Daily gizmo, this price is surprising as usually your "dealy deals" are not the cheapest out there, for a site that offered so much promise.. (daily gizmo… pretty cool!) i've been mostly let down by your deals! but had no where to vent my frustrations!

cant find anything cheaper than this, but i have seen simularly spec'ed (or better PCs cheaper) not samsungs though.

  • This a bargain?

    • It could be a bargain, considering there's free shipping and 2 freebies (notebook bag and mouse, although it's probably a very basic one)

But , considering that a Lenovo E320 with a Sandy Bridge CPU recently went for $390 not so long ago, this hardly seems like something worth investing (outdated CPU)

What an odd model choice to compare it to. The E320 is a sub-notebook. 13.3" and no optical drive. Sure, the CPU is different, but it's not really the biggest difference of that bunch.

You'd have to compare these to the E520 if the only thing you were going to bring up was the CPU. That said, the E520 in the deal you linked for $510 w/ 500GB USB HDD was indeed a great bargain… although unlikely to happen again since it was revealed the ability to apply that discount was an error.

Its an Arrandale, and only 10% slower than i3-330M.

      • Have a link for that or are you basing it on clock speed?

          garratt
comparing numbers doesnt mean diddly squat
also factoring power efficiency, heat, dedicated graphics, resell value, longevity and user experience.

        • +3

          Fury,

Its an arrandale, therefore it will have similar power efficiency and thermal performance to an i3 (actually its just a i3-330m without hyperthreading)

Resell value, dude its a 400 dollar lappy, same for the longevity and user experience. Its a 400 dollar lappy, decent performance, decent specs, nothing special.

      • Not sure what he's trying to compare, the Lenovo E320 does not even use an i3-330m…

        • +1

P6200 is the previous generation, but its far from outdated. I just used the i3-330m coz thats the first Arrendale i3 that came to mind. A sandy i3 is another 10% or so faster, but the P6200 is still fairly good considering its an entry level budget lappy.

Btw, if you want to compare everything to the E320, you will never buy anything again.

EDIT: To clarify, I was just pointing out that despite its Pentium branding, its still a recent CPU, and very capable to doing what a 400 lappy should be doing.

    • Samsung do it better. The CPU is a bit of a letdown though :s

The build quality of the E320 is actually a bit of a let down. Some WP'ers are commenting about the quality of the hinge on the lid, and the usability of the clickpad / touchpad.

I'm pretty pleased with it though, the 6:30 hr battery life, CPU performance, quick startup/shutdown times and the feel of the keyboard is impressive. PCWorld gave it a pretty good review

I don't think I can ever go back to using my old Compaq 515 or Toshiba C660 after using a Thinkpad keyboard!

  • Laptop are really so cheap now.

Pretty good deal. I got a similarly specced Gigabyte E1500 earlier this year for a bit over $400 incl delivery. For $399 and the bag, mouse, etc thrown in, you can't complain if you're looking for a budget 15.6".

Though, the recent Lenovo E320 I got for $420 still puts this to shame in terms of performance and portability :-P

  • It's a bit dated tech wise, no sandy bridge CPU, no USB 3.
I have played with a similar samsung and they are very slick, bang for your buck its a bargain, ideal for fakebook, introwebz, werd, solitare, 2 girls 1 …. nevermind.
