Not only is FTA tv absolute crap, you can already watch all the past stuff with Freeview.

    • Someone needs to embrace the 21st century 😊

    • Wow I feel like I just went back in time. That was amazing!

  • Google best tv series or top 50 tv series something like that.
    Then torrent them and watch

    Ja'mie: Private School Girl

  • That is a shiteload of shows you have gone through. I hope you're not my neighbour sucking up all those internets.

    • +1

But this person pays for it. Why can't they us it?

It's a different issue if this person was your flatmate and you're on a really bad connection.

      • No problem.

I still hope it isn't being congested. :P

Kinda like a neighbour taking a huge dump and clogging the pipes. It's their god given right to evacuate the chambers, I still hope it doesn't affect me.

        • I don't think the internet 'pipe' is narrow enough for that to happen.

          • @ankor: Wait, the NBN is that good?

            • @[Deactivated]: Dude, it was that good pre-nbn anyway. What are you going on about?

              • @ankor: I'm on about my sub 5mbps connection during peak. It was more or less the same pre NBN.

Also, not claiming OP is doing anything wrong. Just thought we'd clear that up.

                • @[Deactivated]: Unfortunately, seems like you are in a weird black spot.

                  • @ankor: Hmm, didn't know people of African descent use more internet. :P

    Jane the Virgin

    • I have watched Jane the Virgin, forgot to include it on the list. It's great show!

This is the fall of Western civilisation, losers sitting around watching marginally entertaining garbage while there is starving and suffering and wars and you/we couldn't give a shit.

All right, I'm ready for the negs, hit me! Hit me dam you!

    • The fall of Western civilization actually IS caring about other countries which have no relation to them. Just imagine how much equipment/PPE to deal with coronavirus we could buy with all those millions wasted sent as "foreign aid" to Phillipines and other countries!
The real fall is, people have all this freetime (especially during quarantine), and instead of choosing to improve themselves or get new skills to be better in the current really competitive job market, majority chooses Uber Eats and Netflix. That is the real downfall. Becoming dependant on the gubment for free money^!

^Free money that your children, grand children and grand-grand children will have to pay off with increased taxes.

      • +1

Australia spends 0.27% of its budget on foreign aid, it's not stopping us from buying anything whatsoever…

Nor does their original point make any sense either - Western civilization was built on exploiting the rest of the world, how could this be the "downfall"?

        • 0.27% of gross income of 176 B is 476 Million dollars! That's nothing to you!? That would pay for…

CALLUM999: It's not stopping us from buying anything whatsoever…

3.3 million Netflix accounts! Not a good definition of "anything whatsoever"

          • @lew380: It's embarrassingly low (well, for me who cares about human welfare - I'm sure for you caring for anyone without an Australian passport is nonsensical), but I don't recall saying it's nothing?

I very clearly stated that it doesn't stop us buying anything whatsoever… If we needed $476m then that amount could be raised instantly.

Whether you agree with it or not, giving that money away hasn't prevented Australia buying a single piece of PPE. If you think it has, then I think I'll have a more productive conversation with the brick wall to my right.

    • +1

Lol, instead of watching Netflix we should fix wars that have been going on for centuries in countries that have nothing to do with us. Right… What have you done to stop the bloodshed?

      • Your a bit off topic mate, reign it in…

        • +1

"You're" I believe is the word you're looking for. I also believe it was you who went off topic champ.

          • @brendanm: Also “rein” it in. It’s so rare to see that word spelt correctly.

      • +1

        Community S05E07.

Britta calls her former comrades in protest sell outs for having careers and wealth. They in turn point out that she is at attendance at a charity event they've hosted and ask Britta how many mouths other than her own she has actually fed.

        Cool cool cool.

        • How very fitting!

    • I gave you a plus cos I'm out of negs lol. But I kinda agree with you anyway!

  • +1

Unsubscribe from Netflix, subscribe to Stan. Change back and forth every one or two months. I've been doing this for the last six months and it's working well for me.

Sometimes I get upgraded to 4K for the price of SD when rejoining (for one month).

    • +1

Will I lose my watchlist after unsubscribing?

      • +3

Nope, you will not lose your watchlist after unsubscribing.

  • +1

It you liked Narcos maybe try.

(El patron del mal) based on Pablo Escobar also (Surviving Escobar Alias JJ) based on his hitman you wont be dissapointed. :)

  • +1

    Shooter
    Dare Devil
    The Punisher
    Iron Fist
    Luke Cage
    Jessica Jones
    The Rain
    Line of Duty

    • Iron fist, where a dude goes to some magic temple filled with warrior monks and returns after years as study with the attitude of a whiny two year old.

That killed it for me and the poor main actor was very badly miscast & not given sufficient time to train his stunt work.

  • Cartoons

  • +4

Didn't see any mention of the following Netflix titles:

    The Ballad of Buster Scruggs
    Godless
    Living with Yourself
El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie
    The OA
    GLOW
Love, Death & Robots - although like Black Mirror these shorts were also a little hit and miss.

If you switch over to Stan:

    Deadwood
    11.22.63
    Black Monday
    Spaced
This is England - multiple series plus a movie
    Sweetbitter
    Southcliffe
    I am the Night
    Unreal

    • This is England - multiple series plus a movie

an absolute must watch movie and series.

      • Not sure why they didn't put the '90 series on Stan.

There's a 2008 movie (produced between the movie and first series) called Somers Town written by Shane Meadows (writer and director of all series and movie) with Thomas Turgoose (who played Shaun in TIE). Story is unrelated but a similar slice of life feel. It's on youtube but unfortunately 240p.

        • hey thanks for that. really liked the feel of how this was screened so will look it up

        • also…thanks for the ideas. Seems there are a lot of my favourites here so am gonna check your other choices as well

  • +5

Start playing video games. You will have a never ending supply of entertainment. Even if you stayed at home for 3 years straight you would not finish all the AAA title games in the market.

  • +3

    The Good Place
    Community (S1-3)
    Brooklyn 99
    Dirk Gently’s holistic detective agency
    Jessica Jones S1
    Train to Busan
    Violet Evergarden (this is fantastic)
    Your name

    • Community season 5 is good.

Dan Harmon returns. He actually knows what a story needs and how to unfold it.

Season 4 is like a soup with too many ingredients all thrown in at the same time and set to simmer from the get go. No amount of expensive herbs and garnish can save that dish.

    • I second The Good Place! Would also recommend Flowers

  • +1

    Extracurricular.

  • +1

    Pine Gap

    • +1

I have watched Pine Gap, great show!

  • +2

Cannot recommend Money Heist (La casa de papel) enough! Easily one of the best shows I have watched

    • Is there any way to watch this with subtitles instead of the god awful dubbing?

      • +2

Yes, by turning on the subtitles and turning off the dubbing.

        • Great, as soon as I've seen shows with dubbing I just turn them off, can't stand it. Will do this.

      • Don't you just change it in the menu when the episode starts?

      • +1

Just turn on subtitles and change audio to Spanish or whatever

  • +3

Not sure how well it fits but I've been watching Ricky gervaises's After Life recently. Black comedy. It's excellent if you're a massive cynic (profanity) like me.

    • Thanks, I enjoyed The Office, will give After Life a try.

      • Good stuff! It's definitely a bit sadder (follows him after his wife died so… Ya know ) but it's a lot more mature and well put together than the office

  • +3

Peaky blinders takes a few episodes to build the season, after the first few episodes it becomes quite interesting.

  • +1

Since you don't like Peaky Blinders there is no hope for you. However, I second Line of Duty, Bodyguard , The Fall and After Life.

  • +2

Giri Haji (it's a BBC production)
Chief of Staff (Korean with subtitles, if you like political shows)
And there's tons of non-English TV series which are too many to recommend

  • Vote with your wallet

  • +1

    Sense8

a little slow but develops really well

  • +2

Self Made - the Madam CJ Walker story
    the Christmas Prince movies
    Always Be My Maybe movie
To All The Boys I loved Before (I think) movie - and there's a sequel!
    Princess Swap movie
Dirty John - about a woman who falls in love with a killer con artist.
    Unbelievable

  • +1

Bojak Horseman, Tho OA, Community, GLOW, the BodyGuard, Inside No 9 (if it is still on Netflix)

  • I wish I had that problem :(

  • You. hand out a lot of 9's and 10's yet turn down Mindhunter? Give it another go.

    • I'm sure it's a great show, I just wish the main lead is not named Holden Ford. Definitely will give another go.

  • +5

The IT Crowd is now on Netflix

  • +3

If you havent watched any Korean ones yet on Netflix, I fully do recommend doing so.
Parasite is a fantastic movie on Netflix if you havent watched it yet.
Enjoyed Kingdom and Itaewon Class very much.

If you're into Amazon, there's always

    Upload
    Good Omens
    The Tick (original and remake)
Battlestar Galactica (and be sure to watch the mini-series first - it's there too)
The Man in the High Castle
    Hunters
    Supernatural
    Jack Ryan
    The Expanse
    American Gods
    Carnival Row
    The Boys

    That's for starters

    • +1 to this comment. Get Amazon Prime. I paid $60 for a year so it’s half the price of Netflix.

      Jack Ryan is awesome!

  • Try skillshare or brilliant lol. Enough of these Netflix infinite loops.

  • +4

    Some good suggestions for Amazon Prime on here but no mention of;
    - Start-up
    - The Widow
    - The marvelous Mrs maisel
    - The night manager

    enjoyed them all

  • +1

Hollywood! Just binged it last night- Was great!

  • +2

See if you can acquire Succession. It’s not on Netflix or Stan but shouldn’t be hard to find online. Easily my show of 2020, behind Ozark and Better Call Saul.

I agree with whoever said Devs as well - it’s like no other show.

  • +2

Resurrection Ertugrul, 5 seasons, 300hours …slow start but you get hooked.

I'm partial to a comedy series, or something that's a black comedy. Some of my faves from Netflix are:

    The Good Place
    Brooklyn 99
    Arrested Development
    After Life
Russian Doll - highly underrated imo, can't wait to see where they go for Season 2
Dead to Me - season 2 drops on Friday
    Orange is the New Black
    Good Girls
    Jane the Virgin
    Santa Clarita Diet
    The Inbetweeners

The Stranger is a great drama/thriller too
and You was an easy watch and an interesting thriller

And Parks and Recreation is one of my all time favourite shows, but it's on Stan I think

  • +1

Sign up to Amazon Prime free account and smash through The Boys and Upload.

    Cable Girls

    • Great show, if you enjoy Cable Girls, Grand Hotel is a must. It also starred Jon Gonzalez.

Pick up anime. There's a wealth of shows, and so many genres within.
Great ones that are just amazing shows in general often suggested to newcomers to the medium are: Attack on Titans. Death Note. Cowboy Bepop. Parasyte. One Punch Man. Hunter x Hunter. Code Geass. Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood. Boku no Pico.
