I was looking for this exact model too, but don’t have tgg commercial :(

    • I can't remember how I got a commercial account. Here's a screenshot https://imgur.com/a/XfvFXWb

Edit: I think I got an account through my Union (Nurses Union)

I got access through my SunSuper account, check the orgs that provide access you may be eligible.

        • +1

Thanks for this tip, Sunsuper says 4-5 days to register for TGG access but they set me up in 5 minutes.

      • Hey Nimbin, could you screenshot the price on this TV please
        Ta!

    • They price matched the commercial price without the membership. TGG preston. But no stock ATM.

I bought the 55 inch version of this model last week from the GoodGuys. I read a heap of reviews prior and was a bit nervous because of all the negative reviews, specifically: slow start up, slow channel changing, bad menu interface, and crappy picture quality. I am happy to report all of it is bullshit and it starts in about 2 seconds ( my Sony Bravia was about the same but you couldn't change channels for maybe 20 seconds, the TCL can move on to anything after 2 seconds ). Channel changing is as good as the Bravia or better. The picture did need tweaking to get the skin tones right. The menu interface is as good / intuitive as the Bravia. I am replaying all my favourite Blue Ray movies as the experience is totally "new". The imagine is so much more detailed it feels like a different movie.

I love my TCL also, great picture and easy to use interface. I have a 75 inch C4US however the quick start has since stopped working. It worked for about 2 months out of the box but now even if the quick start option is turned on it takes about 40seconds to start up (not really an issue though IMO). Apparently it is a common issue with TCLs so I hope for your sake it continues to work for you.

      • +1

40 seconds is a long time…can even go to the toilet and back and probably beat the tv to start up.

        • +1

Compared to the quick start it is a significant time that's for sure however it's not often that I can't wait for the TV to turn on

      • Have you not logged a warranty call with TCL? Surely if its a spec and then it stops functioning you should be able to ask for assistance to get it fixed.

      • +1

You can easily fix the quick start by updating the firmware. I had the same problem just ring TCL and they will guide you through it.

      • I've had a good look through all the menus and can't find anywhere to switch on or off the quick start. As mine starts so quickly I wondered if it was set to "on" as a default. Anyway, as mentioned, couldn't find any reference to it.

I think a lot of the confusion about start-up times is that these are Android TV's. When you turn them on at the power point they have to boot up the OS - which takes a while. If you use the remote to just turn them off/on then they are quick (a couple of seconds), but every time you hard power them off (remove power) they have to boot the whole OS again.

TLDR, they're just like your phone, when you press the power button they turn straight on, but if you remove the battery/hard reset then they have to boot the OS.

  • Is there any way of looking at pricing without sign in.
I am able to get tgg commercial through EISS super, but have to email them item i want and then they send me the commercial price.

Would rather be able to browse rather than going back and forth through emails.

    • I don't believe there is unfortunately. I have always been directed to sign in before it let's me look at anything price wise.

  • It seems this TV is better then the P8MR?

CMR of 200 would that make it a 100hz native?

Hope this helps if U price match or beat

What is the quality of the panel like on these TCLs? I was looking at the P8S but in 55 inch. I just want it for normal TV, 4k netflix/movies and sport. I dont do any gaming. Whats the panel like in bright rooms and how does it handle the dark tones of movies?

I was waiting for a deal on the samsung ru8 or maybe a sony x80. Whats this panel like in comparison?

    Edit. I have a 1k budget.

    • I bought the 50" P8M the other day from JB Hifi. I'm using it as a computer monitor. As a monitor it's not very good, even when you manage to get it to do 444 subsampling it still looks dithered.

BUT, as a TV it looks good. The contrast and colour is good etc, just don't look at it too closely.

      • Thanks mate. Have you played any 4k stuff on it? Whats the motion, brightness and darks like?

        • I haven't. I'm working from home currently so this is almost entirely used for work. I did play a single player FPS on it the other day and the it didn't look very good - but I don't think I was getting very many frames through my RX460 at that 4k!

Brightness and blacks seem good - at least in the dim room that is my study. Blacks are pretty black, whites are fairly white. If I were only using it for media than I'd probably have no complaints. For text though, my 75" hisense R6 (loungeroom tv) looks better from <1m away.

        • The P8M is 50Hz refresh rate and the P8S is 100. The sales guy told me the P8S also has better colour.

          • @PKM: I also read the p8S had a better refresh rate. I may go and check one out in store.

Absolutely set on buying this TV but don't have commercial membership.

    • Happy to order one on your behalf, you'd just have to transfer me the money beforehand. Pm me if you're interested.

  • How does this compare to Hisense 65R8 apart from the $500 price difference?

  • We bought the C8 55" for $795 few months back from Buy Smarte, absolutely stunning TV! Definitely the cheapest QLED for under $1K. If I had the space I would have gone for the 65" model which happened to drop to $895 just 2 weeks after we purchased it. Excellent HDR when watching 4K movies, perfect black levels, crisp Onkyo sound, Android OS is swift, 3 year warranty, couldn't be any happier. I believe the P8S is a model below the C8 as it has 200 CMR as opposed to C8s 400. Despite the P8S having Dolby Vision and Atmos support, I think it should be better than the C8. I'm wondering why the C8 never got those features though. However, I'm running an Samsung HW-N950 soundbar with Atmos, it's obviously not lossless since the TV doesn't support eARC but it still sounds amazing. Looking forward to TCL's 2020 Vidrian Mini-LED model, reviews say the picture is almost as good as OLED.

    • the c8 is not qled..

      • It's the X series that is QLED right?

        • yup only x, and it has some bad glitch reviews, like every time you turn on the tv or swap from netflix to another source you need to turn off the soap oprah effect. it does not stay off it keeps turning it back on when you euther turn off and on the tv or when u swap from netflix to say freeview or amazon prime it keeps enabling it automatically its super annoying. search it up on google and youtube.

  • I've heard the TCL tvs aren't great for console gaming. Can anyone comment on that?

  • whats the easiest way to get TGG commercial (free ideally), i do not have a suncorp account

    • If you're a union member, ask your union of they offer it.

      • im not a union member, any other ways?

  • What is the commercial pricing on the smaller TCL 55" P8S? (Normal site has it for $795)

    • +1

      $643

      • Thanks for that!

      • can you check these prices please

        samsung ru7100 65"
        LG SM8600 65"
        samsung ru8000 65"
        samsung ru8000 82"

        • Cant find any of them sorry, closest for Samsung is the TU8000: 65” for $1,282, 75” $1,953, 82” $2,975. For LG there’s UN7300 65” $1,343, UN8100 75” $2,058.

          • @dubrex: damn so they dont offer all of their range to the commercial pricing section?
they have the Samsung ru7100 on their site just like all the other 4 i asked about.

            • @striker5950: Yeah it looks like they only offer a reduced range.

          • @dubrex: $1953 for the series 8 Samsung 75" seems decent. There's a bit of a gulf in the 75" market at the moment. If you don't want a cheap (~$1200) TCL, Hisense or LG, you've basically gotta pay $2200+ for the Samsung or Sony. The series 7 Samsung is reasonable at about $1600, but they are hard to find.

  • tried two stores could not get them to match the price, best was $950, stuff that considering the new tcl line c715 is coming which is about a %20 improvement extra 100 nits and quantum dot.

    • I got it for $817 at TGG Loganholme. I just told them so whats the deal with TGG commercial membership to start off the convo. I then proceed to say that this is $817 and that i dont have the membership and he just said I can do it at that price. Im still waiting for the TV to arrive tho, the guy said might take upto 2 weeks,

      • yeh lucky, the sydney stores are more tight or maybe the ones i went to, cbf doing this much to get a tv, ill wait for a proper deal

  • most likely to go with TCL P8S or C815 (in favour with my budget and good reviews noted in this post). Any thoughts on if its the right time to get it now or to wait for couple more weeks? first time post. cheers!

    • they are not even in the same price bracket, one is 817 if you can get it, one is more like 2000 when it rolls out.

  • I missed the deal 😐

Does anyone know if the expired or just temporary out of stock?

I will buy at this price moment if I have a chance
