Good price, although likely only available in NSW

Anyone in Brisbane it's cheaper here. Also, the reviews of this freezer are mixed. Main complaints are that it isn't frost-free, and that it has only one basket. Extra baskets are costly, according to the reviewers. And a couple of people mentioned issues with opening the door (it gets stuck or something; takes about 15 minutes before you car re-open it).

    • It vacuumed once shut.

      • I've not run into that with the 140 litre version.

      isn't frost-free

      Instant don't buy for me.

      • Yup! Second that.

There is no such thing as a frost free chest freezer, but it is also why they are so energy efficient.

        • There are however chest-sized upright frost-free freezers.

    • +2

Of course any chest freezer will vacuum shut because once opened and shut warm air goes in and contract creating a vacuum.

        creating a vacuum.

Neat, do you use your newly created vacuums or just flog them on Gumtree?

  • not avail in BNE

    • Check this one. It's even cheaper.

      • Product Class: Factory Second

        • Oh! Didn't read the description for closely. That sucks then.

Because people in Antarctica need to keep stuff cold

    • dunno why you got negged there.. but thank you for posting this!

  • I bout the 140 litres version in march. Its OK, but it takes ages for non frozen food to freeze if uut is no adjacent to the side. It was a bit disturbing as items were not frozen up to 24 hours later.

Appliances online has really screwed me over on my TV service however. I am waiting. More than a week just to talk to someone to schedule a service call. It has been abysmal. Absolute worst non caring service.

  • Thanks just bought it, even though it’s not frost free.

I have the 140 litre little brother of this, the WCM1400WD. Bought it on a similar Appliance Online special two and a half years ago. I paid under $300 for it which I reckon was a bargain.

I use the freezer in my main fridge on a daily basis, and access the Westinghouse chest freezer on average maybe once a week. Sure, it isn't frost free but I have yest to defrost mine after more than 2 years; I open it so infrequently there isn't much moist air getting into it. Are any chest freezers frost free? Aren't they meant to be for long term storage of bulk purchases of discount items?

Yes the lid will vacuum down so you can't reopen it for 15 or 20 minutes - see my comment about accessing it on average once a week.

I read a report on the Westinghouse chest freezers and one of their advantages is low power usage. It was low enough to be irrelevant - less than $20 a year IIRC. Has already saved me its purchase price on specials I've been able to take advantage of without overloading the freezer in the main fridge and making item access frustrating there.

I’ve had this or similar model for 4+ years now. Am yet to defrost it and ice build up has been minimal. It is great on power as mentioned above.

    Chest Freezer

    Must make your nipples hard.

    • Give them a flick and watch them fly off

  • Thanks OP, got one for the next pandemic!

    It’s showing $10 cheaper, now $339

    • Cheers, $339 delivered. We were actually wanting one of these before the world ended and then they all disappeared!

  • doesnt seem to allow checkout now

  • When I bought mine power cord placement was on the side of freezer, and talking with a different retailer, other than white inner lining same as a chinese brand, as westinghouse was getting that co to build for them. You can compare the cheaper brand in store.

    • Which cheaper brand?

  • No longer available. Shame as I was in.
