We, everyone in our household recently agreed to have a cautious approach for each of us get in and out of home - mostly focus on back home.
We have slightly different approach when going out. Some of us wear gloves all the way until get home and try to avoid touching anything when outside. I myself will bring a surgical mask, pocket sanitizer and wearing normal glasses when out. Time taken to arrange this usually very quick.
However, time taken is longer when back home. We usually have groceries and packs of food to unload. So we take shoes off outside the door, then if possible get someone to help release the groceries and other stuffs to our balcony. Also bring the shoes to the balcony. Immediately go to bathroom to thoroughly wash hand and remove the mask or glasses (if it is on) then wash face. Get change afterward.
Unload and sort the groceries and the food packs at the balcony and move them back in kitchen. The rest just leave it in the balcony for few hours with sun or leave it next day if at night to tidy up. Ideally wash the groceries right away if possible - usually fruits and vegetables.
We are happy with this arrangement at this stage but wonder how others doing during pandemic. I know some people doing even more cautious than us but also others suggest the habits is a bit over the top. Some people in share house mentioned they just don't bloody care.
I don't think wearing gloves outside is a good idea, it does nothing to stop the transfer of virus as far as I can see.
I don't think your actions are over the top, it's what doctors are recommending. Even if it is there's something to be said for the psychological effects of feeling "clean" inside.
