Hello,
Does anyone have any inputs on buying kids acoustic guitar?
My son is 9 years old and picked up for guitar ensemble at school.
I looked around and does not find much value for money options other than JBHifi or at catch.

They recommended Valencia 3/4 Acoustic
What's the budget? Jb is average. If a local music shop is about the same, I would go there. If you are confident, then second hand is where the best deals are. Some people start but lose interest. Those guitars are basically as new. The most important initial thing to check is the size. Someone bought a guitar from me for a kid and I think they didn't know you can get 3/4 sized guitars.
Yes I read that 3/4 sized guitar would be apt for my 9 year old son. Looking for Valencia 3/4 Acoustic at the moment.
I've seen some very very affordable ones in ALDI. Have no idea on their quality. My personal opinion is if they're just starting out and not sure if they'll stick with it, I'm happy to go the cheap route.
OTOH, what @hyaspty is spot on. Make sure it's a good fit for your child. Even if they will obviously outgrow it, learning to an appropriate size guitar is so much more comfortable.
Steel strung guitars are hard on the fingers for beginners. Recommend a nylon strung guitar.
My son is almost 11 years old and his guitar teacher has recently told us he needs to go up from a 3/4 to full size guitar now as 3/4 size is too small for him (but this means strings will be further apart and he'll have to stretch more with his fingers … which will make it a bit more difficult for him at first).
Edit to add acoustic guitar=steel strung, classical guitar=nylon strung.
Thanks it helps, i have narrowed down to VALENCIA VCxxx series which comes pre-fitted with nylon stings.
Speak to the guitar teacher, school based programs in S.A. usually offer instrument hire. This would be a better option as you can change instrument sizes as your child grows. Plus you are not stuck with an instrument if your child decides to give up playing. Once you know if your child is really into the guitar, then you can buy, again with advice from the teacher.
Acoustic or classical? There's a difference.
By value for money, how much are you expecting to spend? Obviously the more you spend, the better the quality
Yamaha c40, best cheap beginner guitar, plenty 2nd hand
Does your son's teacher/tutor have any suggestions?
