first thing that came to me mind, pubg! now i'm missing a frying pan~

    • +6

As an OzBargainer, surely you must've stocked up on a Lodge when they were on sale?

    • Or you will have stories to tell of your greatness with a frying pan and a muzzle…sry mask…

  • +2

The 3M Safety Professional Paint Respirator Medium 7512PA1 at $99 seems like the better deal.

    • +13

      The eyes man, the eyes.

      • +1

I'm sure you'll find some goggles for less than $120…

        • +3

My eyes! Ze goggles do nussing!

      • Try something like this.

        https://evaculife.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2018/04/evaculif…

Even comes with a built in tin foil hat to stop the corona virus reading your mind and controlling you.

"I'm on the can to the left. Choose the can to the left, choose the can to the left. Good good now drink from the can."

  • +13

    Get out of here stalker!

  • 6700 = Small
    6800 = Medium
    6900 = Large

    Actually they are different.

This is the 3M 68P71 so unsure - it does seem to be a P2 respirator. I would expect a full face to be a P3

    • Based on the cartridge from what I've read to make a full face to be P3 rated.

  • +17

You reckon you can go to the shops (or bank) wearing one of these?

    • +26

Just make sure you are wearing the same blue plastic coverings Corona medical staff wear. The coles/woolies queue in front of you will suddenly empty.

    • +2
    • +1

Won't scare people but might cop a lot of weird stares - that's what I've experienced when I toyed with my 7512PA1 the other week.

      • +1

Try walking into a Police Station in one of these. Holding a guitar too.

      • For maximum effect, combine with diving air tanks.

You can buy air hose kit to convert the mask's filters to compressed or otherwise piped air for <$100. They're very effective.

Ideal for bushfires, working in fumeous environments, cleaning out septic tanks, and all kinds of other jobs around the house.

    • My mum's been going to the shops wearing the version without the eye shield. Got a few snickers, but nobody seems too bothered.

      • +1

You should take a family photo of everyone wearing them to remember the good times

  • +13

Alright folks, it looks like we're now into Mad Max mode.

    • weve had over 30 years of prep so were good to go. it was only a matter of time….

      • +2

What did Franco Cozzo say when he stepped in gray paint?

        Foot-is-gray

  • Good to cleaning the toilet at home. Suspect it filters out odd smell too.

Serious, people, do not buy unless you actually need it.

In my recent visits to grocery run, I saw numerous gloves been dumped at the carpark… gloves wont do any justice, just wash hands often!

    • +13

gloves wont do any justice, just wash hands often!

So you don't wear gloves, you get back to your car, no where to wash your hands, so you get in your car and touch everything to drive home. You get home and touch your keys, you touch the doors…and then you finally get to the bathroom and wash your hands. Then you go back to your car to get the groceries (which are still contaminated because you and the person at the register touched them before washing your hands). Your hands are now dirty again.

Gloves wouldn't be needed if we had backpack sinks and soap - but we don't.

The only reasons the government is telling people they don't need masks and gloves is because there's a shortage and they don't want a panic.

      • +9

People tend to use it incorrectly.

To what you have commented, it will be no different to touching wallet/phone/shopping bag/items bought… the list goes on.

Supply is one thing. Not disposing the rubbish (used gloves) is another.

And whether gloves effective is also a separate topic.

Personally annoyed at used gloves getting dumped all over the carpark.

Also annoyed at people being OTT with it all.

      • Been thinking of getting one of these then proper hand wash in the boot:
        https://www.kaercher.com/au/home-garden/mobile-cleaning/port…

If it's gentle enough to wash a dog then should be aiight on me hands?

      • +10

Thats why you carry hand sanitiser with you or leave in the car

        • Yupe! First thing i do when i get into the car.

        • That's what most do. Before touching anything. Use a sanitiser

        • -2

I use hand sanitiser too. But it just takes missing a tiny spot of your hand by mistake when rubbing or not using enough.

      • +3

The only reasons the government is telling people they don't need masks and gloves is because there's a shortage and they don't want a panic.

        Well said

      • You're touching all of the groceries and the carry bags with your gloves anyway so they are contaminated whether you have gloves on or not. Are you going to sterilise each item as you take it out of the bag?

    • +1

Was at Prince Of Wales the other day (IT worker installing systems for the hospitals) and they had checkpoints at entrances to check up on people i.e. are you feverish etc. Funny thing was that the lady checking people told the couple in front of me not to wear the gloves they had on, with the reasoning that the virus "loves" the materiel and the gloves are more likely to help spread the virus while being ineffective in providing you protection.

      • +2

The reason health professionals advise against wearing gloves is because many people don't know how to use them against microbial contagion. They treat them like gardening gloves, not like they're being used against caustic material.

    • So they're ok for health workers but won't work for everyone else?

      • Yes the gloves only work on health workers hands…isn't that obvious :-)

  • +1

I don't have any painting that needs doing.

  • +3

"A fool and his money are soon parted." - assuming people buy this for COVID.

  • +2

These should be donated to front line health professionals that lack access to ppe

      • +6

You want the nurse who is overworked, underpaid and risking their life to be buying his or her own ppe? That seems reasonable.

    • +1

In standard, health professionals cannot use these respirators, since it has only one-side filter, only can prevent doctors getting virus. But it will infect others if doctor got infected.

      • It is actually used by some hospitals where a sterile field is not required (e.g. outside of operating theatre during routine care).

  • +2

I saw someone wearing one of these in the supermarket the other day in Leichardt. It was like an end of the world scenario.

  • If you want full personal protection, this is it. This forms a perfect seal around your face. Surgical masks and most disposable N95s are useless if you want to protect yourself since you have air coming in from the sides, top & bottom of the mask
You can also use this 3M full face mask for any reno jobs, harsh cleanups or when/if the next deadly virus (especially airborne) hits…..

    • +4

      most disposable N95s are useless

So I guess that is why medical personal use them and the public is discouraged from buying them ?

    • +1

There is no perfect seal. Needs to be fit tested as per ASNZS 1715 to determine if it gives an 'adequate seal'. Males need to be clean shaven at all times, same as a disposable.
Most of the filters from 3M are electrostatic type which are not so good.
Also this particular mask is often reproduced by factories so unless the seller is an authorised distributor the likelihood of being counterfeit is high.buyer beware

      • If you want best seal you need PAPR

        • Quite a broad comment. Would love for you to explain how so?

Considering a PAPR with a loose fitting head top gives less APF than a full face mask, in fact it gives the same APF as a half face piece.
Too much incorrect information being disseminated during this pandemic.

    • I've tried both surgical masks and n95 masks. The sealing difference between them is like night and day. N95 masks don't get the n95 or p2 rating if they don't give you a good seal (assuming you don't get a counterfeit and it is worn correctly).

    • How do you know which size fits you without trying?

  • +4

The filter comes with this is equivalent to P2, you need 3m 6035/6038 or 3m 2135/2138 for P3.
3m 60926 would also work, but too heavy and pricey

  • How do you disinfect these full face masks? Using disinfect wipes?

    • Not designed for healthcare use.

      • 3M actually advised the use of reusable respirators for healthcare use, you can find their technical bulletin regarding this topic here:

Also, decontamination process for 3M 6800 used by a hospital airway team in Australia:

    • 70% alcohol

  • Price increased to $271 ??

  • Finally I can feel safe to go buy toilet paper with this baby on!

  • Bought 30 facemasks at Daiso yesterday for $2.80. They're 99%bfe

    • +1

BFE 99% is tested down too 3.0 micron
N95/P2 is tested down too 0.3 micron

That is a large difference in filtering efficiency

  • +3

    I see 271.90, not 220.41 anymore

    • +1

      agree price, jacked.

  • +1

This would be great for healthcare workers I reckon; only if it had a way of easily disinfecting periodically.

  • My friend Jack is back

  • People who are wearing this type of mask now are either workers in polluted areas, health care workers, emergency workers or nut case.

    • +3

      Live action role players?

      • They are part of those nut cases XD

  • I was so close to buying a few versions of these during the bushfire…

    • +1

I bought the 3M 6800 & 6900 ones for the bushfires and they worked very well.

A little hard to breathe in at first. Took a while to get used to it. I spent about $750 on face masks for the family. Now in the event this contagion intensifies, I'll be pulling them back out. New filters last for approx. 3months

      • New filters last for approx. 3months

does the filter have indicators ? limited time based ? or usage based ?

        • +1

Based on usage and how often it is exposed to air. Also up to the user to determine if the filters are soiled.

After cleaning it is recommended to keep in an airtight container.

6800 mask is great for DIY asbestos removal too

  • Can I use specs with this mask?

    • +2

No, not really. You will need a pair of specs made using the 3M 6878 spectacle kit if you are to use specs with this mask. See following for details.

      https://www.3m.com.au/3M/en_AU/company-au/all-3m-products/~/…

      • So only half mask for me then?

        • The arms of your specs will prevent the facepiece from forming a tight seal and will prevent you from passing a fit test.

  • +1

Can this be worn inside a bank?

    • technically speaking, yes

  • Should we be leaving items like this for those that really need them?:

    https://www.msn.com/en-au/news/coronavirus/health-workers-go…

  • +1

Spot the ozbargainer at the shops

    • …yep. wearing a $270 mask and a pair of $5 skechers with pride :D

  • -3

For the love of god, stop buying shit like this guys. Leave it for people who have a genuine need for it.

    • +1

Actually for the average uninfected person, this is probably better to buy than disposable N95's imo. Medical professionals need N95 surgical masks because, when properly fitted, they protect both the wearer and the people around them. These resporators only filter incoming air and have a seperate unfiltered one way valve for exhaust. Good if youre not sick, doesn't do much if you are or could be potentially infected already. Hence why the N95's are essential for front like medicos, better protection from them getting infected, and in the case that thery are infected and dont know it yet, better protection from them unknowingly infecting others.

Bought the half face version of these for food manufacturing cause it was cheaper than buying a stack of disposables (stupid compliance regulations and price jacking), and taking the work environment into account the filters will last 6 months easy so made more sense. Damn uncomfortable though. Also i look like a tool when wearing it. On the plus side, i do sound like Bane…

      • Yeah that makes some sense, though it sounds like medical field is starting to improvise pretty drastically with regards to PPE… wouldn't be surprised to be seeing dust masks and paint/fume respirators like this being used

        • Yeah, sucks that they're so critically underequipped. I guess when you're dealing with the heightened risk of infection all day every day, anything at all is better than nothing.

        • That is already happening with GPs heading to Bunnings to pick up respirators.

  • -4

People better not start wearing this on the streets or they will get roundhouse kicked.

  • Such an overkill

  • I'd rather brave getting corona virus than wearing this ghastly thing in public.

The shame would kill me a lot faster lol

    • It hides your identity so there's no shame to be had.

  • Love to wear it in the super market.

  • Having been a blacksmith (apprentice). I can tell you these things are not comfortable to wear for long periods. Unless you need these. I wouldn't recommend you buy them to protect yourself from Covid-19. If you can wear these for more than an hour at a time. You are doing well. Please leave these for those who need them.
