Unreal headset I got mine for $349+ 3 year extended warranty for an extra $50 @ JB-Hi-Fi in early December (Version 4). Never had an issue, only silly thing is you need to download the Astro command centre through the windows app store (I downloaded off their website and it would always play up and ask me to repair it).

To mention in the audio output on my pc it has Astro A50 headset, Astro A50 game and Astro A50 voice. For some reason only the updated settings work on voice output, but it is out of this world.

  • I have this for about 2 years now and its the BEST headset I could find. Really awesome. Only thing I would have liked to see is a bluetooth option so I connect this to everything everywhere lol. Astro had a beta receiver (not a dock) but can't seem to find this anywhere. In quality, this thing is amazing.

I had this headset and it is a POS.

I actually sent it back for warranty because the sound quality was just so bad for an expensive headset. Received a new unit and it was just as bad when they just basically said yeah the sound isn't amazing.

Anyway I lived with it and it eventually fell apart.

Granted this was the earlier model of the a50 but still.

    • Might be because virtual surround depends on the shape of the users ears and algorithms don't work for all ears.

There are many different algorithms so some will usually work assuming you have somewhat normal ears. If you use PC you can find one that works using the method below.

    • Curious. Was this on PC?

  • PC users can use any virtual surround they want more or less, including Dolby Atmos for Headphones, by using HeSuVi and Equalizer APO.

If you have a PC with TOSlink in, and your recording device has "Listen to" tab in properties, then you can use the PC soundcard to mix virtual surround from 5.1 from a console instead of a dedicated mixer like the Astro.

  • Is this better than connecting a sony mx 1000xm3 to the PC play single player? how is the virtual surround?

      Is this better

Yes because Bluetooth headphones have lag. If the Sony's have wired connection then they might be better.

See my post above to use any virtual surround you want including Dolby Atmos for Headphones which is the algorithm that this device uses.

Bear in mind that not all algorithms wok for all people because of ear shape but usually many will work for people.

not to sure what the quality is like on the Sony, I had a G933 Logitech for 3 years and it finally died. I got the Astro A50 and it blew me away, I was playing PUBG with my mate on the weekend- I heard the airdrop plane a good 5 or 6 seconds before my mate on his Razer headset.

FPS wise its good, can hear people crawling etc footsteps so good in PUBG, Battlefield etc. Ive even plugged it into my PS4 as it is way better than my Sony Surround sound (which I thought was the ducks nuts until I got these).

  • 2 weeks to late.. just got ps platnium headset

    • Always he way.

  • What can you guys recommend for a wired headset around $100? Looking at the razer Kraken $103, steelseries arctis 5 $108, or astro A10 $68, or a hyperx cloud.

Id probably go Steelseries. Go and watch some videos on YouTube about the headsets you are looking for. That make hello a lot in making the correct choice

  • These almost never come down in price but its an investment for what I claim the best gaming headset Ive owned. Cheers op

No optical out on the Series X, so this won't work for that console.

  • +1

Steelseries arctis 7 are heaps better

    • As someone who went from the older A50 to the Arctic’s 7 I agree.

    • What makes it better for you?

      • +1

Price was almost half the strap on the headset the mic positioning
