And another great news story. Happy Easter, and stay safe :)
Fruit and vegetable heavyweight Simon George & Sons is giving away boxes of fresh produce to the newly unemployed. The Brisbane family-run wholesaling business, itself hard hit by coronavirus because it supplies the hospitality and tourism sectors, is delivering the free care packages to help “get through these crazy times together”. The boxes contain enough for a family of four and include bananas, potatoes, apples, carrots, tomatoes and lettuce, as well as eggs and orange juice. More than 100 have been delivered within 24 hours of launching the initiative, and Mr George said customers who didn’t need help themselves were passing boxes on to others.
“One big hotel just had to let go 30 kitchen staff, and they will all be getting care packages.” He said the initiative was a win win. “We’ve been almost wiped out ourselves, but it’s important for us to stay in touch with the people who’ve supported us over the years and to say thank you. “We have the time and the vehicles to deliver in Brisbane, Gold Coast, Noosa, Cairns, Townsville, Sydney and Melbourne, and when we come out the other side, we want people to remember we are still here.”
