OBD II Car Head Up Display $49.99 + Shipping @ Kogan

40

I have been looking for a decent head up display for a bit. But haven't found much reliable information as yet.
I had included this piece on my watch list as previously it was priced at 59 $ so got notification today regarding price drop to 49.99.
Thank you

I have had the exactly same. Never liked it, it also lasted a few months during summer and then refused to even power up

    • Thanks for sharing experience.
How is the warranty thing they say is 1 year?

      • +4

Tbh I never even returned it. Was kind of happy when it died and chucked it in the bin

      • Kogan warranty in my experience is ridiculous, need lot of patience and plenty of follow-ups to get any outcome

  • We have 2 of these and they are great. I bought one and was happy enough with it to buy a second for my partners car.
Definitely need to instal the glass reflector otherwise sunnies block most of the info.

Main annoying things are it has problems with stop start cars at lights where it turns off with engine and makes a warning sound when you accelerate hard.

    • Thanks for sharing exp @ruddj ..how long have you been using it for?

      • Paid $49 in June 2018

Cheaper to buy through their Ebay store of Dick Smith https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/OBD-II-Car-Head-Up-Display/19246…

    • The things sold are quite generic and haven't got any specific brands so hard to compare how they are different and fare compared to each other.

      • +1

Dick Smith is now run by Kogan, so will probably be the same item.

Not heads-up displays and not cheap but check out scangauge and ultra-gauge.

Are these even legal? I would think a copper would want to give me a ticket

    • Of course they are legal. Why wouldn't they be? They are becoming commonplace in many cars, even 'lower-end' ones.

  • If you don't need so many things on the screen at once you can get cheaper ones off eBay for about $25-30. I have bought 3 different ones before.
The main thing for me is monitoring speed. It's handy having it up in front rather than looking down between the steering wheel.

    • @edrift I am interested in speed only ..do you have any specific recommendations

      • I've used this one for a couple of years now:
        https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/352913036753

Looks like the Kogan HUD is available for about $30ish on eBay too.

        • And you have been happy with it?

          • @super-zero: Yep. Occasionally it craps it self and won't read the speed (stuck reading voltage) so then you need to unplug and plug it back in.

  • Do these turn off completely when the car is off…?

I have had OBDII scanners connected previously which have drained the battery when the car was off.. (especially the bluetooth ones)..

    • I have same problem. It doesn't turn off automatically. Mine is not bluetooth but the wired OBD2

So I rarely use it, unless it is long motorway trip

    • Yes you can set the voltage in which they turn on and off.
So generally set them to 13.x V so they don't drain your battery

      • If you read the manual the Start Reference Voltage is in range of 110-150 and set as default value of 132

Where do you define this as 13V ?

  • Would this be able to tell me the saturation/level of my DPF?

    • Unlikely. You need a scan tool for that

    • Has been done by some people using custom commands on their Scangauge2, mentioned by me above. To set DPF% up though you need to know certain values. Some background info on doing that here. Handy units if you want to know what's happening in your engine.

  • will this connect to a Toyota Kluger ?

    • +1

      Yes
