Could be an oversight, it happens. What did they say when you reported it?

  • +8

TBH It's probably still fine to use. The ethanol content is a bit low though.

    • 60%+ is recommended. Maybe close enough for government work.

Most viruses aren't bothered by alcohol (only kills bacteria), we got lucky with one.

    Better than nothing.

Of all the things to worry about right now…

    Only expired 1.5 years.

I once had gastrolyte-equivalent effervescent tablet that was 10 years expired. Beat that!

p.s. tablet completely failed to fizz. Had to manually crush the tablet to get it to dissolve. It didn't have much taste at all.

p.p.s. I'm still alive from the experience. 100% not recommended. Tasted bland.

      did it work?

      • +1

Not sure. What would you consider as "worked"?

It failed to fizz. It tasted bland (supposed to be orange). I did drink the whole thing, I sincerely don't know why I did it.

I didn't turn into some mutant with superpowers so it definitely didn't work.

They probably bought it for staff to use, but staff never used it so it sat on the shelf. Now they're desperately digging through all the cupboards they can, in order to find hand sanitiser for staff to use, so in turn they don't have to close down and stand down the staff.

  • It's not going to kill you, just wont be effective killing off germs.

    • +2

So might indirectly kill you and/or others :p

    • wouldnt it still have alcohol in there

      • +1

alcohol would have evaporated long time ago

        • +1

Depends on the seal. You can tell as it gets much thicker.

    She'll be right Mate

    solution - bring your own

    oh wait………

  • 2 year shelf life is odd, I've got some with a 7 year shelf life according to the dates. It would probably work fine though you really have no way of knowing. If that's all I had, I'd be using it over using nothing.

Unless hand sanitizer has at least 60% alcohol content, it's a waste your time. People are being swindled during this pandemic

  • Be grateful. almost impossible to get at the moment.

  • ffs - really ?

You post on a forum about expired sanitiser - so what ?

    • Am i who?

  • +2

People who have eaten ration pack from the military are laughing like, ha only 1.5 years expired, weak.

  • Its from 2018.. that would mean it would be actually safer to use.. no risk of the virus..

P.s. The world has changed, no one gives a sh*t about the small stuff anymore.

I thought older the alcohol, the better it is!

    • Especially the 15 yo single malt!

      • -1

No tissue roll? Wash your butt with 15 y.o malt the Indian style.

It will be better than nothing, particularly as you cant get it at the moment.

Soap and water is best where possible, so lather up.
The water and rubbing of hands breaks down the proteins and agents that bind the virus together and destroy it.
SARS-CoV-2 is what's known as an "envelope virus", which means it's relatively easy to kill compared to some other viruses, Professor McLaws said.

Coronavirus particles are surrounded by a fatty outer later (made up of lipid molecules) called an envelope,
which falls apart on contact with soap.

If you don't like it, just don't use it. Bring your own

  • Hopefully they're not eating it.

  • This is what will probably happen with all the hand santiser (and food, and toilet paper) that everyone has panic bought at the moment. Sit in a cupboard for years to expire only to be brought out when the next pandemic hits…

  • Company screws up, and provides expired hand sanitiser to staff members (at no charge).
Rather than lodge a proper complaint to a senior manager of the company, the OP decides to post a thread on OzBargain.

    Boo hoo hoo!

    • You think Manager doesn't know this? lol.

      • What outcome are you seeking by making a thread on OzBargain? This is not whingepool.

  • FYI You need to report this topic if you want mods to look at it

    • Just wondering why suddenly OP requested this topic deleted…

      Boss found it?
