Netgear EX6110 AC1200 Wi-Fi Range Extender $98 @ Officeworks

50

I was doing a little googling and noticed that Officeworks had the Netgear EX6110 AC1200 Dual Band Wi-Fi Range Extender, priced $1 more than the lower-end equivalent: “ Netgear AC750 WiFi Range Extender EX3110” which was going for $97.

Since it was a huge price match, $129 > $98 I called JBHI-FI ahead and spoke to a manager who gave it the all clear. Was super stunned as much as I was. Honoured it and happy days.

  • Thanks for the thorough research and links to proof on this one!

    • Most welcome. I sat in the car park after I bought it to get it out before they wise up to the error :)

Probably prefer to save up for a mesh system like Netgear Orbi rather than getting extenders. I’ve seen RBK50 here on sale sub $300.

Yeh for sure. Big price difference with the mesh range opposed to the extenders, which was the deal factor for me. Mesh would be really ideal, but I’ll go an extender over a repeater any day.

But the incorrect price tagging pushed it well over the line, I saw it whilst researching this afternoon and even if I go mesh down the line.. can’t beat a pricing error. I only need it to take the load off some of the outside security cameras. I’ve been watching the signal quality drop and drop every time some new device is connected permanently. Not a HUGE drop. But enough to annoy me when viewing the cameras remotely.

There are cheap mesh routers from Tenda and TP-Link.

  • how does an extender differ from having a wifi accesspoint that you just plug into using smart wiring from an ethernet cable?

I have smart wiring in my house, but get really poor signal upstairs, and trying to find a way to improve it. So many different terminologies!

A wireless extender gives you more wireless coverage but your speed takes a hit and is much slower.

A wireless access point gives you more wireless coverage and you get closer to full speed.

Ubiquiti wireless access points are what you should be looking at.

I thought the more Access Points there are the slower the speed? Doesn’t it half with every access point? Thanks.

        • +2

No. AP's have an Ethernet link to the router therefore you get full speed (or close to it). Repeaters and extenders result in half speed.

        • No not with wireless access points. Your talking about wireless extenders.

      • so how does ubiquiti work with my existing wifi router? Do i just plug into the smart wiring ethernet port using the ubiquiti WAP and it'll start broadcasting a signal that works as wifi upstairs? Thanks

        • +1

Yeah plug it in and configure it. Check that the Ubiquiti access point comes with a PoE injector or buy a PoE network switch.

As others have suggested, a cheap mesh wifi system like the Tenda Nova MW-3 is a much better option. The 3 node kit is often on sale for under $100. Alternatively, if you can run an Ethernet cable from your internet router to a central location a single Ubiquiti Unifi AP is usually enough for an average sized house.

  • Could you please me if this one can use same SID not extended like other ones :( thanks

  • I bought one this morning and am looking to return it as it didn’t extend as far as I expected.

  • I ended up exchanging it and price matching Umart TP-Link RE450 which they have for $99
