Going to the USA, where do I get USD? Yes, I have ING and Citibank cards without fees, and low forex rate, but I still want to bring some cash, say USD500 at least. Anyone know a place with a good rate?

    Find a Forex place in a Chinese area. Bankstown, Chinatown/Haymarket, Eastwood(I think), Chatswood all have forex places with good rates in Sydney.

    Just google and compare online prices, travelex arent too bad.
    Youre probably asking in the wrong place though, I reckon most ING Everyday and Citibank Plus people just go an ATM at the airport on arrival and only ever carry the same amount of cash on us as we would at home.

    Get cash out with your ING card from an ATM in the airport when you arrive?

    I recommend going to traveloz, they have locations everywhere (a quick google search should tell you the nearest one). Before going in I would visit their website and ask them to match it to that rate since the online rates tend to be better. Enjoy your trip! :)

    That's a tonne of cash to bring to the USA, last few trips I've been on (2+ weeks) I don't think I've gone through maybe $20 of cash - credit cards are accepted almost everywhere. Certainly bring some with you for peace of mind, but $500 is tonnes, and you'll probably find yourself rushing to spend it at the end of your trip, or suffer more forex charges changing it back to AUD.

    Take a hundred in small notes for tipping, for everything else just use a Credit Card.

    If you have an AMEX card, you can get foreign currency that you pick up from Aus Post

    i think they only issue foreign currency through the world health organisation now.

    depending on friends you could try this - put a facebook post up saying you'd like to swap aussie $$ with $$US. some friend would happily contact you to clear their spare. market rate means you both win
