Costco price also includes delivery, so let’s call that “free” too. Costco has stock in Australia. Going by the Whirlpool thread, a lot of Apple direct orders are shipping from China. You know what’s not real quick in the current world climate? Shipping from the other side of the world. Your points are valid, your neg vote isn’t.

U should have waited. My friend’s one arrived today (ordered 6th March 2020) and was the new 2020 version, despite getting his Beats Solo3 headphones within 2 days of ordering. And yes, it was thru the Apple AU EDU store and also eligible for ShopBack cashback.

My parents' ipad has been working fine for 5+ years - for browsing web, facetime, occasional photos and some minor apps. Battery life is decent, nothings cracked in its alloy case.
If somebody shows me a cheaper yet sturdy Android device that still gets updates after that many years, I'll be much obliged.
I appreciate the concern of my wallet that some of Apple opponents show, but as long as I don't need to get the newest device every two years (for the sake of having the newest), I'd rather stick with Apple's. It works out cheaper for me, not to mention I avoid the hassle of changing devices, transferring and adjusting my whole setup.
