  • This Vs mx500?

    • MX500 is faster but costs more

      • How much faster is the Mx500?

if I'm using it to externally boot macOS, but putting it through a USB 3.0.

Will it make a significant different which one i go with?

        • +2

It'll be the same. It's really only faster in benchmarks but general use it will be indistinguishable.

        • +1

If you are using usb 3.0 for both, I would imagine usb would still be the bottleneck? So same speed.

        • Alright thanks you guys!

  • They're getting snapped up pretty quick, wanted the blue m2 250gb but alas.

  • sounds like it's worth waiting for another P1 1Tb deal?

    • if you want to copy a file larger then 100Gb's with the P1 after like 30 seconds of copying at 1700mbps it slows down to 60mbps :).

i wouldn't touch the QLC non SD-ram hard drives with a stick.

      • -1

From my experience, both QVO and BX500 were more than okay. Speed was definitely faster than mechanical drives. Especially, I have never experienced performance hiccup with QVO even though it is DRAM-less and has QLC. My only concern is a life-span of those SSDs.

      • essentially I can't work out what should I do

I have a laptop with an nvme slot and 2.5 sata

system is running off a small 128gb nvme drive while I put in an old 240gb sata drive to add a bit of storage, I am running out however

so I could either get a 1tb nvme and run the system off that, throw out the 240 sata drive and make laptop lighter too

or I could leave system on 128 nvme and stick in a QVO terabyte into sata slot for raw storage, it's mostly reading anyway

        decisions decisions

        • Is the NVME a SATA or M.2? No brainer if it’s a M.2….you’ll get much higher R/W speeds.

Even if your NVME is a SATA, I’d probably stick with a larger NVME and remove both existing SSDs.

          • @[Deactivated]: Got your acronyms muddled up.

NVME cannot be SATA. It's the standard for accessing non-volatile memory over PCI Express.

M.2 (the form factor) can be used for NVME SSDs or SATA SSDs.

        • you are lucky, i discovered that my laptop has a sshd drive! i thought it had 2 drive slot. it was a sshd.

  • Can anyone confirm is M.2 faster than a standard SATA 2.5" drive? Thinking of a 2nd drive for my optiplex 7020. TIA

    • +5

Only if it's M.2 NVME Drive, this is the same speed as standard SSD

      • Ok. Thanks for your help :)

        • +1

Save that M2 slot for an NVMe drive in my opinion.

  • +2

Those were the days which I got BX500 240GB for just $36 delivered, now SSD are so expensive

    • Yeah why the bloody price hikes? I got a few at those prices too about 1 year ago… on all brands, not covid related or the $AU really, been happening for a few months at shyte prices….
