I've tried their coffee and it's pretty good!

    • Yep their cafe on flinders lane is probably the best in melb after patricia/brother baba

      • Haven't had a chance to go to Patricia yet as it doesn't open on weekends but I must say I was pretty disappointed with Brother Baba Budan, coffee was meh - it's just Seven Seeds but the service was pretty average and that was on a very quiet Saturday morning.

Must try out Dukes one day.

  • Hi - interested but not sure how to buy? The website shows full price: https://www.dukescoffee.com.au/shop/dukes-espresso-blend/

[edit]I see the link got updated now, ordering …

  • Website doesn't work. Crashes at chekout. Payment option grayed out

  • Any deal on Single Origin Filter range?

    • +1

$28/250g for a washed Gesha from Panama
By no means is this objectively cheap - esp not from an ozbargain perspective. but if you're looking for SO filter, maybe you're the demographic that'll bite. That's a fantastic price for (what should be) a fantastic coffee.

  • express post is $13.53 extra

    • Express Post is standard you should just see the "Shipping Included" option at checkout :)

    • +5

It's pronunciation "expresso" thank you very much

  • Thanks ordered. By partner loves your coffee. One of the best.

  • Thanks, ordered!

  • Damn! Just ordered 1kg from five senses. This is a great deal

  • +1

…. and the website is DOWN!

  • bought. Reasonable price for 1kg without needing to leave the house. I hope the roaster can stay viable through the next 2-5 months of uncertain times.

  • +2

Does "aged 14 days" mean this is contract roast espresso blend that you couldn't get out to cafes, and now that it's. 7-14 days post-roast it's past it's peak?

    • +1

Coffee needs to degas for about a week after roast anyway. Freezing coffee is also fine so it's definitely safe to order coffee that fall in a 7-14 day window. Especially with this quality at this price.

      • +2

Freezing coffee is questionable. I vacuum seal bags first.

        • +1

I was a skeptic but after taking the plunge and trying myself I was sold. Sometimes I freeze as long as a month. It comes out like fresh. Much better than letting a 1kg bag lose its punch halfway through. Also, I use a vacuum sealer before doing so.

Check out sprometheus' video about it. He did one not too long ago.

          • @itevenhasawatermark: James hoffman put one out about freezing beans just recently too

          • +1

@itevenhasawatermark: yep, that's what I meant (vacuum seal then freeze), definitely better than letting the bag sit for a few weeks. I even do that with beans I buy from Aldi, since they seem to still be fresh when I open the bag.

the fact that they have this heavily discounted promotion during such an economically tumultuous time indicates that this is definitely the case - it's probably coffee roasted for wholesale purposes that isn't getting used. Perhaps they roasted too much, or they have already completed the sale, and are trying to resell it at wholesale prices on behalf of the buyer.
however it's only 7-14 days post roast, and it's definitely not past its peak. I wouldn't really use espresso before 7 days tbh. And I would be happy using this for as long as 60 days post roast, maybe more. Roasters do a fantastic job these days, and as long as you keep it sealed in a cool, dry area, it will keep fine. do NOT put it in the fridge. You can use the freezer if you know what you're doing (needs to be vacuum packed).
I don't think you'll have any trouble getting through 1kg of coffee whilst you (and possibly your family) is/are in self-isolation. Stop complaining about a bargain, and appreciate that you'll be helping an industry which has been hit really hard by the COVID-19 crisis.

      • +1

Fantastic video by James Hoffmann - well renowned coffee professional - on whether or not you should freeze coffee. Just dropped yesterday. He has some really good videos (so does Chris Baca) talking about the coffee community (globally) and how they're coping (or not coping) while all of their clientele are being locked down. He will continue to post informative and relevant content related to the COVID-19 crisis and the coffee industry, with a focus on supporting local, and home-brewing videos (since people are now brewing at home). All his content is fantastic, and accurate.

        • I personally think James is a bit of a hack. All the products he speaks highly of are ones he's been given, and just because he adds a disclaimer at the start doesn't mean he's unbiased. I also find myself disagreeing with a lot of his methods but that's mainly due to the subjective nature of coffee.

          • +1

@konichiwa: Incorrect. He buys all his products via patreon subscriptions and then regifted them to the patreon community via a lottery.

            • @ts13: That's the idea but unfortunately his vids ALSO consist of products he has been given or of products made by people he's friends with. He will mention this at the start of the video but he also invariably recommends his viewers to buy it. But no, he certainly does not buy all his products.

              • @konichiwa: I’d disagree with you here. Most of his videos are patreon backed. Very rarely does he use something that’s not patreon backed (although I will concede that he does sometimes) and if he does, he makes the conflict very clear. On top of that, I would say that he is a particularly difficult person to please, and he rarely leaves a glowing reviews. I find his reviews objective and useful, and he points out very obvious flaws or oversights that the average person would not.
What else can you do except for disclose a conflict? He’s one of the biggest celebrities in the specialty coffee world. The guy is gonna have friends.

For example, his video on Corona said - look, it would be great if I got my X,000 subscribers to buy coffee from me. But don’t. Buy it locally. Support small businesses and roasters your area. The guy cares, and imo, no one is doing a better job of conveying quality, presentable information to the masses atm.

      • Dukes have at least two busy inner city cafes.. so this was likely roasted for their own use

      • That is very true during this coronavirus crisis my family (myself/dad/brother) finished 1kg of beans in 10days.

  • Website has crashed…

  • Yep getting "Error establishing a database connection"

  • It takes me about 2 weeks or more to finish 250g bag of beans. How do people drink 500g or 1kg before the beans go stale?

Hey Guys, being an annoying UXer and tester. Turns out when you reach that screen and its greyed out, just use the tab key until you reach the checkout button. press enter and BAM. Nailed it ;)

    • Thank you so much! May you never have a bad coffee again :)

      • Why thank you kind sir ahahha :D

  • 503 server down… rip

edit: finally got through using paypal

  • +1

Got there in the end… now all i need is a coffee machine :)

  • Finally got through. Used paypal checkout which loaded fine, just spam refresh on each screen until it loads when paypal sends you back to the site for final confirmation. don't forget to enter phone number at the confirmation screen after paypal.

  • The price is still $58 shipping to Hobart. Do I have to enter a promo code or something?
Put the wrong item in the cart, it should be the one ending with aged 14 days

  • Took ages - but also finally got it :|

  • Took ages, but got one. Using PayPal checkout seemed to be the key :)

  • Order finally placed. Be patient. Keep hitting refresh eventually it will reload the payment screen. If parts are blacked out. Refresh and refresh again until you see it reloading. May have to do this several times.

  • I have a Toddy cold brew system. Which grind should I choose?

    • +1

Let me google this for you!

      (23 secs later)

      Q. How should I grind my coffee beans?
Use the coarsest grind setting for best results. If you purchase beans from a coffee shop, ask your barista to grind for French press.

It’s French press in your case!

  • pretty damn cheap with delivery, planted a tree for good measure

    • Well done! Did the same.
