  Cant complain for free. But i skimmed the book (I work in a related area), personally wouldnt recommend this book as a starting point. It kind skims into various topics without really all the fundamentals, worse than your average ML course online, and is also way too shallow if you are trying to learn any deeper.

  If you do want a pretty hardcore/thorough book, Elements of Statistical Learning (basically the bible) is always free! https://web.stanford.edu/~hastie/ElemStatLearn/

  For those who are interested, Ian Goodfellow has a good book on deep learning (https://github.com/janishar/mit-deep-learning-book-pdf)

  This might be a good complement who wants to dig deeper.

    It would probbaly be the better one to start with, a great book. There are also plently of high quality free courses around. Doing kaggle competitions (kaggle.com) while learning gives you necessary practice while engaging and community sharing approaches and idea. Combining one of better courses, book like one from Ian Goodfellow and doing kaggle competitions for practive is probably the fastest way to learn machine learning.

  I remember when they were saying everyone should learn machine learning. I always wonder if that lady cutting my hair or the guy cleaning my blocked drains are secretly tinkering in it at night. I don't ask questions so as not to look stupid.

  If you want to get started in Deep Learning then I can recommend the FastAI course

  (watch the Part1 videos).

  It will give you a good working knowledge to use Deep learning.

        I have heard that PyTorch is now more popular in the research community (almost 80%… up from 20% a few years ago) and that may well be reflected in the general DL community soon.
