[XB1, SUBS] Red Dead Redemption 2 - Coming to Xbox Game Pass May 7th

2200

Greetings everyone, seems like an awesome addition coming to the Xbox Game pass :)

You read that title correctly, we’ve got some big news for you coming from the wild, wild (Pacific North) West.

Coming on May 7 to Xbox Game Pass for Console:‌ Red Dead Redemption 2.

Winner of over 175 Game of the Year Awards and recipient of over 250 perfect scores, Red Dead Redemption 2 is an epic tale of honor and loyalty at the dawn of the modern age.

America, 1899. Arthur Morgan and the Van der Linde gang are outlaws on the run. With federal agents and the best bounty hunters in the nation massing on their heels, the gang must rob, steal, and fight their way across the rugged heartland of America to survive. As deepening internal divisions threaten to tear the gang apart, Arthur must make a choice between his own ideals and loyalty to the gang who raised him.

Now featuring additional Story Mode content and a fully-featured Photo Mode, Red Dead Redemption 2 also includes free access to the shared living world of Red Dead Online, where players take on an array of roles to carve their own unique path on the frontier as they track wanted criminals as a Bounty Hunter, create a business as a Trader, unearth exotic treasures as a Collector or run an underground distillery as a Moonshiner and much more.

As always, enjoy :)

    Feel sad

    • For Arthur Morgan? lol

Nice. I got the physical copy at launch and then later got the digital ultimate edition. I played it for about an hour so far… 😬

    • +1

I pre ordered ultimate and I've gone as far as downloading it. How was the first hour?

      • +5

The first hour is a little lack luster. It definitely gets better though.

        • +5

+1 this comment. I played the first hour day of launch, realllllly wasn't big on it. Then about 2 months ago played the rest of the game in a matter of weeks and absolutely loved it. It's a slower paced gameplay that's for sure but there's just so many little quirks about it. Right up there as one of the best games of all time for mine.

    • LOL me too! I bought it digital on release and played a couple of hours. I probably need to restart it! Now its free on GamePass. Oh well!

  • +8

Damn for a split second I thought it would be PC too

    • This seems to cover PC Xbox game pass too - or am I being too hopeful?

      • I'm hoping its coming to PC too, but the title of the linked article is: "Coming Soon to Xbox Game Pass for Console: Red Dead Redemption 2"

        • +3

Only games on the Microsoft store go on gamepass afaik so yes unfortunately

  • Awesome! i traded this in awhile ago, so will be awesome to complete my play-through.

  • +1

Knew I did the right thing by selling it four months ago.

  • +12

Wow, that’s gotta be the biggest game they could secure for the service. It’s a masterpiece if you haven’t played it.

    • I'd say the Rockstar game it's replacing in GTA 5 is slightly bigger.

      • +4

Hard to compare but also hard to disagree. One is a single player masterpiece, the other is a money sink grind fest multiplayer (now, wasn't originally) rpg. GTA 5s campaign in my opinion was also a masterpiece.

I think securing RDR2 now, is higher profile than when they added GTA 5.

Both 10/10 single player games imo.

        • GTAV online is great if you have plenty of real world $ to spend, or licky enough to have modded an account on PS3 Xbox 360 and transferred over.

    • Big call.

Fallout 4 has just been taken off the list to make room for this.

  • +2

Looks like they are switching GTA5 for RDR2?

As one huge Rockstar game comes, though, another one goes. Grand Theft Auto 5, which is currently available on Game Pass for Xbox One, will be leaving on May 7

That's weird it wasn't even on there that long

    • *insert FFFFFFUUUUUUUU gif

    • +2

Booooooo - this is a downgrade in my opinion.
What hope to dad like us have of completing these huge games if they don't stay for at least a year?

      • -1

        Upvoted because I agree it's a downgrade.

Removed upvote because you can't manage to finish a 20 odd hour game (GTA V) in less than a year.

    • Nooooo… I literally just bought the physical copy of RDR2 and downloaded GTA V last week. Was planning on getting through them soon :’(

  • This will be great for anybody that wants to play a story mode that is in my opinion a masterpiece and it's gonna be even funnier for the people that play online

  • I got stuck on a mission in this game where I was supposed to look for treasure in a swamp and couldn’t find it. I ended up giving up.

    • You got eaten by the alligators too many times right?

    • +1

the game lets you skip checkpoints if you fail them 3 times in a row

      • I didn’t fail I was just stuck in an endless loop of walking around a swap. It got boring really quick.

  • !remindme

Thanks for the birthday present XGP

What ever happen to control coming?

  • +2

    50% great game, 50% filler.

But geez, the good half is DAMN good.

    • +1

      I'd say 75% great, 25% filler.

Its the only game where the side missions are memorable, eg. helping the newly widowed lady and teaching her to hunt, or rescuing the dog from the abusive owner.

      • Wow, big call if you have played Witcher 3?

Some of the best parts of that game are the side missions! If this is on that level I'm all in.

  • +2

Holy cow! At the risk of sounding like an Xbox fanboy, I can't believe all the great games in GP. That and 3 years worth of GPU for a song has effectively locked me into Xbox for the next gen.

  • damn, i just bought this from the last amazon sale for $39

  • +1

    LENNY!

    • +1

      "Those O'Driscoll Boys!"..

  • How many pages is it?

  • Great games, great price, but in OZB fashion any great way to get deals on Game Pass if you have already used upa free trial, or stack deals?

    • You can get the $1 GPU twice, I did.
I did my first $1 GPU and let it expire, then I stacked a couple of years of Xbox Live and added the $1 GPU again to get over 2 years of GPU

  • Nice - need something to move onto after I finish Hitman 2.

  • I really regret buying this game. Visually and world density wise it’s great but the actual storyline and how that interacts with the ‘open world’ is honestly one of the worst games I’ve ever played. So boring. This isn’t an open world game so if you reduce that expectation you can probably enjoy it.

Just my opinion though so YMMV.

    • +1

OMG.. I'm the total opposite. I have absolutely no interest in Wild West Genre of movies or anything. But the storyline in this game is so deep and many many times better than a lot of good movies / TV shows. Like everything Rockstar, there's so many easter eggs in the game that people are still exploring every inch of the map to find anything they missed.

      • +1

I haven't played it because I can't stand wild West genre of movies and anything also.

        • I'm the same too and didn't start on it for about 3 months after I bought it. But give it a chance and get past the first few missions.. The story is truly excellent and worthy of an Oscar if one was ever made for games category.

          • @bchliu: I agree that the story's great, but the gameplay was a massive let down for me. They chose polish over fluidity. You know a game isn't intuitive when they turn on snap on locking by default

            • @cille745: I can not stand wild west genre, and I played it on Pc, after I decided why not give it a go because I loved the trailers. The best $104 I have spent on gaming last year. For someone like me who completely dislikes wild west genre, I got absolutely blown away by what a phenomenal this game is. Absolutely stunning looks backed by an epic long story. Took me 130 hours to finish, and even then I have not finished each an everything in the game. To each to their own I guess, but I highly recommend this game. It is a 10/10 for me - a masterpiece.

  • Maybe the physical copies will sell a lot cheaper after this?

  • +1

I read (past tense) "Read" as "Red".

  • How long has GTA5 been listed on gamepass 2 months right? Must be a expensive game to rent for Microsoft.

  • Wow… certainly did not see this coming.

This must be the most expensive non first party game to release on Games Pass. I'm kicking myself for only paying for 18 months when that gold conversion deal was on last year.
Shoulda gone the max 3 years 😫

    • Yup. $300 or less for 3 and half years.
