Not sure if this is new or not - but this is the cheapest place in Aus I've found for some casual mobile broadband that would suit iPad users. Not as cheap as their $1/mo for 50mb - but a good price for 500mb.
TPG Mobile Broadband - $5/Mo for 500MB (+ $20 Deposit, + $20 SIM Fee)

I still have their $0 500MB sim card from Harvey Norman waiting to see when I need it to activate it.
Do you have details of this - was this a limited time offer?

If you are lucky may be you can still find it at some HN because I still saw it not long ago.
Got two about a week ago. Each one lasts about 20 days.
The SIM will expire next April.
Good price also - I'll check these out. However Optus charges per MB, TPG charges per 100kb…
are u sure google, facebook are free with this optus $5 rev up? reading the term and condition, it seems those pages are counted on the 500 MB allowance.

tpg's $1 cap is much better
where is this $1 cap?
at least put a link?http://www.tpg.com.au/mobile/plans.html
Took me a grand total of 12 seconds to find, TPG only have 1 mobile page..
well it's not exactly a cap is it?
Not that I'm taking out on youI'm just saying lwzdew is not correct.
you only get 50mb if you're not with TPG
and I'm leaving TPG for Telstra as TPG can only provide 50kb/s download speed now (used to be 700kb/s
tpg's $1 cap is much better
No its not a cap, it's actually a pay as you go plan.
Anyway, If you want to download $500 MB on that plan, the cost will be ~$13 (50MB free, then 450MB at $0.0275/MB). If your a TPG broadband customer it would cost you ~$10 (ie 150MB free).
Certainly $5 for 500mb isn't mind blowing, but it seems the best that your likely to get for that price point for a standalone service.
Big plus from me. I was looking at 3-400mb plan for my android tablet for under $10 and you found it.BTW $1 cap is ok but you get 50mb of data.hmm..
Problem with TPG is congestion fixed no. of ports, not as bad as Dodo but still very slow, you'd be better off going with Optus directly interms of capacity/speed.
So even though this is on the Optus network you don't get the same speed as an Optus direct customer is that correct???? Do Optus allocate a certain amount of bandwidth to TPG?
Spot on, optus direct will have better pings and speeds. Its been proven by many blogs and Whirlpool forums is your best tool at listening on all the cons and pros… ;)
This is not a great deal to get posted to the front page.. Optus have almost the same deal. With three if you sign up for 12 months you get 700 MB for $4.00
Do you have details of this deal? Remember Three are now 'Vodafone'
Exactly, and Three/Voda coverage is very poor. not sure about TPG.
I do not recommend Three or Voda.Three and Voda are a company together, however their networks are not the same. Three uses Telstra's network. I believe they will be integrated to Voda soon. But for the time being, I have 3 and its download speeds are pretty good.
1st Month Minimum Charges

Mobile Broadband Go 5GB -$64.99 -$114.98
Mobile Broadband Go 9GB -$74.99 -$124.98Really? minimum charge for Sim only?
I wish liveconnected would come out with a MBB plan like this.
no deal :-(
I love tethering with my amaysim unlimited but even though I have a great optus signal the speeds im getting isn't quick enough for Skype. Does TPG mobile broadband have fast enough connection speeds for Skype anyone know?
Seems like an alright deal, saw this yesterday when I was looking at mobile broadband plans. the $45 fee sucks though, but then again TPG charge in 100KB blocks.
Pennytel have 3GBs of data for $13.88 or 1GB of data for $8.88 and charge in 1KB blocks. They use the Vodafone network, but don't know what their customer service is like.
Be very careful…
If TPG's mobile broadband is as sketchy as its ADSL2+ has been of late, I would not sign up with them in a month of Sundays. Dropouts every 5 minutes or so, lousy (and patronising) feedback from their 'service' personnel (srsly… "Power cycle your modem…" "Do you have a filter? …" - yeah, you're gonna get away with that malakies when the thing has been perfect for 14 months and EVERYONE is experiencing dropouts).
Either TPG is doing some major infrastructure upgrade without bothering to inform its clients (which would be bad enough) OR it's in more strife than the early settlers.
Either way, we are looking for a new provider for ADSL2+ and if we depart we will never touch anything labelled 'TPG' even if it's free.
Where are you located? I've not had any problems with them at all lately.
so how does this work? It doesnt come with calls… do I then get myself a $15 plan with TPG and pay $5 on top so total of $20 (Calls + internet)??
Sorry mate… Optus Prepaid $5 for 500MB recharge is better. You don't need to pay $20 for the SIM and you don't need the $20 deposit. The $40 startup cost from TPG is a bit stiff.

You also get some free youTube, Google, Facebook usage with Optus' $5 deal. I haven't checked the TPG one.. probably the same.
