Chargeback from Closed Credit Card

I foolishly booked flight with an ANZ Adventures card through a questionable online travel agent and later on have cancelled the card. In the current climate, I feel like the airline will cancel the flight and the travel agent will give back some of the money (minus fees) or none of it, who knows.

I am curious as to whether it would be possible to lodge a chargeback if I eventually wanted to do that? Maybe if I sign up as a customer again with ANZ? I guess I am not expecting anything and understand that it may not be possible because I terminated my relationship with ANZ by cancelling the card.

Yes you can still do a chargeback, the problem is how you will receive the funds, more than likely they will send you a cheque.

      send you a cheque.

What is this cheque thing you speak of?

        Capital is Prague.

    • Or they can put the card into a positive balance, reactivate internet banking and you just transfer the money.

    • So chargeback is possible even if I am not a customer of their's?

the problem is how you will receive the funds

I think this is not much of a problem. I was told the account will go in to credit and then they can work out some way to send the money.

  • Have you called the travel agent? That is what ANZ will tell you to do before they do a charge back

They are proper dodgy so aren't responding to emails or phone.

Umm.. maybe it's possible that they're fielding stacks of calls and emails in this nice and relaxing climate that we're all in right now.

  • Not quite a chargeback situation I was in, but if they refund to an inactive card, you might just have to chase up ANZ.

When I cancelled my AMEX and got some AMEX credits and Paypal refunds, the account just went into positive balance. I had to contact them and they transferred the money over to my selected bank account. I still had access to my account via the AMEX website though and just chatted to their online customer rep. You may have to go into a branch or call them up ANZ if you can't talk to them online.
