Flea Market Turntable with Speakers $35 + Delivery ($0 C&C /In-Store) @ JB Hi-Fi

60

$35 for the Flea Market turntable with speakers. $75 for the portable model.

I saw them at South Warf.

Probably really crap quality but might be ok for a few $2 records from your local op shop.

tl;dr: yes cheap turntables ruin records.

The deal is also on some of the pro-ject and audio technica turntables. IMHO, you're better off spending $400-600 on a nice entry level turntable from a reputable manufacturer if you want to get into vinyl. Vinyls are nice to listen to especially with nice gear. You do you though, and enjoy the experience.

But $35 seems more suitable for the $2 records I find at op shops and markets.

Nothing like a $35 turntable to make that $2 mono Beatles pressing of Sgt. Peppers really shine! 👌🏻

Or get a second hand one from gumtree or similar for $20 and don't blow your money on something ridiculously overpriced costing $400+, so long as it uses quality stylus it doesn't really matter much. The Optimus LAB-1100 comes to mind and can usually be had very cheaply and uses the Audio Technica ATN3600 Stylus

      • I agree. Plenty of good 2nd hand turntables out there.

Mind you, you’ll need an amp, speakers etc. I guess that’s why these el cheapo “all in ones” exist.

With Flea Market stuff you get what you pay for. I find them to be rebranded Chinese junk, But I'm not going to bag them out since I brought quite a few of their USB fans to put behind my entertainment unit to redirect air flow. Not bad for $10ish each at JBHifi and no need to wait for weeks/months from aliexpress.

Are the fans silent? I've been thinking about doing this…

      • +1

The metal caged ones are silent, the $20 plastic hand held one with built in battery can be dodgy and not recommended even though they can swivel which then starts to make more noise as the base swivel motor gives out if you leave it perm on for a year.

Every 6 months or so it does start to make noises if you place them at a odd angle but all you need to do is take it apart and firmly push the fan back into the motor.

Haha, awesome - thanks for the tip. I might grab a couple and steal your idea.

          • @lasterato: These are great to plug into back of consoles in the back USB ports aimed up or away (don't aim into the built in air fans) from PS4 or Xbox to help redir air and keep the consoles not sounding like a jet engine taking off! worked for me and long gaming sessions.

I also have a few sucking air out of my amp and TV.

  • So are you saying I shouldn't play my mint Dark side of the moon album on this

    • You shouldn't have put mints on it in the first plave

Audio technica lt-ap60 is a decent inexpensive turntable when on sale. I think Akai also make some decent ones around $200 on sale.

The one posted here is not worth buying unless you enjoy frustration, see the reviews.

If you can't afford a decent turntable, you can't afford to listen to your music on vinyl.

This garbage will ruin your vinyl. Don't buy it.
