Credit Card Annual Fee Waiver - Covid19

Hi all,

I have recently signed up the frequent flyer credit card, but with the global situation I can't redeem the lounge, travel insurance or even buy flight tickets. I would like to know if it is reasonable to ask the bank to waive the annual fee considering it is a few hundreds dollars.

Should the bank waive annual fee?

    Hi all,

    I recently purchased a new car, due to some road works I am not able to travel on some streets, I would like to know whether it is reasonable to ask the dealership for my money back.

    Should the dealership return my money?

      No, it is reasonable.

      Those lounge access etc are considered the feature and benefits of the card. If you car is lacking some features you paid for. Wouldn't it be reasonable to ask the dealership to return you money as that is not what you paid for?

          Firstly, it is not the Chinese virus. The virus doesn't discriminate.

          The Frequent Flyer is in the name of the card, with the frequent flyer functions not available it doesn't do what it suppose to from other products. Yes, the card is itself still can be used but paying the high annual fee for it without the features it is no different from any other credit card with zero annual fee.

          Plus, you pay interest to use the credit. Annual fee is to get the features.

              @Gamer Dad Reviews: Except that the Spanish flu didn't originate in Spain?
              Myth =busted

                @timthetoolman: The fact that "Spanish" flu was misnamed does not mean that the commonly accepted and well known convention of naming Viruses according to their geographic origin is a "myth". By trying to assert that this well-known and universally acknowledged fact is a "myth", I think we can all tell what sort faith you are acting in.

                  @Gamer Dad Reviews: It wasn't misnamed, that's the name of it.
                  You were just wrong in your assumption.

                  The myth reference was not literal, but more from the TV show where they prove someone's myth incorrect.

                  • @timthetoolman: @timthetoolman - you are being ridiculous. My assumption is not wrong, it is self-evident. What do you think the Hendra virus was named after? The brisbane suburb of Hendra. What do you think the Zika virus was named after? The Zika forest in Uganda. What about Ross-River fever? What about West-Nile? What about Japanese Encephalitis? What about the hundreds of other examples? For people to follow a commonly used nomenclature in this case is neither racist or discriminatory, and only a horrible person would imply that it is.

                    • @Gamer Dad Reviews: TF is wrong with you? I merely told you that the Spanish flue didn't start in Spain.

                        @timthetoolman: Ah, the motte-and-bailey defence.
                        Whether or not the Spanish flu started in Spain or not is irrelevant.
                        The current coronavirus did start in China.
                        Wuhan to be precise.
                        Therefore to call it the "China Virus" or the "Wuhan Virus" is, according to long-standing conventions, both normal and appropriate.
                        Leftists try to politicise everything to score points.
                        One of the reasons why the outbreak in Northern Italy was so bad was because the left-wing Mayor of Florence started a "hug a Chinese" person campaign on Feb 1 - to combat the "racism" that was being caused by public reaction to news reports of the virus.
                        Well, it quickly turned out that such vapid virtue-signalling was not only buffoonish and air-headed, it was also deadly.
                        Italy now has the most coronavirus death victims in the world.
                        And the blame for that, while partly on the Chinese Communist Party for brutally repressing the truth for 2 months, is also on the the leftist governments in Italy who chose to virtue-signal their anti-racism creds instead of taking the situation seriously when they had a chance.

            @fullmetal:

            The Frequent Flyer is in the name of the card,

            I see, it's 'on the card'.

            If I have Qantas Health Insurance, would that then mean I can get my premiums back because Qantas is no longer flying?

            Plus, you pay interest to use the credit.

            You pay interest?

            Annual fee is to get the features.

            The Annual fee is to get the Credit Card with all it encompasses.

            @fullmetal: Fixed it for you:

            The PRIMARY function of a Frequent Flyer Credit Card is a Credit Card.

            The Chinese Covid-19 Virus does not invalidate the fact that it is still a credit card and you can still use it to buy 99%.9% of things not travel related.

            The frequent flyer aspect of the card is a side feature yes, but its reduced benefit does not make the whole card useless.

            It is unreasonable to want a waiver because I can't lounge.

    It’s not reasonable but, the bank may offer to refund part of the annual fee as a “gesture of goodwill”.

  • +6

    just cancel the card if you feel that you wont use it

  • Just call your bank, explain your case nicely, they may offer a full or partial refund out of goodwill.

  • I would like to know if it is reasonable to ask the bank to waive the annual fee

    Always reasonable to ask. Doesn't mean they will.

    Anyone here get any luck with Amex?

    • would also like to know

  • You can ask. Worst they say is ‘no’…

  • I don't see the situation lasting 12…. do you

  • You can use the points to buy things as well

  • Just tried with AMEX and it was a firm NO.

  • Hard to justify by $395 explorer at the moment with no travel….i guess i still have 10 months to go, so heres hoping! No idea what to do with all my points now too (about 250k)- guess ill wait it out!
