[Steam] All Jackbox Party Games on Sale (35-50% off) this Weekend @ Steam

1170

I've been playing Jackbox Party Games for awhile now, and can easily recommend all of them, especially with them on sale this weekend.

The games are intended to be played in the same room, but during the lockdown our group of friends have been playing online using Discord (which is even better now with the new video option in channels).

  • I've been loving this on PlayStation all week. Awesome fun!

Might be slightly cheaper if you have a fee-free forex credit card and can buy directly https://jackboxgames.com/games/
    Using code REMOTEPLAY

Probably not worth the hassle for most folks. It will give you a steam code, you can't use any balance you have unless you buy from steam

Only thing I need to decide is whether or not to buy on PC or Xbox (have most other jackbox titles on the console)

States the following pretty clearly on their product page:

Available only in the United States! If you are located elsewhere, please go to the Steam store to purchase this code. You will not receive your code from us if you are located outside of the United States. We will have to refund your order.

      • Interesting, I guess you would have to pay using a US payment method or something. I wonder how they'd check. Not worth the hassle then.

        • I feel like you could get around the address part by using Auspost ShopMate to provide a US address, and I doubt that they'd actually send anything physically anyway. Maybe they'd check payment method, but VISA and Mastercard are global anyway right? Interesting….

          • @phota: Can confirm I just purchased through the online store, with code REMOTEPLAY, provided US address from ShopMate (free) and received valid steam codes in mail. Downloading now! :)

Most of the Jackbox games are actually a bit cheaper on Greenmangaming (plus you get Cashrewards). Except pack 3 and 6, which are out of stock.

    • I was about to post the same thing. I believe only #3 is cheaper on Steam.

  • How can you play on discord? Can you play PC vs Mac users too?

    • +10

Only one person needs to own/host the game. You can stream your screen/game over Discord which you can get on Mac as well. Other users join your channel to watch your stream and voice/video chat at the same time. I found the quality is much better than using Zoom/Webex.

      • +1 have been doing this a lot for remote house parties - really good

Do the older trivia versions hold up, or are they like playing old trivial pursuit where the facts get outdated?

    • +12

The first trivia murder party does have a lot of pop culture references which are very US centric. I found the 2nd one to be more general knowledge in nature which is why I think it's better.

      • +1

        Agree with this

      • +3

Trivia Murder Party 2 has an option for non-US questions which I think is a must.

  • I'm guessing none of these are very good for 2 player?

    • +2

Most of the mini games require at least 3 players. The only one that would be ok for 2 people is Trivia Murder Party.

      • +1

Bomb corp is pretty good 2 player

    • +1

Ideally you really want at least 4 or 5. I've had mates play with 3 and say it was very lacking compared to having 5 or 6.

  • +1

Can you play with random strangers? I'd have trouble finding one person to join in, but I love trivia

Stolen from a reddit thread. TL;DR: Buy Pack 3, then 5, then 4 or 6, then Drawful 2, then 2. Overall Pack Ranking: 3>5>2>6>4>1.

I personally only have pack 2 and have been playing quiplash every Friday night with co workers over Zoom.

    • +2

I can add some weight to this. Many of the original games in the first three box sets are still the best, and have just been relaunched in the later sets.

I've played most of the collection and Quiplash, Drawful (1&2) and Trivia murder party are the base games, then you might throw in something exotic (split the room, the robot rap battle (both box 5) etc) to mix things up.

I bought six a few weeks back and was disappointed, five is much better.

    • Fibbage is my favourite!

How do you play this over Zoom? Do everyone that wants to play need to have a laptop and have bought the game? I tried to find info about each of the games online but couldnt find much info.

The reddit link above is the best breakdown of the games I have come across so thank you for posting SnowDragon

I host a weekly Jackbox games night via Google Hangout. Only I need the games, then I present my screen for the rest to see.

They do need two devices each though, ideally a computer or laptop to watch the stream and a photo/tablet as their controller

      • Apart from the drawing games, it works acceptably well to have the stream in one window and a browser window to answer the prompts.

    • whoever has the game shares their screen in zoom - thats it

      • Apologies for the dumb question but we own a few of these packs on the PS network.. is there a way to screenshare to friends without a pc?

And it wouldn't make sense to purchase these pc ones as we wouldn't be able to play on the PS4 right?

        • Only the host needs to own the game, but they need to be able to share the screen

    • +1

How do you play this over Zoom?

Share screen whilst you're running the game.

Do everyone that wants to play need to have a laptop and have bought the game?

No, they just need a device and join via the code on screen.

Someone commented it's not as good on Zoom compared to Discord.

    • +1

Only one person needs to own the game.
That person will share the screen of the game.

Other people in the zoom meeting will see the screen in the meeting window and play on their phone as normal.

To do it efficiently each person needs 1 screen/device to see the game (desktop/laptop works well) and one screen/device to play the game (phone etc).

  • For those asking how to play online, the Jackbox site has a good how-to. Just note, only 1 person needs to own the game.

  • Pack 3 with 'Fakin' It' is the greatest game ever conceived. Probably will be pretty hard to play in iso tho.

    • I think the Push The Button game in jackbox 6 is basically that game but works well via streaming, from what I've read anyway

      • Played Pushed The Button for the first time lat night over Discord with mates. The game is designed to ruin friendships 😂

      • Oh nice I'll check it. $28 a bit steep for me tho.

  • If I was just to buy a few of their games separately what would be the best choices. I am thinking maybe - You Don't Know Jack (which number?), Fibbage (what is best version), Murder Party 2, ???????

    • Quiplash and drawful 2 are very good games. The murder party one is also good.

    • Drawful 2 is so solid. Easy for anyone to get, and then it's really fun, as well.

    • I would say YDKJ 2015 (JPP1) is better than YDKJ "Full Stream" (JPP5)
But 2015 is the old fashioned style 4 player only with ABXY controls and Full Stream is up to 8.

You can only buy Quiplash, Fibbage and Drawful separately and it's not really worth it compared to the bundle prices on sale.

  • Thanks OP.
    Bought the Quint pack.

Has anyone had success playing this through Zoom?

    • +1

From previous comments, yes. You can also use Discord.
