Can Anyone Confirm if The "Layne Beachley Foundation" Website (Laynebeachleyfoundation.org.au) Is a Definite Scam?

Hi all,

Have been looking for Brooks Adrenaline GTS 20 on sale and came across the "Layne Beachley Foundation" website (laynebeachleyfoundation.org.au) where the shoes are at least $60 less than other sites. Site has prices in Australian dollars and no proper/specific contact, about us, shipping and T&C information.

I've put it down to it being too good to be true. Has anyone else come across the website and can confirm it is a definite scam?

Thanks

Cannot confirm definite scam but definitely recommend to avoid.

It's a standard shopify template, no ABN, contact us page has an clientservicehome.com e-mail which is a parked Czech site.

    Avoid.

    Contact Layne herself and ask.

    Definately maybe

Very strange….."Charity registration is revoked, effective 31 October 2019"

That’s not the name of her foundation (which seems to have lost its registered charity status). Most likely someone overtook the domain like they did with Harry and Meghan’s new foundation …

Not lost but voluntarily gave up.

Here's what Layne had to say:

It is with much regret but also a real sense of achievement that I record that the 2018/19 financial year is the last for the Layne Beachley Aim for the Stars Foundation. In late 2018, Founder Layne Beachley AO made the incredibly difficult decision to close the Foundation after 15 wonderful years of support for 500 amazing women.

      This is a scam.

Maybe not a scam, but you definitely can't use a .org.au just to sell stuff. The domain will be revoked and they will have to use a .com or .net or anything else instead.

The e-mail address is [email protected] - seems legit :-P

It doesn't even make sense for a foundation called Layne Beachley Foundation to sell sneakers…

    It's like Toyota selling handbags.

      • TODAY I LEARNED

      • Those are bags!! Not handbags!!

        • +1

The tote bag counts as a handbag.

@kerfuffle: My source is the same as yours.

Maybe Toyota will be the next Gucci handbag all the influencers will be carrying.

            • @Ughhh: Stranger things have happened, like us all being stuck inside at Easter to try flatten the curve ;)

  • Thanks all - I was adamant that this is a scam and hopefully it will help others seeking confirmation so as not to get duped when they're probably most vulnerable.

I sent a note to Layne in case she wasn't aware.

I just got word back from Layne's people. It's nothing to do with them and they didn't know about it. They're going to look into it.

The domain name was used by Layne when her foundation was running, and I guess that when they closed it, they just stopped renewing it. These people have seen their chance and bought the domain themselves.
