TLDR - it's a board game.

From BGG

With elegantly simple gameplay, Ticket to Ride can be learned in under 15 minutes. Players collect cards of various types of train cars they then use to claim railway routes in North America. The longer the routes, the more points they earn. Additional points come to those who fulfill Destination Tickets – goal cards that connect distant cities; and to the player who builds the longest continuous route.

"The rules are simple enough to write on a train ticket – each turn you either draw more cards, claim a route, or get additional Destination Tickets," says Ticket to Ride author, Alan R. Moon. "The tension comes from being forced to balance greed – adding more cards to your hand, and fear – losing a critical route to a competitor."

Ticket to Ride continues in the tradition of Days of Wonder's big format board games featuring high-quality illustrations and components including: an oversize board map of North America, 225 custom-molded train cars, 144 illustrated cards, and wooden scoring markers.

Since its introduction and numerous subsequent awards, Ticket to Ride has become the BoardGameGeek epitome of a "gateway game" — simple enough to be taught in a few minutes, and with enough action and tension to keep new players involved and in the game for the duration.

is this a genuine one or a fake copy?

No idea but price is cheap within the realms of plausibility and no mentions/attempts at passing off a fake.

The seller has feedback mentioning they sell fake Pokemon cards. I would steer clear if you're looking for a genuine copy.

ITT I learn that fake board game are thing.

I mean I shouldn't be surprised, just never thought about it.

    • +1

      Fake.

Some of the feedback for this seller suggests this might not be a legit copy. This game is regularly victim to counterfeit copies.

Have it, played it, not a fan.

I thought TTR Europe was a better implementation of the game

      • +1

        I agree.

I like the tunnels, bigger train cards (not everything needs to be Euro card size!) and everyone is dealt at least one 20 or more point destination card.

However, on the fence with the stations mechanics. Haven't gone back to the orignal TTR since TTR Europe.

      • Normal TTR is the most balanced albeit the most boring

    • What is your style of board game?

      • What are the styles? Genuine question.

        • Deck builders, miniatures, co-op, puzzle…

Lots of overlap and hair splitting but here is a generic list of categories.

      • My favourite board game is Sequence; cards, random, strategy, individual or teams.

sent from china - some comments of other stuff sold suggest copied

  • Great game, but would do some research to see if it's fake or not.

Apparently eBay Money Back Guarantee applies for this item/seller.

      • So a great chance to buy it, try it, if it's fake get your cash back and put it towards a real copy if you like it

      • How can I identify if this is a fake version or not then? Given it's the Melbourne (not Europe).

      • The tricky part its illegal to send back counterfeit item using Auspost.

Went searching for this game last year. Lot's of Ebay sellers selling it for around this price but from what I could see they were fake imports from china. I ended up purchasing from Amazon for $54. Great game. Well worth it.

    • I would definitely encourage not buying boardgames from Amazon. They intermingle their 'real' stock with the fakes. So even if you buy from Amazon itself, there is no guarantee you aren't getting a fake…

      https://www.amazonsellerslawyer.com/blog/amazon-commingled-i…

      • If I'm not mistaken, Amazon do not allow commingled stock for certain categories, especially those prone to counterfeiting. This includes Toys & Games which boardgames fall under https://sellercentral.amazon.com.au/gp/help/external/G200141…

        • Nice find @wangasm. That appears to be specific to Amazon Australia, so perhaps it is more safe when buying from amazon.com.au (vs amazon.com).

  • Seems to be $42.99 now… (incl. free standard shipping)

I'm in board game distribution, and that's well below what any retailer would pay for it. The game is now $89.95 SRP.

Amazon was selling it for less :S

      • +4

Amazon is known to engage in loss leading for a lot of their sales, they are big enough to do that.

        • Strange how loss leading even works online.

      • +1

Insane really. However, I have seen product sold below cost on Amazon. I think they have an algorithm that just beats the current best price.
Provided it comes from Amazon (as in, I'm not sure if they blend in stock with the same ASIN/SKU from all sellers), it's definitely legit stock from Amazon..

        • They do blend stock at Amazon. As such, I would recommend not buying any boardgames from Amazon.
