  • The unlimited phone is a bit too expensive at $15. It should be $10 at the most.

IMO an appallingly poor offer from a company with a deservedly high reputation. Yes I do mean appalling.

Hope this no thought offer is not a sign of things to come.

  • $49 for 12Mbs download. That's pretty lame

    • But this is for seniors. It's not great, but hey.. they can always reverse mortgage their house, you know, the one with intense capital gains, if they can't afford to scrape together an extra $10 per month.

It's actually the younger generations that are hard done by.

I say this as a member of the 'First to get screwed generation' (post-housing boom followed by GFC redundancy) that is currently choosing to support the health of old people (to my own immediate family's detriment) and also buying from small businesses who need the money. Because I am better off than others my age.

Get a bloody grip mate. You're here whinging about what, $10/month. Bigger issues in life than that.

  • Flip cost less at $44.90

    $47.85 with casual phone.

  • Speed is too low. Even for Elderly couple 12/1 is simply not enough.

Give them 25/5 at least. Might as pay $69 vs $65

To those people saying the speed is too slow:
My oldie is using 12/1, she literally just uses it for phone and the broadband speed is good enough for the Foxtel iQ4 box.

  • I guess a lot of it boils down to expectations. Until a few months ago, we were on 5/1 adsl2, and all was well. And we were paying $50pm. We could watch iview and sbsOnDemand but yeah, HD wasn’t on the cards.
In the meantime, my 86yo FiL is on cable which will soon become defunct. I think he’s paying $30(?)pm for 100gb (of which he uses about 15gb). Looking at options. 4g comes to mind, as does this though paying more for a slower service is poor value

  • heres me thinking this is great! My Italian grandmother who just uses her home phone, does not have internet, she watches her RAI international via satellite.

Is FORCED off the copper network because NBN is here, all she wants to do is talk on the phone?

  • +1

Grandmother is on this. 12/1 is dog sh!t. She had 24Mbps because she was right next to the exchange with vdsl2.

This has always been this garbage price. $49 for being old + 12/1 speeds? It should be $29 in 2020.

The misconception is because she’s #boomer that she doesn’t watch Netflix. She streams all, day, long.

The fact this isn’t minimum offering from NBN at 25/5Mbps.

The only reason she’s on this is because to get a home phone the next is like $79-99

Aussie is great. But the NBN 12 plan is a scam.

My parents are on the Tpg nbn12 plan, same speeds as this but it’s $60/month. Not big users, mainly reading the news, email, occasional YouTube video and WhatsApp video calls. Speeds are fine for what they need. For them it’s about price and this saves them $10/month so it’s a win.

  • I got this deal 2 months ago and im very under the age of 60. Its not posted online but you can ask for it over the phone. good while on a budget but other providers like tangerine have 25/5 for the same price for the first 6 months

    • It’s now posted online and appears to be available to everyone.

  • Flip are as cheap or cheaper and you don't have to be old.

$40 for 50gb, phone inc local & national calls on Westnet

    https://www.westnet.com.au/internet-product/broadband/nbn/pl…

Usual Aussie cheer squad have +1 this without even looking at it.

    • That's awful.

      • +1

It's clever. 50gb meets the intended target audience. Thus it's cheaper because there's no jerks abusing it.

Ok, 80gb wouldn't have gone astray.

remember when Telstra Adsl was like 250mb month!

  • -2

    My deals better

49.95 includes 28 gig mobile (no lock-in) with unlimited data Telstra air.

Nice. Hell I can go $20, but that's 10gig unlimited.

And when my data runs out still free access.

But honestly looking at the fttp box unused seems odd ahh.

    • how do I get your deal?

  • $49 for 12/1 doesn't seem like much of a deal. I suppose the only things that would matter to a very basic user would be: can you send/receive emails and probably also can you use Skype/video calling services. Is 12/1 enough to have a decent Skype convo?

  • Can anyone recommend the best 25/5 plan for a senior with home phone?

So far the best seems to be ABB for $69.

I'm thinking they get this 12/1 and if they have problems streaming 1080 Netflix then they can upgrade?

They don't even own a 4k TV so I don't think the need of 4k streaming would be a problem.

  • boomers need landlines so Ahpoo can call them

  • It appears to be available to anyone now, not just seniors.

    • how?

      • Sign up online. 12/1. Wait. My mistake, same plan is there but it’s $59/month. Sorry.

  • Has anyone else noticed that streaming Foxtel uses a ship load more data than Netflix or Prime? I guess they don't compress it. Movies on Foxtel are often 10 GB+! It usually works out to 1 GB per 10 mins of movie.
