flyers and will check on their own computer/call Officeworks.
So, in summary, even if TGG has got hundreds of them in stock, it wouldn't matter as they simply won't price match if Officeworks is sold out :( You might be bit late to the party mate!

    • Not even going to attempt with HN and their get out of jail clause 'significantly below RRP' which they do on a 'case by case' basis to get out of any price match

      • +2

Yea but if you show us the receipt then they’re gonna have to price match. It’s ok if you don’t wanna share tho. I thought this was a sharing community

        • Sorry I didnt see this request, and thankfully cheapbot came through for you. However Id be interested to know if anyone got a HN price match as even with a receipt they just use the 'significantly below RRP' to get out of having to match.

Please share your receipt so we can all price match at Good Guys. Thanks mate

      Good try haha!

  • FITZROY (VIC) doesn't have - just rang. moowww :(

Not sure if they actually have stock but Keswick and Croydon SA both had them on the shelves (resisted as i don't really have a use for one haha)

    • Marion also had 3 on the shelves. I resisted, no current need for it. Plus you can get more storage for the same price, it’s just not as fast.

  • Would this be worth buying (and the extra effort) to be used as an internal drive for my old Vaio desktop or PS4?

    • As far as I know, internal SSDs are generally cheaper than portable SSDs. Probably better keep it and buy another internal SSD instead when there's a deal.

Assuming WD hasn't changed it since Tweaktown reviewed it, it is an m.2 SATA Sandisk X400 SSD inside. Right now, due to weak AUD, you cannot get a 1TB SATA3 SSD at this price point, let alone a 1TB m.2 SATA SSD.

Problem is, from a strict OZB point of view, we have seen 1TB NVMe class m.2 SSDs around $155 mark before and while most people really don't need NVMe SSDs, we all tend to want one.

Since it is an m.2, you cannot use it in PS4 as an internal drive. You can use it as an external drive, but it will be limited to USB 3.0/3.1 gen 1. Well, technically, you could find a m.2/SATA to SATA adapter/converter and with that you could use it in PS4 as an internal drive.

Generally, USB 3.1 gen 2 external SSDs use m.2/SATA SSDs so this one is no exception. Price wise, it is cheaper than typical USB 3.0 / SATA3 based SSDs.

      • This one is a WD Blue 3D, it's BKVX. BK3E is the older Sandisk X400.

Had plenty of "display boxes" on the shelves but checkout lady confirmed that they were out of stock and another customer (ozbargainer) had been in earlier asking about the same drive. She said she couldn't order it in whilst the warehouse has no stock but confirmed that it's not listed as a clearance item.

As another poster mentioned, it's likely a price error as the 1tb costs the same as 256gb. The 512gb costs even more.

Either way, good job to those that have one in hand.

      • +1

Yes looks like it. The price for the 1TB is now $239.

        • good on em for honouring the pricing error.
let me ask my google home max…. no wait i don't have one :(

  • No stock in Melbourne central and Northern and North East suburbs.

  • It’s so tiny… I was not expecting it to be so small. I mean I get why it is… but still.

    *oops i didnt see https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/8674768/redir

  • Just picked one up from JB hi-fi Perth store, although online stored showed no stock they had few. The best part was to see the guys face when I asked for a price beat at that price 😂

    • How did you get it at $139? The price online on the OW website is $239 atm and still says no stock available

      • Morning it was still showing $139, looks like it's back to $239

  • Is this a NVMe drive inside?

    • Yeah, thats about the normal price. 500gb hovers around the low 100s. 1TB at 200ish.

  • If anyone in Perth wants one, Officeworks just emailed me to say my online order (from 2.5 weeks ago) is ready for pickup! I've already got one from instore.
