Depends on what you're doing.
Gaming + streaming/transcoding/etc get the 3900x.
Metric ton of PCIE I/O and RAM capacity for workstation level projects get the 2920X.
It had a better price before.

I don't see any reason why not going for 3900x?
It only makes sense if you're already bought into the TR4 chipset, or if you need the additional PCIe lanes.
PCIe 4.0 on 3900x which is same as doubling the lane counts is quite nice though
Doubling the bandwidth is not equivalent to having more PCIe lanes.
@Diji1: Not quite the same, but effectively achieves same thing for most consumers in this price bracket
Threadripper if you want full pci express bus from motherboard, like 3-4 gpus etc
