Thanks to @doweyy for original Supercheap post, using code AFTERPAY for 30% off on purchases over $200, JVC KMW760BT double DIN touch screen head unit with Android Auto and apple Carplay that was originally $420, comes down to $294.

Cheapest Android Auto/apple Carplay head unit from a big brand I've seen for a while, if not all time?

iDatalink Maestro compatible for those with steering wheel controls in their car, usually not found in lower line/cheaper/older models.

Front and rear camera inputs, only one USB input unfortunately.

Don't forget to add Aerpro APP8KE4 harness from head unit to ISO for $12.59 and go to Aerpro website to look up your car for ISO to your vehicle (also all $12.59 after discount). You will need both of these for installation.

    Great post mate.

I used 8% off supercheap gift cards (suncorp rewards) to bring it down ~$270, and then another couple bucks off with cashback.

Deal ends midnight 20th March today

That time has been and gone. It actually ends 23:59 AEST tonight.

  • Great post! Anybody knows if this easy to install by yourself (for one with limited knowledge in electronics)? How much would it cost to have it installed in the shop? Cheers.

    • +2

Head units ar easy to install, with those aerpro adapters it's literally plug and play, it you don't use those you'll need to follow a wiring diagram but still very straightforward. Hardest part is probably taking apart the dash (depending on your vehicle)

      • I was always wondering if that easy or hard part. You made my day, I haven taken out the factory unit once. Few years ago Roadside assistance changed car battery and radio gets locked, he asked me to get the code from Ford dealer,I called them and wasn't successful. They were asking to book appointment, which was few weeks away. In desperation I saw few YouTube videos, once removed there was a sticker which had the security code.

      • I thought the same but I have an obscure car, a Kia Rondo and the parts listed on Aerpro's website were incorrect and half not needed for the install. The main harness connector was a completely different size, I ended up needing to solder everything in, only needed the factory camera retention kit but I feel like that was just an overpriced resistor. More common cars will have a better time.

Also a consideration if you're going for wireless Apple CarPlay you need to have a speed sensor cable running into the head unit for it to function and steering wheel controls can get a bit messy (and with these big touch screens it's almost a necessity so you don't crash trying to concentrate on what you're touching on the screen).

  • Is there anyway to check whether it's compatible with 2011 cx7?

    • +7

Yes it will go in the CX-7. You'll need a fascia and antenna adapter. You have the option of relocating the reverse camera image from the trip computer screen to the head unit with a cam retention kit. If you have a Bose system, you'll also need an amp retention kit. You won't need a Steering Wheel Control interface, the JVC has it built-in.

See here and here for parts listings.

      • Awesome legend response.

        Thank again

  • +1

Wish I could plus plus your post, not only for the deal, the other useful information too

    • Thanks! I feel really guilty because I can never find anything to contribute to OzB and when I do, they're garbage posts if you look at my history lol I was more excited about sharing this post than actually buying it!

      • :-) thats the spirit, keep it up

  • +5

Don't be scared by the JVC brand (which is also Kenwood), they have crappy Chinese rebranded TVs at Big W but their car audio stuff is great, I've got a JVC KW-M950BW in my car and love it.

  • When you connect an Android phone via USB does it automatically switch screens to Android Auto?

Does it have dual USB connectivity?

    • I can't answer your first enquiry, bur the second one, as stated in the post, only has one USB.

      • Thanks - I actually meant to type dual bluetooth connectivity!

  • Will factory steering wheel controls work with this?

    • Built-in steering wheel control adaptor & reversing camera input (camera sold separately)

  • +1

The T harness for my Nissan is a $45 special order :/

    Awesome post though op, thanks

  • Can someone please advise what difference there is between this unit and say the more expensive Kenwood DDX919WS?

Apart from wireless connectivity anything else? Like does it have a better screen or better features?

    • +2

The DDX919WS has capacitive touch screen, 720p resolution, Hi-Res audio, disc player, gesture control, more inputs/outputs, Toyota 200mm size, Kenwood dashcam control.

Chalk and cheese basically. To be expected as there's a big price difference.

      • I realise now the WS is for most modern Toyotas.

In terms of standard double din size for an older Toyota, can you suggest a decent one with capacitative screen?

I don't need wireless, dash cam control etc.

        • +5

Kenwood are due to release their 2020 range any day now. This should drive the price down of discontinued models like the DDX9019DABS (disc) and DMX8019DABS (mechless), both very decent units with capacitive screens. The non-wireless AA/ACP units are resistive screens.

          Other units with capacitive screens;

          Sony XAV-AX5000 $524.30 with code

          JVC KWM-745DBT $419.30 with code

I don't recommend Pioneer, they have been poor quality for a number of years now.

@PinzVidz: Thank you so much, I'll check these out :)

I think I want this for my Honda Jazz 2009. Just don't know my way around cars.

    • You've got it!

Have a look at youtube/forums and some good googling and you'll be fine.

Ask a friend who is knowledgeabe as well, it's a common first thing to modify in your car. Most car people are happy to help someone getting their toes wet.

  • Delivery unavailable :-(

been looking for something like this, but think i might hold out for a DAB+ radio, (and built in GPS would be better than having to use screenshare on the phone)

would love to get something like this, but it looks like my car double din slot is slightly smaller than standard, and something like this most likely wouldn't fit.(maybe a bit of sanding of the edges of the unit could help)

    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Double-Din-Android-9-0-Car-GPS-S…

    • your ebay unit looks better in terms of specs and for not much more… so tempted…but not sure if I should buy brand names locally for the warranty/reliability.

    • +1

Don't touch any of the eBay no-name/unknown brand name Chinese shitters. They're rubbish.

      • Ive bought two before, one still going strong, (single din with 7 inch touch screen, dvd player, gps etc) - sold the other one with the car, but from memory, i think it was starting to have a few issues.

there are some Chinese units better than other units though. have to read the fine print.

        id risk it again.

    • Read reviews on these, this is what I will be installing. Has GPS inbuilt and has inputs for DAB+ and more.

      https://www.amazon.com.au/ATOTO-A6Y2721PRB-Android-Navigatio…

      • android 6 though…

and also i don't believe it has a DAB built in, many of them have support for DAB, but you need to buy an external dongle. you can see its supported by USB on this device.

  • the head unit has 2 USB ports btw, looks like a great unit, 4v pre-outs. Not a fan of resistive touch screens but oh well.

    • +4

Actually I think I've decided against this. Just looked at resistive vs capacitave comparison, it would be so annoying having resistive screen.

      • Thanks for commenting. This is exactly what I was wondering.

      • Capacitive head units cost a lot so something to consider if you really want a capacitive head unit. I've tried a few at audio stores and yeah it's actually quite annoying to use but I guess you'll normally won't be touching it much so not so bad I guess. I tend to just use voice commands to skip tracks nowadays.

  • Hi Op, May I ask after connected via Aerpro APP8KE4 and the iso to car harness, does it can achieve steering wheel control on my 2013 Corolla hatch? Or still need another adapter for steering wheel control specifically for the car?

    • +2

SWC's in a ZRE-182R Corolla are in the factory loom 28 pin plug. If you've fitted a JVC or Kenwood, they have built-in SWC capability, use this chart to determine the wires to solder/insulate to.

  • Reckon this will fit in a 2009-2013 Mazda 3 (with the right harness)?

  • Not available for delivery?

  • Delivery unavailable and pretty much no stock in WA.

  • Could i fit this in a 2015 corolla sedan?

    • +3

Yes. You'll need a fascia, antenna adapter, ISOs and reverse camera retention kit (if it has factory reverse camera). See here and here for suitable parts.

  • Anyone knows if it can fit in a Nissan Xtrail 2015?

    • Can't see why not. I don't touch Nissans with a 100 foot barge pole, so I can't recommend specific parts to suit, but here's the list of parts available here and here.

  • Front and rear camera inputs:
I wonder if this means it has 2 camera inputs, and whether one of the cameras can be used to view the side-mirror mounted lane watch camera on the Honda HR-V when indicating left?

    • +1

I don't work with Honda, so I can't answer the question. There is this kit available though…

      • Thanks buddy. Do you know if the Android Auto on this unit has the new 2019 GUI?

        • +1

The GUI is pulled from the phone, if AA is updated to the latest version on the phone it will display it on the HU accordingly.

          • @PinzVidz: Thanks again. This video shows the unit retrieving vehicle operating parameters from a Volkswagen. Do you know if this can be easily setup in other vehicles?

            • @Ranagade: JVC Kenwood make specific units for various manufacturers in the US and Europe. That model is designed to work with VAG vehicles. They're not sold here.

  • Thanks OP for the post. Just FYI, I got a call from the store to advise it was the ex-display model that I would be getting. She went on to say this will be the case with all stores (maybe only QLD?) as its a special to run out the model. YMMV

    • I found out in store, decided to go with it anyway

  • +2

Picked up one in their last sale - was very reluctant about going back to JVC after my last head unit (approx. 5 years ago) was mediocre at best.
This has been brilliant - sound quality is great, screen feels nearly capacitive to the touch thanks to a nice smooth coating, and it's done exactly what I wanted which was to give me Android Auto to avoid the $1k fine they've introduced in Qld.

Much better audio grunt and quality than my previous Pioneer AVH-285BT (which is only a few years old)

  • Disclaimer for those wanting to get a harness to easily DIY, you will need to buy the Kenwood model harness not the JVC model. Also, for Android Auto and Apple carplay, wired connection is required, so just make sure you're happy to plug your phone in each time if that's important to you

  • Would this fit a 2016 Subaru Forester?

  • No stock south of brisbane river to the border

    • Yeah I got the last one in Loganholme unfortunately

  • My Nissan has side cameras for parking - anyone know if this unit will connect to these? Looks like just rear and front cameras from what I can see from the specs. Cant find anything online..

  • well i would buy one but none in SA

  • Anyone knows if it can fit in a Volkswagen Golf GTI mk6 2013 ?

  • Does anyone know the difference between Aerpro APP8KE4 and APP8KE6 harness? Op suggests APP8KE4 while Aerpro site suggests APP8KE6. Both are for Kenwood but APP8KE4 specifically mentions JVC (which is a Kenwood brand for car audio anyway). Looking to install this on a 2006 Corolla.

  • Would something like this fit in a 2011 Mazda 3. Seems like there is noo room for it?

    • Yes, I had the same question earlier. You need a harness to slide it in.

  • +1

    Got one. Thanks OP

  • Got the unit today. Obviously ex display and big scratch on the screen. They do that quite often with online orders lol Time to return it

    • Yeah I got mine as ex display as well, but thankfully no scratch

  • Still annoyed I missed out on this…
